Yo Bloodborne does something crazy to me man. Every note every piece of dialogue and sound just hits me so deep. This game saved my life when I almost threw away 5 years of sobriety. It saved me from my own beastly idiocy! I literally would die of overwhelming happiness for a Bloodborne 2.
Gehrman: "I've grown too old for this." Says the one who grows 10 feet tall, moves faster than Sonic the fucking hedgehog, and fights you as the final boss.
Maybe Gehrman has to get zoinked on sedatives for his interactions with the player. And when he isn't zooted he's in perpetual agony. Just like my Grandma. Badass Scythe and all.
+Takashi Mikado After hearing that, and after playing in his Nightmare you really realized that Gehrman isn't bad, he was actually trying to give you mercy and getting you out of the dream, the dream is his own burden and the hunters that visits the place must not carry that burden... man I just love all the LORE in Bloodborne...
+AlXV i believe he used an umbilical cord to get to do it and sort of carful what you wish for scenario thats why i refuse and kill him sorta of a mercy kill
Also, if you choose the "Submit your life" ending, when you in the NG+ hunter's dream, your grave will be there, and the doll will tell you something about the NG yourself...
WAIT, THATS WHERE HE GOES TO?!?! This whole time, I just assumed he left, I didnt know he went there. I thought the only thing there was the bath messengers
Gherman's character is very Tragic, he is trapped in the Hunter's Dream waiting for someone to save him. And the few people who could save him are now dead or just resigned (like Master Willem). All he has left is the doll, a replica of a woman he possibly loved and couldn't get over. His fate is sad, but he still offers the player an escape, even knowing that he will leave and be left completely alone.
The characters in this game are really well written despite how little dialogue they're given. Gherman, Simon, Eileen, all have endings that really hit you in the feels.
Hearing Gehrman's crying has made more than one player swear off of the Yharnam Sunrise ending. They were willing to subject their Hunter to the same hell just so that Gehrman can be freed of it.
Yea i agree. I cant imagine just leaving him all alone in a hellscape. We have to do better. We are far stronger and more capable, freeing him is the least we can do.
I was having a hard time after Rom, my build wasn't the greatest and it was my first time playing a souls game, I though of giving up, so I decided to return to the dream in order to see the beautiful scenery one last time, when I saw him, this poor old man, crying all alone, it was right there I decided it didn't matter how many times I had to die nor how many foes I had to slain, I was determined to free this poor man from this horrible nightmare
This started as a joke but now it’s actually kinda serious, I created my character to look like an alien, like orphan of kos or a great one etc. then I named him Mars Presence, obvious reference. Then I just played through the game with the alien perspective, trying to understand what in the world these people are like. then once I finish this playthrough, he’ll realize he can control the hunters dream by taking place of gehrman thereby controlling any further hunters and such. Making them more, acceptable? For the mars presence. Alternatively, mars presence has had fucking enough of all the bullshit that earth keeps doing, and is there to fuck shit up and kill people.
I just noticed that gehrman has the same cry like orphan of kos before we fight him. And there is special dialogue when you beat him and go to the dream and speak to the doll
I know this video is old but I just finished the game DLC included I find it eerie that Gherman and the Orphan of Kos have a similar sobbing sound that could just be coincidental though...
it's no coincidence. Gherman, Maria, Laurence, and Ludwig were all cursed for their respective sins by the great ones, doomed to eternal suffering. Laurence was cursed to be scorched and bathed in flame so that he would endure the pain he inflicted upon old yharnam when he burned it to the ground. Maria was cursed to relive her experiences in the healing workshop, and the atrocities the healing church committed in their quest for insight. Ludwig was turned into a horrid beast as punishment for his war on the beasts And Gherman, was doomed to relive the terror that the orphan felt when he striped it from its mothers whom to let the healing church experiment on it. Every night, when he falls asleep, he awakes as the orphan. When Gherman is talking about the terrible dream, he's not referring to the hunters workshop. he's referring to the orphans nightmare.
