Mizu going to london will realize that the world is bigger than just japan and she isn't only one facing prejudices from the poor to slaves to other mixed race people.
I'm sure there will be other stops shown along the way before London. Hong Kong or Macau perhaps, but from there... yeah, the ports on the West African coastline seem a likely one.
I'm dying to see mizu with a nice and crisp suit, with the bangs and the androgyny and some cool glasses- *chefs kiss* imagine the attention Mizu gets!!
@@drea4pres970 Actually there is a history of women successfully disguising themselves as men during the victorian era for a better chance at survival. It wasn't revealed that they were actually women till after their death and they needed to be dressed for their coffin. Interesting history really, look it up.
@@jordanloux3883 She has to cover her waist & hips, I guess. With pants is more oblivious, but a jacket or some oversized clothes may help her hide better.
She can probably threaten to torture Fowler into teaching her along the way. Or manipulate him into teaching her the way she did with Heiji. Granted, Fowler's already proven a pretty good manipulator himself, though. It's a dangerous game for Mizu either way...
@@Gildete257they could do it like in the show Vikings, where if one race of the characters were to communicate with each other they would speak English to each other so that the audience would understand but in context they’re really speaking Icelandic. Then when they encounter someone like the English you would hear them actually speak their language to indicate to the audience of the language barrier between the races
I mean sailing from Japan to England isn’t exactly a day trip. She’s got plenty of time to learn English, and just so happens to have a narcissistic sociopathic Englishmen as her prisoner that she can force to be her teacher.
The state of her blue sword is a symbolic representation of the state of Mizu's soul. She needs to reforge herself anew before reforging her sword. With this in mind, her quest is not just about revenge. It also becomes a quest of self discovery. I think when she reconciles both sides of her heritage (the pure and impure metal) she will be able to reforge her soul.
As I grow older, I becoming more inlove with animes and cartoons than the live actions.Although it's not an anime, this animated series is enough for me. I love it.
Same. Not that I didn’t love animation when I was younger, but I’ve grow a much bigger appreciation for them as I’ve grown older. Especially when it’s a beautiful style like this show, paired with a compelling story (that would, arguably, not be possible in live action), it’s just amazing!
technically it is, given how in japan "Anime" is simply the word for "animation" or "cartoon" in japan, this would be considered to be as much anime as any other piece of animated work.
@@macro3751 Oh yes. Maybe, what I really mean is the style of the drawings similar to Disney's Mulan. Tbh, I prefer manga style drawings but I like the style of Blue Samurai as well. Some panelist also suggested to me that I should introduce it to 15 yrs old and above which is true because the characters on that manga that I'm making are too young to be sent to wars, marriage proposals etc. Amd there are lots of violence although it's our preislamic ancestors. Amd some of our old folks believe that their kingdom had sunk under the sea or somewhere in the philippine sea. I find it similar to Atlantis's doom's day.
As hyped as I am for Mizu story, I wonder what will happen to Taigen. I am scared he will become a drunk ronin. There were several ronin uprising and reforms that caused brutally repressed rebellions in Japan after the great fire and I worry Taigen may end up on the wrong side in them. Not to mention there is gonna be a Shakushain revolt in 15 years after the great fire.
I really hope he's hiding in the boat Mizu took because he was rejected by Akemi so maybe he tried to follow Mizu in the end, that would explain why we don't see him one last time, showing us what he's doing before the finale. We see Akemi again but not him, so I like to think that the reason is because he is hidden in the boat :p
I believe Skeffington could be a businessman, and Routely might serve as a politician in the British Republic. Fowler portrays both of them as morally questionable, likely due to their involvement in actions causing both direct and indirect harm in their respective roles. It would be intriguing to explore whether either Skeffington or Routely have knightly ancestry, and it could be quite thrilling for Mizu, a ronin, to engage in a duel with someone possessing combat skills and chivalry reminiscent of a medieval knight. Upon Mizu's arrival in London, a series of significant events is expected to unfold. In 1660, England underwent the restoration of the monarchy, heralding the return of Charles II as king (1660-1685) after the period of Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth. This historical shift also led to the reintegration of bishops into Parliament and the establishment of a strict Anglican orthodoxy. Following the monarchy's restoration, England witnessed several notable developments in the subsequent years, including the outbreak of the Great Plague, the eruption of the Second Dutch War, and the devastating Great Fire of London.
