I’m doing my own thing as well. It’s not just the professionals confusing people but RU-vidrs too. Ran across an influencer who hasn’t trimmed her hair in 5 years because she believes it’s not necessary. A whole bunch of people were agreeing with her. I don’t like leave-ins, oils, butters or creams with my wash and go. But if my hair is braided up or twisted for a week, I’ll use a leave-in and cream with some butters. I’m good with my routine and I’ll tweak if my hair tells me to.

It's only a problem when they're preaching hard and fast rules. There aren't many of those in hair care. I don't know who the person you're talking about is, but if she did not give a disclaimer, I can definitely see how it might be misleading and confusing for some. Everyone's hair is different. If someone literally has no split ends, never seen a ssk in their life, has no breakage and thinning than they wouldn't need a trim. The people I see with hair like that are usually east asians with coarse straight hair. I live in East Asia so I'm used to seeing their hair. I think people with type 4 natural hair can minimize these things and they might be able to push trims longer if they keep their ends in tip top shape. If you look at people with type 1 and 2 with healthy tailbone length hair, they get trims very very infrequently. I think with many things it can depend on hair OR the person's thinking. Like many people think silicones are bad despite them not being bad in anyway shape or form unlike things that are literally bad as they damage the chemical makeup of your hair irreparably such as hair dye, relaxers, bleach, permanents, etc. Meanwhile people are demonizing silicones, oils, and butters despite the science disagreeing with them yet being okay with damaging chemical processes or underestimating the damaging effects heat and UV rays have on hair.

Wow to how your hair transformed in 1 day. I’m glad you are doing you sis! I returned natural in 2004. Loc’d my hair in 2017, and after 5 years combed them out due to what I now know is psoriasis. I recently cut a lot of my hair, and after all this bgc/30 day detox, I think I’m ready to loc my hair again. Whew! 😂

Looks good. A very good tip from licensed cosmetologist & educator (GlamFam) is to DC hair with a protein-free super moisturizing conditioner prior to blow drying and trim so as to not have dry ends misconstrued as damaged ends and end up with a cut.💇🏾‍♀️

Your hair looked great both before and after your flat twistout shrunk. I love shrinkage it is one of the healthiest things that curly, coily, and kinky hair does and it's beautiful. Blowing your hair out at least showed you that your hair is healthy, and has uneven ends but not split nor do you have tree splits all the way up the hair shaft. I think that really shows that not all hair is the same and that the BGC method works for some and not others. Everyone should be aware of their hair health and make changes when it is showing signs that something is changing negatively regardless of whether they are following a stylist's method or something else. For me, basic hair care is the way to go and that is shampoo, condition, detangle, style, and trim when needed. I don't use raw oils or butter and I never have so it isn't a BGC thing. I use rinse-out conditioner regularly, and deep conditioner as needed. For styling I use gel, mousse, leave-in, or cream depending on the style.
@kapparhotau181

I like to add mousse on top of my curly cream to give a light hold and it helps with humidity for a few days. My stylists says no oils and butters, I ignored her and still use oils and butters except for on my WnGs. But then again I do WnGs only in the warm months and ever so often. Flat twist or regular twist outs are my go to. Winter months I keep my hair twisted and well buttered/oil to seal in the water.
@chal3t
@chal3t 10 месяцев назад
I have found that - for my hair - when I shampoo, condition and put in keave in BEFORE my hair dries, do twists and then allow it to air dry, my hair has lots of moisture. Then if I decide to flat iron my hair the next day or within a few days it is still very moisturized. The twisting and air drying seem to be key for my hair. If I do the same thing but blow dry the level of moisture is not as noticeable but it’s definitely not dry. If I know I’m flat ironing after blow drying I add a heat protectant after the leave-in and it definitely helps protect my hair/cut down on damage. By the same token, I typically don’t make more than one pass & I don’t flat iron every week or even every 2 weeks. (I normally don’t straighten my hair but 4 times a year. But this allows me to trim or dust my ends.) In either scenario I have found that sealing the very ends of my hair with a little caster oil when wet really helps. I can’t leave the twists in bc my scalp doesn’t like the tugging, which has sometimes resulted in traction alopecia. So once my hair is dry, I take them out and let my hair be or lightly pull it back into a bun to protect the ends. Also it’s important to cover your hair at night. My hair is typically SBL but I admit to being lazy and not always taking good care of my hair. Hopefully if I can maintain my routine and stop being lazy I can get it to mid back.

