Bloodborne Bosses: Overrated/Underrated

I really liked Father Gascoigne. I also enjoyed being able to use the music box aspect in the fight.

Ludwig is my favorite boss in video game history but I just wish lady maria was a bit harder because that fight was really good too.

The big issue with Maria and what drags her down is not just that parry works, but the fact that since guns stun her you can just mash l2 every time she's doing something up until p3 and more often than not you'll either be completely safe or get a free parry. At that point she has like three moves that are really any threat and they all have very easy to see tells

1:39 the blood-starved beast is a very big challenge, for new players, but I think that this type of challenge does work within the context of the game. The blood starved beast is an optional bus at this point, so you can just go to all the item to get materials and fight the blood starved beast later (maybe after Hemwick channel lane) when your character is a bit leveled up. But, the fact that this boss is available so early on means that if this isn’t your first play through and you’re already experienced with the game you can unlock chalice dungeons way earlier than you normally would, adding a lot of customization to repeat playthroughs. I think the blood starved beast is an appropriate challenge considering it’s an optional boss.

To me, Ludwig is second only to Senator Armstrong as the greatest boss in any videogame ever.

Maria’s fight is the perfect setting for a sword duel between two hunters

Gherman is underrated. Too many people overlook him when talking about best boss of the series

I’ve been playing through this game recently and seeing the later bosses rated so highly is def giving me the inspiration to push through the rest of the beasts

I say again all maria needed was just parry immunity. She uses blood so it fits perfectly. Inavine you parry her in first phase but then in the second phase. The blood you spill from her goes to her swords or her health REGENS instead of depletes. It would an awesome twist and scary as FUCK.

I really don't get what you base the general opinion on whether you think if a boss is over or underrated. For instance nobody really talks about Ebrietas you never see her in any top 10s or rankings yet you think shes overrated? Same with Gehrman, literally general public opinion about him is he's great and a fun and iconic boss yet you rank him as underrated? Idk doesn't seem to really add up to me

lady maria was my all time favorite boss in the series until sister friede's 3rd phase in DS3. i haven't touched bloodborne in years but i still think about that fight with lady maria, that arena, her attacks, it was just a fun fight.

Fighting maria and logarius get me in a flow state that is addictive

Lady Maria is the perfect fight in Bloodborne for me. Amazing moveset, great lore, perfectly fitting music and cutscene. I wish there was a boss rush mode in the game like in Sekiro, so I could fight her on a daily basis.

Kos is my favorite FromSoftware boss and one of my top 3 favorite bosses in all of video games (the other 2 are Yozora from KH3 and Vergil from DMC5).

i 100% agree with lady maria. i remember my first playthrough being so incredibly excited to fight her because i had always heard the resounding praise for her... and then i beat her first try with little to no effort it was such an extreme letdown especially when shes such a spectacle of a fight if you dont demolish her in 30 seconds.

Forgive my rant Gehrman is a little too easy for me. But I think that's part of his fight. A withered old tortured man fighting with every ounce of his decrepit being to spare you from the insidious moon. I love it Same with lady maria. I think she's extremely hampered because you can parry her. It's supposed to be a balance cus she can be quite relentless but it decimates her. She should've been made invuldnerable to it. Imagine how cool it would be if you did a parry on her second phase only for it to make her health regen or her attacks get bigger(she uses blood afterall). But the one on duels in souls game cant be matched so I love her too. The orphan is just pure chaos. I think hes especially hard cus he can just stop the animation for his attacks and do something completely different. It really throws me off and while extremely challenging, he's always a fun engagement. The lore behind him is most intriguing as well. Ludwig the accursed is an awesome beast boss. I love the irony that Ludwig departed from gehrman's ways as he anticipated larger more ferocious beasts yet hes the largest most feral beast in the game. A decent and balanced boss fight as there's a specific way to dodge all the attacks but you'll never know in your first few rounds so he'll seem way harder in the beginning. But that second phase man. It's just unbeatable in my eyes I'm sorry. I love one on one duels and we got there in spades. Dont let his appearance fool you or count him out. Hes more man than half the humans in this game. A noble hunter and knight. And this is biased but the holy moonlight sword.. come on man. Everything about this fight works so well. The first phase. The bright green of fromsoft's staple blade illuminated the crimson red of the arena. The pile of corpses laid bare. And Ludwig's clear display of form and skill as he wields the sword like a master. I only played bloodborne last year and without a doubt he is my favourite boss fight of all time

The bloodstarved beast is incredibly frustrating. But i feel its a bit underrated. Its a true bloodborne beast. I feel its the real wake up call of the bloodborne's gameplay. Speed. Aggression. Wild. Violent. All that bloodborne is right in this boss. Gascogine and cleric beast are calm in comparison