Now that you mention it, the first season took place in 1657, which is during the last three years of the Interregnum when Oliver Cromwell's Commonwealth ruled England. Because it will take time to reach England from Japan, Mizu could arrive when the Interregnum starts to end and might become involved in the restoration of the English monarchy. If she were to side with the royalists, a warrior of her caliber could be used to great effect. If it comes to that, she could earn Charles II's favor and gain knighthood. Wouldn't that be cool if she became both a samurai and a knight?
During this scene you can clearly see her japanese features. All throughout the show she looks like a Caucasian with blue eyes but here she actually looks half Japanese. She's so beautiful.
She might be shorter than most of the bulky men she topples, but she's tall for a Japanese woman. She still looks quite Japanese though... and agree with maxwellsope1080, she does look lovely.
@@alexwyman7048 She looks half japanese here in this specific scene at the end of the show. Throughout the whole show she doesn't look half japanese and looks more like a white girl with a sharp jawline. Ofcourse we are told that she is half japanese but my whole point was that she doesn't look half japanese except in this one scene. It's like when they cast keanu reeves as a half japanese in 47 ronin.
Just finished watching it, and I swear to god, if Netflix decides to discontinue this show like how they cancelled other decent series, I will forsaken their souls in to burning hell with mine with great fury.
London is going to be interesting for Mizu. Especially 1650’s London. This was a time in which the English still had that unique kind of European racism, where it’s not just white people who are superior, but English people in particular. It’s also difficult to say if Mizu will still need to hide her gender or race. Honestly, a mixed race Asian person could probably still pass as white given the right circumstances. Some white people just got really dark hair. As for her gender, I don’t know if she’ll be able to pass as a man for long in London. It’s obviously possible. She could just come across as very young or something. At the same time though, she doesn’t really know the gender roles in Europe, and especially in England where (compared to Japan at least) women had considerably more freedom. Obviously not a ton, but you get the point. If her race or gender is revealed, naturally, the other will get revealed as well. She will immediately become an oddity in England. One that many a showman will seek to commodify. Which might be a blessing and a curse. On one hand, she has access to literally anywhere she wants because she sort of becomes like a celebrity. On the other, the benefits of being perceived as a man or English, will be lost to her.
At this time exotic peoples were a rage in England. It isn't too far removed from the first colonies sending Natives to England to be observed. Though I imagine the biggest issue in the 17th century will be the religious wars. Europe is tearing itself apart in the middle of the 17th century with Protestant vs Catholic. And England itself just finished a Civil War only a decade ago. Depending on when she arrives is whether it's run by Puritans and Cromwell, or the Restoration and Charles II. So, either extremely boring, or party time.

They wanted to let her hair down flowing in the wind, but cg hair animation was out of their animation budget, so they borrowed her bangs model she had as a kid for this scene.
This scene is clearly a reference to the end of the fourth season of Game of Thrones When Arya takes the ship to Essos. I felt chills and happy that they were inspired by my favorite series. I hope they bring more references in the second season🤧❤️
She also can’t speak or read English. Where would she have learned it? The characters are speaking in English for our benefit, but in universe they are conversing in Japanese and I am sure that will be a plot point next season.
@@maddhatter222 What I'm curious about is, how are they going to make it make sense so the characters speak English while the whites also speak English and then mention "Oh yeah I dunno how to speak English, help me out." when they all sound the same to us because they all speak in English? Not sure if you understood but just wonderin'
I was thinking they would have the characters that are English speaking some sort of fake language when it shows Mizu is unable to understand them. We’d be seeing it from her perspective in that she wouldn’t be able to understand them.
I knew the magic word will be "London" and excited if there's season 2. but slithly annoyed that London has won once again. I live in Berlin and our christmas decorations are bigger and greater but internationals are in love with London's one. And some american show are tunning their next shows in London too. Its still popular to film in London and Paris than in other big european city. Am just jealous
It makes sense historically- it has nothing to do with popularity. Nobody cares about the image of a city being prettier and tbh- London IS much prettier than berlin..
I agree with you there, even though I am American (though I did my study abroad in Berlin and it's been my favorite European city ever since, so I feel you there too lol). Since the Dutch were the only Europeans allowed to trade with Japan in the 1600's (secretly, and with huge restrictions) it would've made more sense for the Europeans at those trading posts to be Dutch or even German (since most of Germany's Protestant states were allied with the Netherlands), and for Mizu to head to Amsterdam instead of London? I guess the writers just felt they had to go with Britain as Mizu's next destination, once they'd written Fowler as Irish (Ireland having been conquered by England during the 1500's). An English antagonist could still have been a realistic option if it was a visitor who crossed over from the Netherlands (which England was allied to/had extensive trade with for much of the 1600's), but the English actually chose to stop trading with Japan BEFORE the Shogun closed Japan off, because they weren't making any profit. Fowler being an Irishman would have made more a bit more sense if he was allied with Portugal or Spain, Catholic powers that largely opposed Protestant Britain and its' conquest of Catholic Ireland, and which Japan felt increasingly threatened by in the late 1500's early 1600's- though I guess it's never officially stated if Fowler is Catholic or Protestant. I liked Fowler as an antagonist, but his backstory was a bit harder to swallow. Still, always pleased to see an Irish character. All the same, I cant wait for a possible Season 2 XD.
