My favourite period of the Finke Desert Race here in central Australia was the mid 80s to mid 90s, listening for those leading open two strokes coming through the quiet desert looking from a small hill toward the desert oaks....in great anticipation and excitement.

The way Honda's tuck the pipe is way better looking than the KX.

They had it hung the same way in '88 and prior. '89 was the first year that they went to the "lowboy" pipe and inverted forks (the stock forks were horrid) and aside from some minor head angle changes and switching back & forth between a wider and shorter ratio transmissions, it stayed pretty much the same after '94.

@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 I've rode an '89 and my brother has a '97. Only two big bores I've rode are an '84 YZ490 and an '89 CR500. I don't think the YZ counts.... L0L.

Not for nothing but your girlfriends Graphics packages are of out of this world. Every single one has been completely awesome but yet different. I have no idea how she doesn't run out of different concepts.🤔 it's like an endless supply of different Graphics that are all just as cool as the one before. that is an accomplishment. Man, your whole setup down there is top-notch.

I had the 88 RJ model and a friend of mine had the 89 RK. The RK was a nice improvement but I can vouch that the 88 forks felt better. Great bikes and I'd have this bike over any of the 450F today.

This is the One! THE 1989, With decent forks instead of those early Showas. Junior tried to hide it but its just tooo Red to hide! Did the Wizard spend all his overtime on this one cos it shows! The Last ever Win of my life was on one of these, they mean So much to So many riders. Beautiful, beauty, beauty. Kaplan Kings the worlds best Bike Shop!! Love it.

Just sold my 89 cr500. Just constant electrical issues. Kept blowing CDIz. Hopefully in the future il get a reliable one

You can run an entire digital CR250 ignition off a newer bike. Supposedly makes it easier to start too. Will probably do that with my '88 RC500 replica.

Sir, you should absolutely be cast as the next Wolverine. My favorite bike i had was a xs1100 kawasaki boy do I miss that one. Also had a couple big Enduros xr and xl650 and ktm 950 adventure. I really enjoy the vids.

I would love to see a straight line drag between this 500 and a late 80s KTM 500 or 540 two stroke MX bike both in stock trim..I'm thinking this Honda might be getting a headache actually.
