Italian Wars Mod Gameplay - Today we are checking out a new mod for Medieval 2 Total War. It is called Italian wars and is based in the 16th Century. I am going to be taking on jackieFish in this ledgendary struggle! Enjoy the battle :D

Pike and shot era was from roughly 1500 to 1700 and featured giant wars like the thirty years war, english civil war, the 80 years war, the ottoman wars, the italian wars, the huguenot rebellions, the protestant/calvinist uprisings, the constant northern wars ect. Not to mention the colonization of Americas and the age of sail. This scale of warfare had not been seen in Europe since the Roman era. Huge famous battles like the two battles of Vienna, the siege of malta, the sea battle of Lepato, and numerous others. Dude a DLC do not cover it even half-way. The pike and shot era makes the medieval era look peaceful. 30 years war alone was the most destructive war in europe pre WW1.

Hell, The Thirty Year's War was more devastating by average - about 36% of the population on average disappeared in The Thirty Year's War against about 7% from the First World War. The Italian Wars were only just in the P&S period.

That's where pike and shot would fall under. Sort of. The era from 1450 to 1700 would feature some of the most dynamic technological inventions and changes in how the battles were fought. From late midde ages to renaissance, and eventually pike and shot to standing armies. From Conquest of the New World, Thirty Years War, Italian Wars, Ottoman Conquests, The Deluge etc. This period features some of the most diverse and grandiose aspects of historical warfare, IMO. Would be a dream come true.

Playing against Naples in the XVI century is playing against the spanish empire in its best moment. You can´t beat spanish tercios whith Florentine crap xD

Spain could never reconquer them, even though it tried its best for eighty God-damn years. The Habsburg Empire was seriously overextended during this era and was falling apart in every theater.

Smygskytt #1 typical British overly biased history. You brag about defeating the invincible armada when it was destroyed by storms and bad weather. You also don't speak about the English armada trying to land in Cadiz, they were utterly defeated. You also don't talk about the battle of Cartagena de las indias, where the English royal fleet were defeated by 6 Spanish ships, the admiral in command of the English fleet lied about the battle and told your king that they had conquered the Spanish West Indies. The Spanish were undefeated in land for 150 years. We didn't loose the hegemony in the sea until trafalgar. I could keep talking about how the American natives were treated by the English. Much worse than the Spanish

What an awesome battle! :D I have some hints for your next one: 1. Use Arquebusiers instead of handgunners, they have a much better range 2. Place your missile units inside your pike formation, so they can protect each other (3.) That one is a matter of taste, but I always use my artillery to force the enemy into an attack. Pike and shot is a very cool time period, and the Italian Wars are an interesting part of it, with armored heavy cavalry and crossbows still in use it is the cross section between two eras.

I really like the Italian Wars. It was a really interesting point in history where tactics were changing towards gunpowder warfare. Charles VIII surprised all off Italy when he brought cannons into siege warfare. Sieges that took months to complete were over in a couple of days.

There is mod for mtw2 named medieval 2 battleaxe.I like it because some factions gets access to a gunpowder unit called GUNNERS. The cool thing about them is that they actually fire their guns like we want them to.They are OP.

Pikeman's and gunners were acting as one unit back then. Maybe you should try to put gunners on top of the pikes so pikes protect would them from cav and sword/spear infantry. Also you can add infantry with swords and shields at the back, but its not necessary because it was only the case at the early stages of this period.

I find on med 2, cav should charge at the unit behind as so you get a better crash at the first line. Definitely lowers their morale. Just make sure you have a nice amount of heavy cav with you.

You should try out Tiger Knight - Empire War. It's like Total War but your a general of one unit fighting with other generals. It's also like Mount and Blade because of combat.

I wanna see a Total War that focuses on the transition from the Medieval age to the early age of gunpowder. The new world could still be largely uncharted and you could lead armies of conquistador into the heart of America while fighting hordes of natives. Or it could focus on the struggle for Hapsburg dominance and the Austrian war against the ottomans. I dunno it sounds like it would be pretty cool

My comment is a little late however the Tsardoms mod covers that period with a map consisting of the Mediterranean. It also covers the formation of Austro-Hungary and the Ottomon wars.

I like this time period in Italian history, where many of the big names in that time were mercenary captains and were also great leaders an dukes, like Francesco Sforza and Federico Da Montefeltro. I hope they are in this mod.