Wasn't Berlin and the rest of the Holy Roman Empire still wrecked by the Thirty Years War in the 1650's? That conflict did end in 1648 and I am not sure, but I gather Germany took much longer than a few years to recover.
Yeah, Brandenburg-Prussia (of which Berlin was the capital) was only just emerging as a significant German state in the mid-1600's and didn't become a major power until the 1700's under Frederick the Great. In this time period, it would have been especially devastated by the aftermath of the 30 years war and the plague. German protestants were still often allied with the Dutch Republic though, so Germany isn't out of the realm of possibility.

"Swordfather" is superbly voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa with his compelling and unmistakable voice. Besides many other works, he is perhaps best known for his role as Shang Tsung in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie. He also reprises the same role in the Mortal Kombat 11 video game. I watched the complete story video for Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath solely because of his magnificent voice performance.
I hope Mizu and Taigen get together and I’m also wondering if Abijah whose pretty damn bad says Skeffington and the other where the worst of them just what the hell else are they up to (I’d also like to know more about Violet )
I'm not a historian, but I wonder how Mizu will be seen in London. Cause I've only recently found out that this is when Japan isolated itself from the world.
Probably the same way Pocahontas was, exotic curiosity. It really depends on who is in charge. If it's the Puritans under Cromwell will be different than if it's Charles II. Charles the II would be stoked and hold a party. But to be fair, he'd hold a party for many reasons.
I’m just going to say it, I love how Blue Eye Samurai portrayed the arranged marriage. Normally in anime, it’s always some snobbish load that only sees the girl as an object until the main character takes her back and profess their love for each other. In this one, Akemi was against the marriage after hearing rumors on Takayoshi being a horrible man. But when they do get married, we see that Takayoshi is actually a kind hearted man who suffers under his mother’s thumb. From there, Takayoshi and Akemi form a deep bond. And the ending of having Akemi stay with Takayoshi and him being happy is the icing on the cake. It’s actually quite refreshing.
I hope Mizu finds love again when she reaches the UK next season. Personally, I hope she falls in love with an Irishman who's about her age and is as funny and heartwarming as Jackie and Michael from Waking Ned Devine. Someone with that kind of temperament could help her come to terms with her European heritage.
Waking Ned Devine is such a great film! It always has me giggling every time I watch it from beginning to end. "Have we won, hon?" "No, but it got me apple tart brought in, now didn't it?"
It'd be interesting to see a different personality in an Irish character, after Fowler. Beyond his overdone personality, his character was a bit of a slap in the face to me, but one I very much needed (since I'm very attached to my own Irish ancestry and tend to have an overly-romanticized view of the Irish in history) and his development in the latter episodes was fascinating. Seeing an Irishman who has chosen a very different path toward dealing with the kind of oppression Fowler already clawed his way out of, would have tremendous impact on Mizu's worldview...
all this talk about Taigen getting together with Mizu - remember Taigen developed feelings/hard on for Mizu all this time thinking MIzu's a dude. There is a lot of complexity in there and I wonder how the writers are going to handle that part, assuming there are future series (and there better be). I bet once Taigen finds out Mizu's a chic, he'll prolly give up swords fighting and retire from the series as a lost soul.
That's if his pride doesn't get stung again, they way Mikio's was when Mizu kicked his ass. The fact that he's made peace with Mizu being a superior fighter than him is encouraging at least, though. Lotta ways Taigen's character could play out, I'm content to wait and see.
Am i the only one that would rather see the story continue in japan and not england ? We already have so many stories set in 1600s type England but so few in japan or asia . Also, this kinda leaves Taigen as a loose end character. He's lost everything. His woman, his honour and they set up a bit of sexual attraction between taigen and Mizu and he doest even know she a woman yet. He was attracted to mizu when she pinned him down unlike her former husband .
