May.19 -- With the semiconductor industry facing a global chip shortage, one company in the eye of the storm has been experiencing a meteoric rise: AMD. At the helm is engineer turned CEO Lisa Su, who transformed the company into a chip powerhouse. Shares are up 2240% under her tenure and AMD chips, short for Advanced Micro Devices, are now embedded in everything from Microsoft’s XBox to Sony Playstation and Apple Macs to massive data center machinery. On the latest Studio 1.0, Bloomberg’s Emily Chang sits down with the chief executive to discuss AMD’s impressive comeback story; her bets that are paying off in rising market share and stock price; and the road out of the chip shortage.

Chipfoundries and developers will experience more and more demand going into the future, no question about it.Even your modern carkey got a chip inside it.Dr. Lisa Su has executed a brilliant feat with turning the AMD ship around, and she's not stopping.Can't wait for what is coming when they implement TSMC's 1nm tech (as stated in a recently press-release) into AMD chiplets.It is mighty good fun to be able to experience this forwardleaping tech:)

Hats off to Chang for asking intelligent questions and treating Dr. Su like the smart and capable person that she is and only spending like 10% talking about the fact that she's an Asian woman. She's intriguing because of who she is and what she does, and because of her insights. Plus it's interesting seeing specialists in a field rise to the top of their companies at a time when there's criticism on MBAs running every industry.

Intel's Alder Lake (coming late this year or early next year) is going to regain the crown for a little while.... But Zen 4 is going to end the conversation for Intel. That's where Intel will fully feel the effect of having squandered away their leadership in manufacturing. Alder Lake will bring Intel roughly on parity with AMD (but not TSMC) on manufacturing, but Zen 4 will be on 5nm which is, yet again, an entire node shrink ahead of Intel... The trouble for Intel, though, is that TSMC's 5nm is already ungodly good with yields as good as 7nm, and AMD is only going to cash in further on their chiplet advantage.

Ah.. The good Dr. Su is just as good at talking without really saying anything as she is at expressing exactly what she wants her teams to do. I find it fascinating that she can take on the most piercing, even borderline hostile, interviewer (not that Emily is of the sort) while retaining her cheerful composure and still not give out anything AT ALL of strategic value to the competition.

Great CEO, and AMD is my favorite Tech company. That said, women are more attracted to people than things, which is why more are not engineers. As long as the opportunity is equal, the numbers will be what they will be.

I think Krishna might be Sun microsystems, KDE Linux and Samsung (Symbian) Android. Darth Vader is Apple iOS, Blackberry (business users), MacOS, GNOME Linux, HP-UX. PA-RISC. Itanium (Joint Darth Vader and Us (Intel)).

Expect a Shortage of IBM hardware as well. That 'Sith' Sind is IBM. They've been sent to Absolute Zero. SCO Santa Cruz Operation is Microsoft & Intel. Xenix and Windows and X86. That 'Sith' Sind is PowerPC. His Sons were HP-UX (GTK) and Sun Solaris (Qt). Now his Sons are on Linux Gnome and KDE. AWT and Swing on Java. Android and Blackberry (Qt), Symbian (GTK).
