The funniest thing about this movie is it "represents" Latinos by showing off every Latino stereotype Hollywood knows about. (And that is a pretty sweet truck)

Here’s what I found when I searched it on Google. Stereotype - a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. I’ll use Hispanic as an example since they’re the main focus of the film. For example, a stereotype of Hispanics is that we’re lazy, but in reality are hard working. Hope this helps.

You’re saying what I, and, I hope, many other Hispanic/Latino people feel. We’re sick of being pandered to as a one dimensional cultural monolith with no individual authenticity. We’re humans first and Latino, Afro Latino, Anglo Latino, etc second. (except LaTiNx). I wish they would bring back heroes like Static Shock. He happened to be black, but, it wasn’t his definitive characteristic. He was a well developed character who occasionally dealt with prejudice due to his skin color. But, he kept it pushing, along side his bestie (a white kid) and did what any other kid did, he lived. He fought for justice and lived.

What really annoyed me in the movie was the annoying tropes that he had undocumented parents…. Feeling below white people…. His Mexican family needs to find a way out of the hood…. he’s the chosen one to bring them success…. the wacky Mexican grandma…. Also Him being poor & living in a tiny house ( when in the comics & young justice he’s a middle upper middle class kid who lives in a 2 story house in El Paso 😭
Blue Beetle (from what I watched from Young Justice) is actually kinda horrifying. An alien creature attacks a teen boy (who happens to be Spanish) and embeds itself into his body. Like a virus that intertwines with the immune system and now part of the hosts system. The scarab cannot detach from the host unless it dies. Jamie is stuck with a creature that’s mutated into his being without his consent. And the scarab is a conscious being as well. So this movie should’ve been more like Upgrade meets Deadpool meets The Mummy meets Legend of Zorro or some other Spanish focused movie. Young Justice did Jamie’s burden and overall acceptance of the scarab much better. Animation reigns. (I know s3 of Young Justice is supposedly bad. I’m talking about s1-2).

Yeah girl! I've been waiting for another review by you! Honestly, I am so tired of superhero movies I doubt I'll see this one anytime soon. I was hoping it'd be an anomaly, just a good new story with interesting characters that didn't make you wish the villians would win instead, but sounds like this one decided to get preachy, stereotype enforcing, and story was generic af.
Aww thank you Midnite! There's a lot of themes/undertones in this movie that I wish the creators took advantage of in order to not only breathe some fresh air into the superhero genre, but also restore some faith in the DCU. It's such a forgettable film that I wouldn't even recommend it as just a casual flick to turn your brain off too because EVERYTHING about it is generic. Who knew they got the beetle idea from the beetle in the mummy franchise. The bettle stole the show well movie. When they first made this movie, it came from left field. I can see they want to bring a new hero, but i guess they want to try something different

100% agreed. I'd love to rewrite this movie as less of a tired trope and more of a an origin-drama in all honesty because that's the parts that it sorta gets like 30% right.

A couple people have brought this up to me, but for others it's fine. Audio came through evenly on both speakers and my Razor headset before uploading. This was a tonal mess. One minute the latino family are joking around in the kitchen and the next we're watching a Cronenbergian body horror scene whilst the family continue to .ake jokes about this entity burrowing its way into their relative up on the ceiling. Bruh. 🤷♂️🤦

I was excited and genuinely wanted to enjoy Blue Beetle. However, his movie managed to insult a theatre full of people that are from and live in Latin America when the cast and director said that the movie was meant to empower and represent us. Using the most common stereotypes about a culture is not representation.
We used to have like Gloria Estefan, J Lo, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Eva Longoria as in Desperate Housewives for Latino American representation. Now we get a loud and chaotic illegal immigrant family blaming the white majority in America for their hard lives.
There was a time when I watched every superhero movie in the cinema. Movies were pure entertainment and fun. Nowadays they are bloated with lots of annoying Hollywood messages, "teach" and blame the audience at the same time. Wtf.
it's a little here Jaime callee Jay - me and not Hye - me. both are technically correct but I heard his name as Hye -me first. Also if your film has low entertainment value than it will diminish any social justice goals. If this is supposed to be indicative of how great a Latino led superhero can be and why more should be made, then I can't exactly say I'm interested. You need to have better writing and execution to draw people in and get them to see things from your perspective.

According to the critical race theory crowd, I can't relate to any character that doesn't accurately represent my exact demographics. Therefore, I can only enjoy characters that are straight white males. Sorry Blue Beetle, I didn't make the rules.
Love to see uncle rudy with a sweet ride when his brothers house is 3 payments behind on his mortgage when he lives under there roof. He could at least get 7 grand for the truck and pay the mortgage. Just sayen
TBF the line works in the context of the character, who is a massive conspiracy theory nut. But even then, it's so out of place and forced it that it's unnecessary.
Ok, this review is a little out of touch. I watched this movie with my family and we all thought it was pretty authentic. I saw aspects of my own family in this movie. Hell, even some of the things they say ive heard my relatives say. The movie plays music I listen to and the family says things ive heard my own family say. So I thought it was very authentic and not stereotyping at all. It becomes stereotyping when its done by people that are not hispanic but the director was and thats why it felt real. No hate ofc but I just feel like your takes are a little misguided.
Please don't listen to this terrible review. This movie is a must see and DC needed this W. It's not a 10 out of 10 but it's not bad. It's at least a 8/8.5 out of 10. Please go see the movie and make up your own decision. From a latino here the movie was hilariously accurate
I'm a bitch I cannot get to my other videos I need to watch because I can't stop watching your videos that you made! LOL that's a compliment by the way. Seriously though listening to you trash these movies that I hate for the same reason is fantastic and easily makes up for the lack of videos that the critical Drinker seems to no longer want to put out and also your videos are sometimes a lot shorter than the gay guy the little platoon and his videos which tend to be about three or four hours long LOL so it's a nice blend right in the middle right where I'm not needed, the G-Spot. But once again I just can't stop watching your videos. I just watch this movie about 2 weeks ago and I'm glad I'm white and that I'm not messican because I'd be extremely fucking pissed off over all of the pandering but also the right in your face straight up stereotyping oh, there was absolutely fucking nothing original in this shit movie that James Gunn at one time stoves was the beginning of the DCU and now that this movie has lost about 250 million dollars for Warner Brothers James Gunn no longer even knows anything about this illegal alien movie

Honestly I don't know much about Blue Beetle but this movie seems like it might be a hard pass for me. Its seems generic and paint by numbers origin story with messaging mixed in. Great review! As one of the few people who remembers the character for when I read comics a few decades ago, this one's a shame. The young actor seems fine, but the story feels very generic and on top of that, it's heavy on preachy identity politics like so many others. Also the entire DCU is up in the air, it's hard to get invested in something that's very unlikely to make the cut going forward. We don't need *more* representation, we need *better* representation. (And on that note, I'd love to see you do more collaborations with others like Critical Drinker and Little Platoon - it's nice to have your different kind of energy, it compliments the others beautifully!)

I'm not too familiar with Blue Beetle as a character, but with what was attempted, there's a VERY different road they could've taken which would've made this film not only a bigger success, but actually good. I really wanted to be proven wrong with this one.
