Equate UA-4000WM 4000 Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor amzn.to/2KgJ0TA This is the version that I bought and review in the video. EDIT UPDATE: My primary provider never took my blood pressure on bare skin so I did not know that was the preferred method until helpful viewers told me that in the comments. Also, my primary provider asked me questions during my reading and I now know the patient is to be still and quiet. Now that I insist on bare skin readings and silence, my blood pressure readings in my physicians' offices are far more normal.
Thanks for your review. Just some tips....You should never place the cuff over clothing. It will make your readings all over the place. Always do it on a bare arm. Other factors that help make the readings more accurate is never take it within the first hour of wakening. Wait 30 minutes after coffee with caffeine. Empty your bladder before taking it or your readings will be high. Make sure your elbow is at heart level and supported; if your arm is above your heart level the readings will be low; if the arm is below heart level the readings will be higher. Always sit in a chair with your back supported and your feet flat on the floor. Rest in the chair 3-5 minutes before taking it and don't move or talk. Trust me! lol. I've had to do a lot of trial and error and research on this. Also, be aware that many nurses at the doctor fail to take BP measurements like they are trained to do it. Do some research yourself. Hope this helps you get more accurate readings.
@Richard - a friend who's a longtime nurse told me he made a thorough study of blood pressure measurement. What he told me matches your results exactly. Thanks for sharing this!
You are 100% incorrect. Do NOT measure your BP after drinking coffee. Coffee is a stimulant and speeds up the heart rate for hours. Docs will always tell ya to measure your BP in the morning after u wake up BUT before eating/drinking anything.
I have the same monitor and it is pretty reliable. I've had mine 2 years now and I would suggest getting rechargeable batteries if you plan on using it regularly. I am on treatment so I monitor my BP pretty consistently. Good video for this product.
It is best. I learned that from comments here. My primary provider never took mine on bare skin so I wasn't aware of that. My primary provider also talked to me the entire time. Now, I have them be quiet and take on my bare skin. My reading are now normal.
you can NOT use rechargeable batteries. They have to be ALKALINE batteries. The company that manufactures these recommends batteries with tight tolerances such as Duracell or Energizer only
Dr. Kim Townsel: Thank you for such an excellent how-to video. I was absolutely so confused as to how to get the proper readings. You are the only person who showed a closeup of what I should be doing!! .. Thank you so very much!! .. I finally got my reading!! .. God Bless You Always, CC 🥰
I had ordered same one last week and you were the only one on RU-vid demoing this model. Thank you! Strange how they all give you different readings each time you take your blood pressure? I usually get my best reading when I think of really boring stuff, like watching the MyPillow guy on TV.
My readings are quite varied. Like you, I have learned to think calming thoughts before the readings which seems to result in lower readings. Now when I feel triggered by events, I use that technique to help avoid distress. Thank you for watching and leaving helpful comments!
I just got the same monitor thanks you pointed out a few things I missed like the alignment button and the caution bars on the left side. According to the quick manual 'tips' at the same time every day, no exercise eating or smoking 30 minutes before measurement should also not place the armband over clothing or below tightly rolled-up shirt sleeve. Cheers :)
TY! I missed it by using over my clothing. After a viewer pointed that out to me earlier, I told a medical technician that she wasn't taking mine accurately! 🙃
Thank you for the information, I just got one a few weeks ago and was wondering how to used it because every time I use it to take my blood pressure the reading is 104/75.
I just looked over my instructions and don't see anything about yellow. I recently installed new batteries in mine; the batteries lasted over a year and I take my blood pressure three times each morning! When I replaced the battery, all of my previous settings were gone. When I have time, I will create a new video of my machine. You may have a newer model than the one I have.
It’s the bars at the side. One is green. One yellow. One red. I think (not sure) that the green range is 120. I was 121 and instead of the bar blinking (not flashing yellow 😬) in green it blinked in yellow b cause I was one point over.
Kim thank you for doing this video. It helped me greatly. It's a nice little machine which I was not using correctly. Positioning the cuff correctly, which you show very well, is the key to getting consistent readings.
I usually take two or three readings each morning. Make sure the cuff if tight. My readings at the doctor's office were much higher because staff was having me talk during readings. I have learned to be quiet and still before and during readings.
From my instructions: 1. When the device is off, press and hold the < button. 2. Data is cleared when the M symbol blinks. 3. The device turns off automatically.
thanks kim i have been using a wrist monitor and i dont trust it. your pressure looks like mine , iam going to try this one i trust the reading after your demo. by the way your a cutie
Thanks i just bought exactly the sane im on bp medication, our blood pressure readings are exactly pretty much the same lol , up and down, sometimes high sometimes average lol I guess we’re good lol thans for the video
Was just wondering what kind of symptoms you have when your blood pressure is high? I always get super hot and lightheaded when mine is high, was just wondering if maybe you had similar symptoms? Also great video! I just bought the same monitor about a week ago and I really like it
Just picked up the same one testing and comparing to my wrist monitor . Both readings are drastically different I'll need more test just hope I can narrow it down to trusting one over the other.
