One word...anxiety

Whenever my parents tell me that I'm going to get a blood test done soon, my mind starts going onto overdrive, and I start having a panic attack. On the day of the blood test, I start telling myself that these guys know what they're doing, and that I'll be perfectly fine, but I still keep preparing for the worst. Once the needle goes into my arm, it basically a tsunami on relief, like "It's not that bad." This happens to me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I'm 16, FYI. Like this comment if you react the same way.

im having a blood test tomorrow and im literally know I'm going to have a panic attack and freak out , but at the same time i know I'm gonna be like oh well that wasn't even that bad

i don’t freak out after the needle goes in, i freak out when i see my precious blood going into the tube, let alone taking 5 fucking viles of it. causing me to nearly faint and puke. like what are they trying to donate blood to someone on life support or something like jeez just say that.

I had my first ever blood test today. It honestly wasn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t worry, I’m at home now and it’s a bit bruised but it’s ok!

I’m so scared of having blood drawn but I know it will be helpful and necessary someday. I believe I have a phobia so I have been trying to kind of perform a sort of exposure therapy on myself and watching this video is part of it.

Tips for getting over fear of blood tests like I was able to do: I used to feel like fainting at the thought of a needle or blood test, yet today I had 4 viles of blood drawn with no stress, and here's how: 1) watch videos of people who are calm getting needles like vaccines, so you will be able to see the needle without freaking out anymore. At first it might be hard to look at but you'll eventually get used to it and you will be able to see needles without anxiety. 2) Eat and drink if you're allowed beforehand, and bring water and a cookie to your appointment so you can have them when you're done. It will help you feel better 🙂 3) Be very clear with your medical staff about the fact that you are nervous, and suggest ways to make the experience better for you such as perhaps chatting with you, letting you lie down during or after, and tell them whether you prefer to know before the needle goes in or not. They'll be happy to let you control the appointment! 4) Close your eyes, take a deep breath, I find this much preferred. 5) It's totally fine to be nervous, no need to try to fight that feeling, it will only lead to anxiety. Instead, think "it's okay that I'm nervous. I just need to take a deep breath and hold still, and it doesn't even hurt, and I'm so excited to eat my cookie/see my loved one" - focus on what to do, and positive thoughts 6) it's such a relief when they put a gauze pad on top and press it down after. If you're worried your practitioner won't stick one on you, bring one of your own :) 7) Done already!! It wasn't so bad XD the more you get, the less you'll mind. Best case scenario would be that you have a friend or loved one to be there with you right after!

Just had one today. It is nothing to worry about as long as I don’t have to watch my blood being sucked into the tubes lol. I always look away.

I was so dramatic when I got mine earlier. Crying like a baby, the people in the doctors were checking on me. I was very stubborn and it took 10 minutes of me faffing around and then I was just like. Just do it, I can't be bothered and I was fine. They took 4 vials and I didn't even notice!

I get dizzy and almost passed out

I am having a blood test next week, and I have never had one before. I have had my jabs and they are not bad, do not hurt. But as you are having your blood from the vein does it hurt because some people are different with pain. I'm actually scared to have one. I do not mind the sight of blood. *EDIT:* It is not that bad. Does not hurt. You'll be fine!

Thank you for such a calming and reassuring video. I have a severe needle/blood test phobia and have been getting therapy for it. I managed to watch the whole video today without feeling uncomfortable. Super proud and grateful for this resource. Let’s hope I manage to be ok on Friday for my blood test!

Any tips for overcoming feeling queasy and fear while giving the blood test? I’m going to nursing school soon

Just had another one today. I have a thyroid problem and I’m on drugs that require regular liver function tests. I’d like to reassure people but from my personal experience I feel so anxious to the point of palpitations and feeling physically sick….Every time. I faint about 30% of the time, usually when I’m really worked up. I nearly cried today after it was done but I think it was relief. It’s so pathetic and I’m not getting any better as I get older, I’m 31! On the plus side, Blood tests aren’t really that painful and don’t last that long, I think it’s more the idea of them that frightens people,it is definitely a psychological battle for me. Best tip is to spark up a conversation with the nurse and don’t stop talking until it’s done. Never be embarrassed to let them know you’re anxious either, my nurse today called in another nurse and she held my hand and we spoke about holidays and hair dye!!!!

