Vids like this are popular because it's probably the closest we'll ever get to actually working a mine. It kinda feels like we're a part of it, we've been hanging out watching you dig and build and work down there for a long time. Some fortunate viewers were lucky enough to actually have a part of that mine...someday I'll be able to weigh gold with my eyeballs and I'll have a piece of it too lol

i can only go by what i am familiar with...again hard rock granite the mine my grandfather worked ran 3 shifts and mucked out 3 times a day on multiple faces . town of around 100 000 with 20 to 25% actually mining lamac and sigma in town and a dozen others near by ...im guessing 20 feet a day over 3 blasts . so a lot more manpower and the equipment more industrial in harder rock...you alone with a jackhammer in basically baked mud should get 2-3 feet in 8 to 10 h ? thanks for the videos

“Gly”: As an abandoned mine explorer I can attest to the blood, sweat and tears that go into the excavation of these mines. There’s no doubt that being a hard rock miner, especially in a pre-industrial civilization was some of the hardest and most dangerous work imaginable. I’m exploring an area in Nevada right now where many 1800’s Chinese immigrant miners were killed by collapse and their bodies were never recovered.

I could have followed along better if I heard what the game plan was in the beginning of the video. Maybe I just missed it other than were digging back. Nice work and lots of it. I'd like to give that a shot sometime. Help Jeff out a little having a second hand, you can see how exhausting it is at times. How long do you reckon before the fun wears off. I know above ground is a little different, some breaks required.

Plus the neighbors might be pissed if I start dredging.. It is shallow enough but again, what little I might get. Tis not logical.

Watching Jeff dig makes me think it might be faster and less taxing for him to build a small, foldable belt conveyer that moves the loose ore/rock from where he digs into the cart. Considering the tight confines of the mine, Jeff could both dig and move the Ore into the cart until its full. Then, 'fold' the belt conveyer into, say, a vertical stack that can move down the same track behind the cart to the next location, or back to the same area he is working on.

That would be pretty easy to design. And add a jack under the muck sheet to lift it high enough to tilt onto the conveyor belt for less shoveling

The Aussies have a device for digging opal. It pushes on the top and bottom(hydrolic)and has an arm, with heavy steel fingers that rakes the wall. I'm not sure if it would work, as it is a pretty good sized piece of equipment. It sure digs the hell out of the wall. Watch some of the opal mining channels and I'm sure you will see one. This is a video I like. There are a number of things I do that take an extreme of 'sticktoittiveness'. I shingle roofs. I paddle a canoe oft times hundreds of miles. I have hand dug basements in prep for building the house. I have backfilled homes that required as much as 1,000 tons of graded stone,, by shovel and wheel barrow. The subtle thing I noticed you doing,,, the hand over the shovel to fill the cart. Most people pick up the blade with the hand under the handle,,, but that presents a difficulty if you are lofting or throwing the shovel load over the side of the cart or wheel barrow. The blade hand over the shovel is the best way,,, just as you do it. I liked this video. Thanks.

So far your drift is soft enough to roto-hammer and that is much less complicated than jackleg drilling & Fire in the hole!!!! You are a great example of human willpower, ingenuity and tenacity for all your viewers !!! Who needs a gym, just become a gold miner! That my friend, is Labor Intensive Work, and most people don't want to work that hard. They'd rather sit back and let the government support them instead while eating chips. Come to think of it chips and salsa sounds really good about now after watching you work so hard. Thanks Jeff for the reality check. I think metal detecting or sluicing is a better way to go. But this was a good education.

I absolutely love all the harbor freight tools in all the videos!!! hope your a member and get those three year warranties on all your products when these people were making these tools they thought they put them to the test... haha they should literally put the tools in your hands before going to market to make sure they are ready for the consumer because no one is going to beat up the equipment like you do! Listen here me old mucker, when I am in that sort of environment, (ie) dry dusty debris, I use a pump action garden sprayer to mist over the debris and surrounding area to dampen down, also ear plugs and a good quality disposable face mask are preferable, as you will not over heat, kindest regards me OLD MUCKER!!

Jeff dig a diagonal shaft to surface and bring in a mini digger and a mini electric train and carts as u start taking the equipment in you widen the tunnels installing wider sets but the smaller sets you use when doing side tunnels

That looks like a whole lot of fun! I’ve worked in a underground mine that was a mile down. But I’m a welder and got hired on as a welder/miner. So I did a lot of welding and repairs underground or installing. But they wouldn’t let me drill or dig. But trying to find one that would let me. Anywho! Great video that is one job I would do for free. Since I was a kid I loved digging tunnels. I can't call them mines because they never produced anything. But still had fun digging them

The price of your own gold mine: Hours and hours and hours of back-breaking work in an environment that runs from unpleasant to downright hellish; under conditions that run from potentially dangerous to to downright insanely life-threatening. Definitely illustrates how tedious and mind numbing some jobs can be. A person has to be content with themselves and confident in their abilities. Your dedication to the profession and your audience is second to none. Thank you for your time, thank you for sharing your world with us. You have given inspiration to some who will try mining, to others you have given first hand knowledge to others who will never be able to do what you do. You sir are becoming a legend.

Just as hard as beach mining! One run: 5 buckets of water to fill the fluid bed tank from the lake 100' away, 36 buckets of wet sand at 120 lbs each, 36 buckets of replacement water, 2 gallons of cons to pan. 4 runs per day. Start at sun-up, end at sundown, sleep, do it again. And Jeff gets more gold!

Thanks Jeff, for displaying the reality of a miners day (or evening, what's the difference?)😃 With a little more room down there, you could have a second person shoveling and empying the cart while you operate the hammer. I know it is hard work, but knowing you are on a pay streak keeps the blood flowing. Great video Jeff.