The blinking heart on the left indicates the monitor is taking a reading. The two symbols below the heart are the battery life indicator and the p.m. or a.m. for the time.
According to my instructions that were included in the box: A dark heart flashes while the measurements are being taken. Be still. A light heart flashes when an irregular heartbeat is detected, maybe due to shaking or shivering. Retake and be still.
I'm sure this monitor and my blood pressure is high on left arm and 20 points lower on the right. 155/95 left 138/87 right How do you calibrate this monitor?? I think these readings are off.
Not sure how to calibrate it. I generally take my blood pressure three times in one sitting and compare them. I find that the third reading is generally lower, likely because I have been sitting still longer.
I'm use this monitor and my blood pressure is high on left arm and 20 points lower on the right. 155/95 left 138/87 right How do you calibrate this monitor?? Does anyone know? I think these readings are totally off, then I get anxious and makes it worse for me.
Still reading high? Make sure to use on bare skin. Don't eat or drink right before you take the reading. Avoid moving or talking while the machine is reading. Let us know.
My instructions state to Clear Data: 1. When the device is off, press and hold the dark blue triangle button. (Mine is on the far left.) 2. Data is cleared when the M (M in a circle/box) symbol blinks. 3. The device turns off automatically.
The bar is an AHA Classification Indicator. The bottom (green on mine) indicates normal. The yellow on mine is elevated blood pressure. The red is hypertension stage 1 at the bottom of the red and stage 2 at the top of the red. Great question!
Go to 3:23 and pause the video to see the instructions on how to set the date and time. I checked mine. On mine, I press the center button. First press looks like it gives the year flashing. Second press gives the month flashing. Third press gives the date flashing. Fourth press gives the hour flashing and has an AM or a PM to the left. Press the button on the left (mine has a triangle on it) until you get the hour and AM or PM desired. Hope this helps!
I can slide the flattened cuff in the bag and then put the narrow/shorter end of the device into the bag. It's a tight fit but the drawstring will contain all of the unit without disassembly.
Nice monitor Kim. I'm in the market for one because I have high blood pressure. I've also looked at the "Dr. Kea" machine, they were rated pretty high and have backlit display. I also have to get a blood glucose monitor for diabetes. Anyway, thanks for the great review and this will be one of the machines I'll be considering because it has what I need.
Recibi ese equipo como un regalo de mis hijos en Venezuela , el equipo no me ha dado problemas con su medición pero lo único malo es q no trae conexcion cable usb y solo funciona con baterías.. .
"I received this equipment as a gift from my children in Venezuela, the equipment has not given me problems with its measurement but the only bad thing is that it does not come with a USB cable connection and it only works with batteries.. ." Agree! USB charging would be an improvement. ¡Aceptar! La carga USB sería una mejora.
My bp has been elevated for a yr. or so now (140-150) systolic. At my last wellness check my good ol' doctor pre-scribed a med for it. Well, it really had some weird side effects. First it made me feel terrible. It made me unsteady on my feet. Sort of like I was walking forward and side to side at the same time. My short-term memory went to He]]. And it wasn't doing s#it for my bp. I bought the Equate to monitor it. Ok, so I quit the meds after 2 weeks and started drinking beet juice and eating those super beets chews. In 2 days it was back to normal. Woo Hooo.
Good video! Hard as heck finding the documentation on the net. Therefore, I took pics of you holding it to get some info although I think I figured out how to set the clock and date BUT there is a number(s) that I can't make out. It is "20:00." You can change the numbers but I have the date and time set. I wonder whether it is military time. Oh well, I have the most important things when I go back to the Dr. in 6 months.
Go to 3:23 and pause the video to see the instructions on how to set the date and time. Another viewer asked this. Here is my response: On mine, I press the center button.
Thank you noticing. My viewers educated me on proper form for blood pressure readings. Now I put the cuff in bare skin, sit still, relax a minute or two before monitoring, and don't talk during the procedure.
Mine has the Start/Stop button on the lower right front. Mine is labeled and the round button has a circle and a vertical line at the top. Do you have anything like that on yours?
My medical people always take my blood pressure over my sleeves and ask me questions during the reading. From this video and comments by viewers, I learned the important of skin and quiet.
Greetings! All apologies for the delay. My instructions say the blinking heart indicate the monitor is taking a measurement and to not move. If you are being still and it won't end the reading, maybe take out the batteries to reset it.
Kim Townsel I figured it out it was being caused from different reading it does some memory readings and if the heart rate at the moment is normal it will still show it because it’s different from the other readings to where it could of been low or high I read that on some website tried it and all good now !👍
Why is she checking her blood pressure with the cuff over clothing? Doesn't she know it's supposed to be done on a bare arm? It can cause a false reading.
I now know to use a bare arm. In this video, I was mimicking what medical people did in their offices when THEY took my blood pressure. Another viewer pointed this and other tips to improve readings. In my next review of a blood pressure monitor, I employ better methods.
@Nadia Reid Thank you! My medical people at the doctors' offices always took it over my clothing so I thought that was OK until people here let me know on the skin was better.