Does anyone have and tips on going through a blood test. I am deathly afraid of needles, I hate feeling them prick my arm, I hate feeling like something is getting drained out of me. I get one in a week. Someone please HELP ME!!! Edit: I survived. I just played music and it went by fast.

I'm completely unafraid of needles, but when I got this type of test today (13 years old). It was quite painful, felt like a screw going under my skin; I just closed my eyes in a 1-second mild agony. It hurt for some time later too and swelled ever so slightly and my father even admitted it to being painful, guess it's normal.

Blood test on January 2nd 2021(which is tomorrow) does anyone have any encouragement that I wont be afraid?

Why can't American hospitals have that band thingy with the holes in it. We have those blue rubber bands that they tie around our arm. It's very uncomfortable

Was nervous af but it was a very simple procedure. Didn’t even hurt, they took 7 bottles

The problem is my nurse skips the step to hold the gauze and just covers it and I keep getting bruises and bleeding through the plaster. But when I try tell her she tells me I’m too scared of needles 😂 when I’m perfecting fine with them.

I'm 17,and I'm terrified of blood tests,just a few days ago,i got mine done,and the night before my test i could barely sleep,i kept waking up,it was a disturbing,and on the morning i started to sweat even on a cool day,i started panicking as i was taken to the diagnostic centre,and i almost cried,but it was suchhh a relief after it was done😮‍💨😭 its alright to be scared of needles,its called trypanophobia and people often tend to have it,but nothing to worry about,they are expertised,and know their jobs well.❤

i have a blood test tomorrow and i am soo scared :( Edit: it was so easy i didnt feel anything. The doctors did spend a while looking for my "petite" veins 😅😁. My skin is sensitive so i did bruise a lot and it hurt to move my arm for 2 days but that's about it. Nothing too bad.

It all depends on how skilled the person taking the blood test is. If they move the needle while it's in you can feel it. Usually it's nothing, just a slight discomfort straightening your arm afterwards and a bruise.

I just came from a blood test but they didint do it like this they just told me to hold my hand tight and they just put the injection in the skin and get the blood But I have a operation today so I’m having panic attack

i get blood tests all the time (chronic illness things) but i have deep veins so it always really hurts and gets bruised and they normally have to do it more that once to actually get blood. ive tried drinking water and everything but it doesnt help, does anyone have any ideas?

I've got mine in 2 weeks, I've had blood tests done previously and I find it easier to look because I can see that it is only a small needle. It's when blood squirts out that I don't like, which has happened before.

The cleaning of the vein, that is the process that just brings in all the anxiety and fear for me. I very much detest that part. 0:40 and 0:50 are my biggest biggest biggest fears

My doctor/nurse doesn’t clean the area around where the needle goes in. They don’t ask how I’ve been/am and they prepare their needle with their back turned. I look away when they take the sample. Whose to say they aren’t putting something in at the same time? I feel unwell for a couple of months every time I have a blood test...

I have had three blood tests the first two months of the year and I have hyperthyroid, I had never been to the doctor before this (I'm 15) I get so over whelemed when the needle is inside of me I start to shake my whole arm and the tube shakes so it is hard for the nurse and I feel really bad for them lol. sometimes I even twitch my head sideways like I'm an insane asylum patient. It is so embarrassing

In 2018 my doctor ordered me to do blood work but I put if off for 3 years. She said,``If I put in another lab slip will you do it?'' In 2020 I did it. Everything was good but my HDL was a bit low at 36.

I freak out how bad the nhs nurses are they just jab you asap and dont listen to you when you tell them my other arm is the last time it was taken and end up taking 4-5 attempts to get blood out. They do not know the procedure or ever use a warming pad or gel or tell you to hydrate.

I absolutely can’t stand blood tests. They can make me feel faint or really sick! For me it’s not so much the needle I’m anxious of, it’s the thought of it going in a vein...I don’t like veins.

Take it from me I get blood tests and injections every week and blood tests aren’t bad at all just know that the phlebotomists knows what there doing
