I used this stuff on my 1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500. I did try replacing the head gasket and had the head refurbished. It still was overheating and after a few oil changes the oil was still frothy. I had nothing to loose since the next step was a total rebuild or engine replacement and gave Blue Devil a try. I followed the directions and kept the car running with a fan in front of the radiator to keep from overheating. I swear, as the car ran it idled better and better, the steam from exhaust stopped. After multiple oil changes no more coolant in my oil and no more oil in my coolant. This was about 6 years ago. Of course this car is not a daily driver but I have driven it on a few weekend trips in steamy hot Florida with no head gasket leak at all. I highly recommend!

I did this to a 99 Ranger I purchased with a known bad head gasket but the truck was immaculate.I was prepared to just put a used motor in it.I saw this stuff at a Napa and thought id give it a try for $60.00.I followed instructions but actually used Prestone cleaner several times prior to the blue devil cleaner as the coolant system was pretty nasty. Also, instead of using the radiator drain I used pulling the lower radiator hose to get the heavy sediment out of system.Flushing/cleaning the system was the hardest part as I kept cleaning and flushing system with Prestone until water was clear AND THEN used the blue devil cleaner/sealer process.The whole cleaning process took me about 4 hours but I wanted to make sure I removed as much scale as possible.When I added in the blue devil sealer it did its job as promised. After that, I drove the truck lightly for about a month on short trips as to not put a bunch of stress on motor / coolant system.To this day the truck runs fine ! I don't know If I needed to do it the way I did but I figured If I wanted it to work I should give it as much help to do its job as possible.After the first month of driving lightly I used it as a regular truck like pulling a trailer and such.For the $60 gamble and effort put into cleaning the coolant system I can def.say it was well worth it.Sure beat putting a used motor in it for sure !!

Question for ya. I just had a coolant flush, new thermostat, and water pump, did you use the product with the coolant or water? I just purchased the big bottle and it says remove t-stat and remove coolant, and add water. Can't understand why I can't use the Blue Devil with fresh clean coolant... Thx
@robdaddy69
@robdaddy69 Год назад
@@splash5974 I think it depends if you got the regular or the professional grade. I used the professional grade and removed/altered thermostat and just siphoned the radiator with a hose, filled radiator with water about 80% put half a big bottle in it filled the rest the way and started and run the motor for 50min and it worked great. I also changed the oil afterwards because obviously you don't want any water in your oil. If you got the regular grade I think you can just put it in without removing the thermostat, I think that's the way i did in my Ford escort, although there wasn't much antifreeze in the system anyway, if you drain the coolant you can reuse after the fix. Btw my Cadillac still holding up and running well.

Man i did the pour n go a few months back and before that I did the flush too and worked fine for awhile and with the thermostat installed for the pour n go it busted my water pump one morning on my way to work and I let it drain completely and I got a new water pump and it’s worked fine since. That was with the pour n go in my system. And it left some white residue on my thermostat too it was crazy. I put a new thermostat on and new fluid and it ran fine and 3 days ago boom my temp started rising again. So I knew what it was. But before I should’ve let the car sit maybe a day or 2 days. To let it cure. But I followed instructions fine. It worked though. This time like I was saying a few days ago boom again. Now I’m doing the more advanced bottle yellow label bottle. I only used half the bottle for this because of my cooling capacity radiator it says. And removed my thermostat and I have like 20 mins left to run on idle and hoping this eel cause my problems to go away hahaha. But I’m investing into a new engine for my 2011 Corolla with 293k on the motor. So it’s had its day too. So maybe after it cools down I’m going to remove and drain. And put the thermostat on with new fluid run if for a day and drain to get the leftover blue devil in the system out and replace with new coolant. Hoping it doesn’t damage my water pump again. But this stuff works though. I think they should just have everyone use the yellow label bottle instead. Idk that’s just me though. Thanks cool video too sir👍

I also had the same blown water pump after using this. It was probably running for about 5 months with no leaks. I have a pretty serious head gasket problem that even a proper repair by a mechanic had the same failure and started overheating again and losing coolant. Now considering a used engine which I regret not doing because I got a great quote of 1000 installed. This is obviously a used engine. I ended up paying 1000 for the head gasket repair but I am guessing cracked Head. I may just try more stop leak, and sell the car, because it's a pretty old 2004 honda civic, that I am getting a little tired of.

