You have to take your hat off to Rick. Survived the ups and downs of a pop career. Stayed out of trouble and now see him deliver a cool track like this to the now generation who love him. Well done Mr Astley.
Full respect to Rick Astley. Saw him a few years ago at the Isle of Wight festival, and he did a great cover of AC/DC's Highway to Hell. Good luck to him and Blossoms for their upcoming Smiths tribute.
I think Morrissey actually could do a decent cover of Rick tbh. If you listen to his solo work he improved his vocal range and abilities quite a bit post Smiths and he has done a few covers himself.
I try to explain this to my very younger housemate in her 30's. This video makes my year, as in the 80's, Astley was a representative of cheesy pop music. Therefore, seeing him cover The Smiths is the equivalent of Beyonce covering Siouxsie and the Banshees. It's such a break-through that warms my heart.
I've seen Rick numerous times and would go see him every single time when he is local...ish. He always throws in a good few covers and they're always incredible. He's a brilliant drummer too! Cannot wait for him to come back to Cardiff!
This is absolutely fucking great. Better than anything Moz has done whenever he can be arsed to show up. Shame Johnny couldn't see the funny side though.
I love this so much. I remember reading that Jason Donovan was a great fan of The Cure - so now I just want him to perform Just Like Heaven. Please, somebody!
Everyone loves this except Johnny Marr. He is just jealous because it sounds so good. If they don’t want to do a tour of them playing the smiths then I will take Rick roll any day.
I shouldn't be liking this but I do , it's a absolutely brilliant song and the energy of the performance from Rick and the band is great . The audience seems to be digging too 🤭
There's lots of comments about Morrissey or Marr hating this, but someone gave permission for Rick Astley to do it. Unless, they no longer own the rights, of course.