I've been following the no oils and butters thing since 2019 and my hair has been very healthy. I've gone to multiple professionals who have remarked on the health of my hair so I think its doing well but I do feel that I have needed to trim more than I have liked so I added deep conditioning frequently back into my routine. Since it is has only been a couple of months I'm not sure if it will make a difference but we shall see. I don't think there is a one size fits all, just finding what fits for you and your lifestyle.

My hair hates heat too (4c hair). HOWEVER, i blowdry weekly. It's a part of my wash day routine. I layer conditionners (DC, then rinse out conditioner, then leave-in) before putting heat and my hair is moisturized and flourishing. For the first time i beat my plateau. It might look extensive but i do not spend more than an hour and a half on my hair, because, priorities. This works better for me than wash n gos. I love Anthony Dickey, because thanks to him i don't joke wih conditionners and that was life changing. I like to think i do a dry wash n go 😂 Ps: i shampoo weekly (yes, i use silicones and sulfate). My hair eats it up!! Don't forget heat protectant for extra protection. Love you jenn, your hair is beautiful ❤

I have been using no butter or oils for years and have never had an issue. The only time I have an issue is when I go too long with a haircut. I only do blowout cuts no curly cuts for me. I must wear some form of a twist out and a wash and go every blue moon. I prefer Innersense and AG for shampoo and conditioner and lean to a mousse to style. I a leave-in when needed. I think the best thing is to keep is simple.

Jen I used to hate heat also. I have 4c. I had a ghd for years which always left me hair limp until I learned about Ceramic, ionic, infrared, tourmaline , brushless motor etc . Each hair type needs to use the right type. For us 4c fine strands Infrared and Ceramic are best. Leaves hair fluffy and beautiful!!

I’m 4b/c really thick LOW porosity medium strand hairs. I also have a ghd blow dryer. I haven’t blow dried my hair in like 9 months can’t even remember how it felt so I ‘m guessing it didn’t feel bad yet it wasn’t soft. So I will try ceramic or infrared. Any suggestions in brand please? Thanks in advance.

Good dryers for 4c are ceramic yellow bird and the silver bird. If you got the money get the Dyson 👌🏾 Ionic dryers (GHD) are for very coarse 4c strands to smoothen the hair out.. Hope this makes sense. I never knew this so my blow outs always loooked “tired” even with medium heat 😹..

Your hair looks good. My hair is fine post bgc. I enjoyed mastering wash and gos. I also discovered that I hate styling on dripping wet hair. I hate hard hold gels. I followed their 2015 advice of this being a 30 day detox to learn your hair. I was mainly using kinky curly so I was using a leave in most of the time. I was also using Olaplex, Curlmix bond builders and dc. Some of their current advice defied chemistry/scientific logic for this old lady.🙂 Now I'm mainly a twisted natural. I rarely wear my hair out. I also use whatever I want to except raw butters.

I felt the same way when I went to blow my hair out because of all of the commotion back in July😂. Before I even put the blow dryer to it, I looked at it and then myself in the mirror like girl, wth?! As if I don't touch my hair every day to know if I had damage😅. And extensive damage at that. I did blow it out but I was low-key mad at myself for falling for the internet hype😂. That and buying a leave-in. Now I have an bottle of product I didn't need 🥴. You know, your channel was 1 of the first channels I found many many years ago when I first started growing my natural hair out. 😂 Back when we used to make diy products in the kitchen 🙈. I think I've big chopped 3 if not 4 times since then (for styling reasons, never because of hair damage) and I'm now on year 3 with my current head of hair. It's now summer in my country and I'm flirting with cutting my hair again 🙈 but I won't, because I would mainly do it cause of the heat and all that (I'd have my hair in protective styles most of the time and those can get too hot for the head sometimes). But this year I decided to finally learn how to wash and go, I never used to do wngs as I always heard they cause ssk and major tangles for us 4c girls. But after doing my research I found the Anthony Dickey method and have been using it for the past 2 months, and Ma'am?? I'm enjoying wearing my hair out more than anything, and on top of that my hair is flourishing and not a day goes by without me getting compliments and questions about what I'm doing to my hair. Honestly, when I first saw you join the no oils no butters movement I cringed, cause you always preached pre-pooing with oil and that's 1 thing I learned from you that I've kept in my regimen since (except I mainly do it in winter months), but I sat back and watched while I continued to do my own thing with my hair. I'm glad your ends are doing well compared to what everyone else is experiencing. Let's continue to grow happy and healthy curls please. ❤️