This is a nice way of thinking about it, but unless you got a source, this is all made up. The only thing you said that is 100% is that Laurence, Maria, Ludwing and Gherman are being punished. Expecially the thing about Gherman waking up as Orphan of Kos...the only thing certain is that, when he sleeps, he's affected by the Hunter Nightmare, even though he's prisoner of the Hunter Dream (and he willingly offered himself to be the host of the Dream)
no, a theory needs solid basis. Like, the fact that Solaire might been Gwyn's firstborn in Dark Souls 1. He was obsessed with the Sun, and he called the Sun "a magnificent father". THAT was a theory. And even with those solid basis, it was proven wrong. If you don't have any basis, you're just using your imagination freely: that's not a theory, that's a fanfiction! And I wasn't a dick about it, I said that it was nice and talked about things we know to be 100% true. YOU are being a dick to me, just because you like that "theory".
What I find the most fascinating about Gherman is that even though he is this desperate to be freed from the dream, and how much pain he is in, he still wants to free YOU, so that you don't have to bear his burden, even if it means continuing to be trapped in the dream, alone once again.
I've never seen the doll sit next to the dlc tombstone and say that. I think I got the gherman dialogue though but ghermans rarely in the dream for me for some reason. Only near the beginning of the game I see him frequently.
i got the gherman dialogue very early on first playthrough and only realized it was gherman after it was too late into the axe swing :( never got it since
Wow I've played through Bloodborne more times than I can count yet I've never heard the Doll's prayer or talked to Gherman after defeating Rom. I hope they either make a sequel or at least a remastered version with a little bit of new content for the PS5. Sony would be foolish not to.
I swear, I had all of these but JUST ONCE. No matter how many times I replayed the game after that (NG+ or straight up making a new character) I never saw/heard these dialogues again. All I get now is the Doll sleeping sometimes.
I think the Doll’s dialogue can only ever occur if you haven’t gone into the Hunters’ Nightmare at any point before she’s triggered to speak (which is after killing Rom, maybe?). I always go there early to pick up blood stone chunks, so I’ve only ever heard her dialogue like once.
Bloodborne will always be my favorite FromSoft game. Is it the hardest? No.. That’s still Dark Souls 2 and 3 for me. But I love the gothic atmosphere, the deep intricate lore and story that deals with issues most games wouldn’t even think about adding in. I also just had so much fun playing it, same with Elden Ring. I couldn’t stop for weeks. Dark Souls 2 and 3 would make me so mad and annoyed that I just give up for long periods of time, but I found Bloodborne and Elden Ring to be slightly more accessible. If you get stuck on a boss, you aren’t just trapped in a particular area until you beat them, you can venture out and grind and go for smaller bosses first and come back to it. I’m not saying I dislike Dark Souls 2 and 3, but they just weren’t as fun to me. I still haven’t played Dark Souls 1, Demon Souls or Sekiro but Sekiro is definitely next on my list.
@@user-kq8iu4bl2bthat depends from person to person, i find bloodborne very easy and fun because of my aggressive play style, but dark souls very boring and hard cause it is way slower and playing aggressively is generally a good way to die a lot
I got lucky enough to find her praying on my first playthrough. I was a bit taken aback. Such a cool little moment that I had no idea was rare at the time.
0:53 that is the same cry of the Orphan Of Kos. That means my theory was correct all along: The Orphan Of Kos takes Gehrman's shape. That's why he looks like an old man.
O Flora, of the moon, of the dream... O little ones, O fleeting will of the ancients... Let the hunter be safe, let her find comfort... And let this dream, her captor... foretell a pleasant awakening... Be one day... a fond, distant memory...
Just recently beat the game. Glad I chose the 3rd ending; I gave Gehrman what he wanted and for the most part, I think the Moon loses it's power? Allegedly? Hunting the Great Ones was what I wanted anyway.
It's the best ending because not only are you freeing Gehrman from the dream but you're also the one who saves yourself from having the same fate of being stuck in the dream by the Moon Presence and ascend to become a great one.
ive only ever had the last one, of the doll saying that, ive NEVER knew u could go there, i just assumed gherman just dissapeared else where to some where we arent meant to know, this was so cool!
Well, gehrman killed an ancient baby, becoming captive in the dream, you kill one too, or two, depending on how many you kill you get a different punishment or ending.
it's possible you were ridiculously lucky, this was the only time I ever heard the doll. Gehrman is a little more common, I got his by resetting the area about 20/25 times
