I was amazed at the response on Reddit and RU-vid to the cover of Everlong and all the requests to release it! So here you have it, hope you enjoy it as much as I love singing it ! Rick X ditto.fm/rickastleyeverlong
Not caring for Rick in HS seems to be odd. Im 50 now and i knew Rick was an awesome performer. Thats why its kind of dumb when they started mocking him with the Rick Rolling thing🥱
Rick, I’m sorry that RU-vid - in its infinite wisdom - never suggested this video before today. You definitely did right by the Fighters of Foo. Excellent job, mate.
As this being my second favorite song of all time, specially the acoustic Version the vocal completely shocked Me and were amazing the only bad thing is the guitar playing but that fine that not his strong suit
It's probably hard for him to monetize someone else's song. The ad money would go to the owners of the song he's covering, so it makes sense to not run ads.
No one deserves to have a resurrection of fame more than Rick Astley. A talented and terribly dismissed and underrated artist in his time he's matured into an excellent all-around singer and songwriter. He's handled his newer fame with patience, class, grace and good humor. Seems like a decent family man in his personal life as well.
Agreed. He took time off from what could have been a huge career in music to be with his family, and he really genuinely enjoys the popularity of the Rickroll phenomenon. Very good guy all the way around. I hope he gets bigger now than ever. He deserves it.
How am I just seeing this now, four years later? This is fantastic. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I really just thought Rick Astley was a made up character. This dude is a phenomenal musician. It was a pleasure to have this fed to me by RU-vid.
Which gained because rick rolling put him back in the spotlight, and instead of hiding away or trying to claim copyright on meme videos, he embraced the new found popularity allowing this jam to happen.
@@Pattomir1 exactly! He's profited in multiple avenues due to the meme. I'm sure not *all* the attention is wholesome but I'm sure most is beneficial since a ton of people respect him and his songs. I never considered it a bad song but maybe younger people who *only* know it through the Rick Roll have another impression. Also, to have the internet as a whole to kind of adopt your song is pretty cool. New people are exposed to it daily
You may have started something... a proper passing of the meme torch to someone worthy. Until then, Rick astley will hold his place as one of the original memes
Its not that i forgot, Im just 23. As far as I remember, he has always been the rick roll. Popular culture did a bad job at showing he was more than just a meme, and my own failure to do further research until now is slightly regretable. But he clearly isnt torn up about it lol.
@@rickdaniels1000 Definitely gotta disagree there. Weird phrasing choices at times, wrong lyrics, wrong chords on guitar and mistakes playing. You're entitled to your subjective opinion. All art and music is subjective. I just find it a bit disrespectful to Dave to suggest this is better than his original. I think even Dave's modern live performances are better than this. But maybe as a musician myself I just hear things differently than the average non musician listener.
After in 2020.... Neil Cicierega mixes Never Gonna with Hurt by Johnny cash, which is a cover of NIN on the same album that mixes Closer of NIN with Fireflies and "Everlong" with Aerosmith and Aerosmith with Greenday. Next step: Green day covers Fireflies ... or else an All Star cover from Smash Mouth.
The fact that Rick is back in my suggestions after all these years, makes me happy to see he's still going as a singer and artist alike. *'Cause he never let us down or deserted us*
Nothing better than a cover that sticks to the original but ALSO changes it up just enough to make it feel unique. The pacing and extra notes on the ends of the lines in the chorus are sososo...damn...good.
O my god do u not know who he is h has a music career he is famous for his song never gonna gove u up in my country and generation coz its a meme still😂😂😂
Are you kidding me?????? That voice from the 80's... And one of the greatest numbers of all times.... Didn't think you could pull that of.... But you did..... Respect to you Rick.
@@cmcc3721 That's a pretty negative way to look at it. I mean, perhaps respect and kindness can be considered a brand image, but I chose to believe Dave doesn't just do it for the image and all its benefits, but it's truly his personality. I guess we'll never know for sure, so you may be right and you are of course entitled to your opinion.
@@cmcc3721for some musicians I would say yes but for Dave it’s always for the love of music. All you have to do is watch any interview or special on him to see. He’s genuinely a nice guy who is very, very talented. He gets paid cause he is that good!
People who got famous in the 90’s are covering songs from the 80’s and people who got famous in the 80’s are covering songs from the 90’s. What a time to be alive.
I saw an interview where he said that he is just famous enough to still make a good living doing music without constantly getting bombarded by fans on the street. I think that he may have found the sweet spot.
@Tyler Mod nah hes just got a lot of reverb in the mic to try and mimic everlongs disticnt tone. If it were autotune, you would be able to hear the words distort a little bit on pitch correction. In fact, there are multiple points in the song where he either messes up or deliberately changed the notes.
This was so good, sitting on my back porch in rural Queensland Australia at twilight, watching hundreds of flying foxes flying overhead. Just thought I’d share that. Thank you! 🙏
Rick Astley's voice is great. I had no doubt it would be, but I was so impressed by his guitar skill while singing. So well done. I hope Dave got to see it. RIP Taylor...
I have such massive respect for Rick Astley- proper talented musician which I didn't realise until recently. The Glastonbury Smiths was amazing- but this is bloody amazing and the 'Never gonna give you up' he does live with the Foo Fighters live blew me away. Legend!
it actually makes me really happy that this guy is still living a wonderful life to this day, a lot of times it seems that famous people always get wrapped up in stuff they shouldn't be involved with, but rick's just kinda at his little home vibing to his favorite tunes. much love, rick!
I'm coming back to this video after 4 hard years of grinding to put my life back together after covid and it's fallout. I'm better, happy, and at peace. Thanks for the awesome cover, and great memory in a trying time.
Super nice guy, too. I was a bouncer at Webster Hall, a club in NYC, and he actually came over to me and shook my hand, thanked me, and wished me a goodnight.
Can we appreciate that Rick is such a cool and down to earth guy. He doesn’t mind the rickroll meme nor even capitalized on it and for that I have so much respect for him. His voice is also so fucking good.
He really is. He's so damn famous and such a staple of the internet that I was almost shocked that he's not only still alive, but very much still young.
This guy did things the right way: got out of the business early with some cash and his sanity, and now does whatever the hell he wants. Good job on a great song too! Thanks Rick.
Man, this guy is so cool. He could have taken the whole meme thing the wrong way and grown bitter, but instead he embraces everything and comes out the other side looking like a million bucks.
A lot of people thought that he was a fake singer and that he was lip synching. They thought the real singer was an older larger man because they didn't believe such a young thin white guy could have such a deep voice.