Shadows of Yharnam is the only triple gank boss done right. Sunken King gank squad wishes it could be as well designed as Shadows

The one reborn arena looks exactly like the arena of the tower knight

Me personally I love Maria and orphan but I cannot stand orphan’s ranged attacks, it seems like I either dodge it and I don’t get hit or a i dodge the exact same way and I do get hit it always feels so inconsistent to me, but other that it is definitely one of my favorites fights in bloodborne

I'm so glad someone else acknowledges that The One Reborn has the potential to melt you. Every video and thread I've seen talking about him says he's super easy and yeah, some runs I've been lucky, but so many times I just get one-shot or wombo-comboed to death. And that run back is BRUTAL

I personaly don't like it when Lady Maria's flame's in phase 3 hit and stun you even tho she didn't even get her hit off and as a result you lose an openings. It's not a major problem but it's a bit annoying

Imo logarius is the most underrated in the entire series its a thing were everyone thinks he’s good while I think he is perfect my favorite in all of bloodborne

This guy is the epitome of that kid who tries the cookie flavors and says that's my favorite for all of them. He had like 8 personal favorites.

Lady Maria while hella cool is a little overrated gameplay wise purely because of how parrying makes her fight trivial

Maybe ya all can help me: I have never played (don't have a PlayStation). However, I want to watch others play to see what everyone is raving about. However, I tried to watch one of my favorite LP RU-vidrs play (Christopher Odd) and I got bored after a few videos. I tried to just watch a challenge run from one of my favorite challenge run RU-vidrs (The Backlogs) and I just get bored with the game halfway through his videos (which I usually enjoy as he ads humor and a story to his videos). Are there any recommendations for videos I could watch that I can see the entire game and not get bored with it (seems like half the game is in the beginning city and it just so bland to me that I get tired of watching the character running around the same town)? I have watched full playthroughs of all three Dark Souls as well as Elden Ring so it's not my lack of ability to watch full playthroughs (haven't done Sekiro as I usually have them on while I work and I can't keep stopping to read the subtitles while working).

Well since you didn't include them, I do belive the Queen and the Bloodletting Beasts are underrated, and also Pthumerian Elder. Abhorrent Beast is properly rated, very good fight

i love bloodborne, was my first souls game and my first game on ps4. the blood starved beast was my nemesis, but i think he was weak against fire.

Moon Presence is my fav in bloodborne by design and lore but its just too easy. Even if they just gave it a bigger health pool id be satisfied.

You can avoid the sword attack completely by just shooting the sword

Beast Roar is key to cheese Micolash and keep him from getting Call Beyond off imo.

Im gonna be honest. Everyone sees to talk about Maria. She is a great fight, but everyone talks about her like shes the best when i think her being to easy ruins it a bit for me. I do prefer Orphan and Ludwig in terms of challenge

Orphan has a really cheeseable ai all you have to do is slap him twice with Ludwig's holy blade then roll back and to the right to doge his counter. Then repeat

You know that it's trivially easy to cheese the Blood-starved Beast just by throwing beast blood vials at the wall, right? Do that and it will completely ignore you for a few seconds even while you're attacking it from behind.

I personally think that the overall Boss-quality in Bloodborne is kinda overrated itself. I think almost every boss comes even close to the quality of even just the mediocre bosses of for example ds3. When i first played bb i was super underwhelmed by the bosses. I think there are just 3 bosses that are even worth talking about. Gehrman, Gascoigne and Lady Maria. Just my opinon i always considered me as a bb hater (still good though).

Fully agree with Maria; don't care what people think of her, but when looking at her from an all-round perspective, she's by far my favourite boss in Bloodborne and maybe even in all FromSoft's games.

I think its kind of a waste to put ludwog as the first dlc fight since many people who bought the dlc will not be able to beat him and explore the rest of the dlc

Mergo's Wet Nurse is a very disappointing MANDATORY final boss. I know people say Gehrman is the final boss, but you don't have to fight him if you just end the nightmare.

Im definitely in the minority but I do think Bloodborne is overrated when it comes to bosses. With the exception of Gehrman, there were no incredible bosses in the main game and several felt quite poor. Still a great game but it’s in my opinion were the areas and atmosphere. However, I do think Maria and especially Orphan and Ludwig are some of the best fights in the entire series so the DLC was a huge step up. I feel like they paved the way for the amazing bosses in DS3 and Elden Ring. Sekiro is still the king of bosses though

I feel like most people really like Lady Maria as a boss so I would say shes overrated. She definitely has the biggest potential to be the best boss in the game but instead she's the biggest wasted potential from mechanics standpoint. Her movement is painfully linear and as mentioned shes too easily staggered and parried. She's like a prototype for the likes of Friede and Malenia. That said visually and lorewise stunning boss.