He's the only character whose location isn't shown at the end of the episode, so most fans think he's going to follow Mizu to London. Most likely next season will be split between London and Japan, so we'll get to see both
this is where Mizu learns how much the english sucked to the point fowler BECAME them to survive....even scots was frowned upon. The english tried to abolish every celtic language or informal dialect on the isles.
@@lagopusvulpuz1571 She also impaled him through both of his feet over the course of their battle. That should certainly slow him down a bit, even when she doesn't have a blade at his throat...
I don’t think one has been confirmed yet but I’ve heard the plan was to ultimately have four seasons. Hopefully it isn’t cancelled and we get to see the entire story.
Nothing concrete yet, the latest word is that the creators are pushing for it but Netflix is still assessing the viewership numbers before making a final decision.
I know Taigen definitely pulled a Gendry Waters move and stowed away on that ship (no I *don't* care if it's not canon, GOT ruined its characters and I decided to fix them so hush)
How did she get on a Western ship with this big guy as her captive, i know "its a cartoon" i feel like im missing a scene Guess she stumbled on Nagasaki with the dutch
I think he went willingly. His plan to take over Japan blew up in his face and there is still that pesky law about white people in Japan, so it's in his best interests to leave the country ASAP.
Think that's still a Japanese ship, even if it's bigger than the other ones shown. The Tokugawa shogunate started constructing larger ships with a more western influence in the early 1600's, when they still had slightly more open trade with not just the Dutch but the English- and Ieyasu, the first shogun, had an english advisor, William Adams. That was one nitpick I had about Fowler's plan, much as I loved the finale: there is NO way the shogunate would be stupid enough, not to already have guns of their own. Thanks to their prior trade with the Portuguese in the 1500's and eventually, producing their own, by the end of the "Warring States Period" in 1600, Japan had more firearms than any country in the world. Even after the sword-hunt and other weapon-regulation edicts, the Shogun still equipped multiple companies of his own military with guns (if you're ruling a feudal country by military decree, who in their right mind wouldn't?) right up to the 1800's. Even if the Japanese guns were more outdated than the flintlock muskets Fowler smuggled in, his plan to simply march one long column of riflemen into Edo at a walking pace, storming the fortified gates one by one from a single direction? Absurd, even if the shogunate DIDN'T have guns of their own in the castle. Having men on the inside to open the gates makes the threat real, yes, and the way Fowler smuggled the guns into the country was genius. But for someone who always had a strategy up his sleeve, his battle plan was suicide. No wonder his forces fell apart as soon as their commanders were gone. Sorry, didn't mean to rant or spoil (much). I've loved every episode of this series, the military historian in me just got annoyed by that scene.
it would be interesting if the next season focuses on the journey, she could stop by india, see what horrible shit the british are doing there, and see that her problems are bigger than just revenge. she needs to become more tactical and focused on justice, not just revenge
The "horrible shit the British are doing there" in the 1650s isn't that different from what Indian rulers are doing to their own subjects, or the Japanese shogunate is doing to the peasants. I don't think Mizu would magically come to see the East India Company as her enemy #1 just because it's hated by anti-colonialist historians in modern times.
IN the 1650's the English were one of many European powers trying to get trade with the Mughals. The British (Which technically weren't a full thing yet) didn't become the sole Europeans until the end of the French and Indian War. A century after this story, so other than the Dutch and English massacring each other while the Portuguese get in good with the Mughals I don't expect her to see much.
This is just my personal opinion but I think this show could have been just a little less straight if you get my meaning again just my opinion. (Please don't judge me)
They could have included a few LGBT characters, to be sure; your observation is a good one (though the creators said in an interview, they deliberately left it ambiguous to the possibility of Mizu being nonbinary for most of the first episode, so perhaps that at least hints at the possibility?).. Hopefully this will change in subsequent seasons, if they happen (and I'm fairly sure they will). It's still a masterpiece Imao.
I agree. The idea that the antagonist was able to beat up tep powerful ronin/samurai, (yes they both were hurt but killed several men at one time in battle), and that she would spare him and trust him enough to,travel to London to get revenge. How are they going to work when she gets to London with her captor? She'll be on his home field, and can't keep him a prisoner nor just walk around the city with a samurai sword waiting to exact revenge.
@@cck6740 So you said the likely reason(injuries) yourself but don't want to believe it anyway? Also, Taigen got in the way, Mizu would have hit Fowler in the head with the rifle if Taigen wasnt there. And yeah trusting your enemy is risky but what else can she do? This is London we are talking about, she doesnt know the place, or the language, or were to find anything. She does need him alive for now. I hope she eventually kills him though