As for me I think this is something that has always been an issue or concern with the ends of hair spits and up the hair length. I did a research and found this can happen in all hair types. As for the natural hair community we are evaluating are hair a lot more and using a lot of different products. It could be just using to much product or jells in are hair. That can make the hair hard and break.

Jenn...how does hair look dry 👀? I know our hair has a lumpy surface apearance and so when light hits the surface it doesn't shine much because its not a straight surface. And because the light breaks up when it hits the surface it looks dull. And you know some of us have sandy or brown looking hair ( like my twin sister) so the sun shining on that could look ashy. I dont know girl...hair "looking dry" throws me off 😂😂😂😂. Just because it looks dry...does it mean its dry 🤔? You could go through the wash and condition stage again and it could "look less dry" because now you have conditioner residue left on and so it looks better. Or put mousse on it and it will look really shiny. I am over in my corner pondering things.

The problem with alot of this influencers, just get on trends without even digesting/questioning themselves about the trend and in the end blame the people who tried their best to research and establish something new and interesting. If you digested it well and listened to your hair as you took care of it from he beggining you would've realised it has challenges. There is alot to discover about alot of things under the sun, but no one knows everything we learn and adjust everyday. I don't think mentioning names and calling out people on social media is a way to go apart from wanting views. They established what they saw worked but no one was ever forced to go into that direction...i would commend you more if you came up and said what was your observation for yourself or others and if you did any research or anything else to make it better. That reflects alot on people of this generation, they get swayed so easily with trends nowadays instead of taking time to understand and question it, in the end when things fall apart they start blaming other people for their lack of sense
@JennJackson
@JennJackson 10 месяцев назад
Have you watched any of my other content on this? This isn’t only affecting influencers but a lot of women who wholeheartedly followed this looking for solutions. It wouldn’t even have been a thing had their questions been answered rather than made fun of or blocked. We all understand this is new which is why there is a lot of room for iterations and improvements, something most stylists refuses to acknowledge and continue to present this as a one size fits all approach. A quick glance at the comments will let you know it’s not. Everyone wants to post on social media yet feels some sort of way when they get addressed… on social media.

A comment that shows clearly that you only know a quarter of what has happened, it's imperative that one doesn't only watch one or a few videos and type up an exhortation but take the time to traverse the length and breadth of this issue before commenting...the name dropping isn't malicious or for views its for awareness

AD method is very different from the BGC in my opinion. It doesn’t call for 3 gels and you can use whatever products you want. He also encourages air drying versus blow drying. I’m little confused after watching your live. Is there a reason your hair would be damaged if you didn’t follow the BGC method and got 5 curly cuts in 3 years? Is the concern with your personal routine?
@JennJackson
@JennJackson 10 месяцев назад
I think the reason he doesn't call for 3 gels is because he promotes doing your hair daily. There is no need to "hold your curls" in place for at least a week with gels.. The blowdrying portion of this video was filmed in October when I became aware of all of this and wondered if I may have experienced damaged. I technically started out following BGC's teachings, but didn't care to use the recommended products to a T, which is what I said in the live.

@@JennJacksonnot everyone’s hair is damaged. Healthy hair is based on science, not a “journey”. I would recommend going to a dermatologist or a trichologist and get that scalp checked out. You could also benefit from deep conditioning treatments with a quality product and more heat protectant before you blow dry. I would also recommend a real blow dryer and a round brush. Also a proper trim every 3-4 months. Go to a salon to get started, learn the techniques, and then do it yourself.

Other influencers who do less finger pointing like nappy fu and rozy natural and afrolique are humble and they know what they are doing youre all talk all the time. The gall of you to say is dry the standard now? When even in 4k your hair is considered dry looking