They apparently sell a version that does not require you to remove thermostat and does not require there only to be water and not radiator fluid. In my case the instructions merely say to make sure there is room in the radiator to pour in the 16 oz bottle. There may be radiator fluid in the radiator. And you don't have to drain it afterwards. Shops are self preservation meaning they do what it takes to for you have the car fix by them for profit. Unless, the shop is honest and will recommend try additive first and see if that helps. Another way to check if no tail pipe smoke, etc is to use an endoscope and check which piston is like steam cleaned that would the cylinder that is blown other than coolant mix with Eng oil, bubbles to reservoir when hot etc

2 more symptoms of the head gasket leak (the one's I found) are 1) radiator cap purging, but car not over-heating and 2) heater not blowing heat when engine is warm.
@mikecurry6847
@mikecurry6847 2 года назад
Actually I just had one of these symptoms on a high mileage truck I recently bought. The overflow tank was filling up every time I ran it and if I didn't suction the coolant out and put it back into the radiator manually with a hand pump, it would eventually push out the overflow tank. I can smell exhaust in the coolant too. I looked around and I'm pretty sure the guy before me loaded up the parts cannon trying to figure this out because the water pump, radiator, thermostat housing, and all radiator hoses were basically brand new. Lesson learned, I'll always look for blown head gaskets on used trucks.
@bravosava
@bravosava 2 года назад
Heater works when engine is warm. If your heater is not working, most likely there is air in the system. If you start it cold with the radiator cap open, let it idle till engine is warm, put your heater on max, and rev the engine till the heat comes back. If its caused by air this works 100%

No, you’ll need to remove the upper radiator hose and pour directly into the system, after you remove the thermostat
@DDEENY
@DDEENY Год назад
I've used Bars Stop Leak to try to fix a blown head gasket. It failed miserably and gunked up the cooling system. The reason that I used the Bars is because unlike other stop leak products, its instructions noted that the thermostat didn't need to be removed, and that's a real issue for my 2003 Chevy Impala 3.6L because the thermostat is prohibitively located under a crossover pipe that needs to be removed to access the thermostat, otherwise it's a bitch to remove. And then it needs to be re-installed after the stop leak is added and circulated. That's GM's engineers, always thinking of us.
@PhillipsVision
@PhillipsVision Год назад
I’ve worked on that engine before, it’s hard to do anything. The problem with Bars is what you stated; it clogs up things and cakes up on the thermostat. Blue Devil does not use particles so it will not cause that.
@DDEENY
@DDEENY Год назад
@@PhillipsVision *UPDATE:* Last Saturday I used the K-Seal to stop the leak on my 2003 Impala's heater core and I'm delighted to report that it worked exactly as promised! It worked very fast, too, exactly as promised, within a few minutes. I removed some of the coolant from the radiator by drawing it out with a Prestone antifreeze tester to make room for the K-Seal and ran my engine to full operating temperature with the radiator cap removed BEFORE adding the K-Seal because I wanted to allow the thermostat to open as fully as possible so that the K-Seal could circulate uninhibited. Then I began to add the K-Seal but was only able to about 1/3 to 1/2 of the 8 oz. bottle to the radiator before it filled to the neck, so I added the remaining K-Seal to the coolant recovery tank. I put the radiator cap back on and continued to allow the car to idle with the heater turned on to max. hot temperature to give the best chance and so far it is apparent that the leak is fully repaired and hopefully permanent. Damn, I wish that I'd tried this on the 2003 Impala several years ago when it developed a blown head gasket leak that I suffered with and ended up replacing the engine for $1800 which was the best alternative. I'm unsure if K-Seal would work as well for a head gasket leak but it would be well-worth the try with a $13.24 bottle of K-Seal from Walmart. Thank you and thank K-Seal. *I highly recommend it.*

If you're in a hot climate like here in Arizona and leave a thermostat out then the water flows too quickly through the radiator to actually cool off before going back to the engine. The thermostat acts kind of like a restrictor to slow down the flow of coolant so it can stay in the radiator long enough to get completely cooled before going back in the engine.
