The title says "Blue Gasoline Tried To Kill Me" but in reality the blue die in the 100LL actually did its job and clearly showed you had a leaking fuel problem and likely SAVED your life. So you have solved the fuel pump problems (2) but you still have a leaking tip tank, correct ? "LIKE" button has been torqued to the manufacturer's recommended specification. "CLICK"

A family friend bought a new plane in the 70's from the manufacturer and suffered a dual fuel pump failure on the plane straight from the factory flying it home and crashed into a drainage ditch next to the road, and plane flipped over, his 2 passengers pulled him out but the plane caught on fire. The manufacturer gave him a new plane but still was the scariest flight he ever had.

As for your riddle; I seem to remember in the old days when they used to bury people they were afraid of them being buried alive, so they buried them, and installed a bell with a string or rope, tied to it going to the casket. That was just in case. The person who died was actually not dead, but alive. They then would ring the bell, and hopefully, the watchmen in the graveyard would hear it and dig them out before they died. Best I could come up with.

@@jerryv9138 Very true. I have a 42' sport fisherman and the bills to prove it. However, it will part company with me when I meet Jesus and not before. Boats are different in one major way than aircraft. An aircraft just takes you from A to B and then at B you are on your own. A boat also takes you from A to B but then at B you are already home. You crank op the generator, flip on the AC units, start the water maker and the ice maker and then pull up a fishing rod or don the SCUBA/snorkel gear. You occasionally hear the sound of the blender and the microwave in the background. Also, when something happens to my engines I don't fall out of the sky. That's a pretty major difference as well.

Ok, on a serious side, while my plane has an electric pump (the same one for a car is 80 bucks, for the plane, 600) and yours is engine driven, like my 65 Buick, I had the same mystery drip. It was the pump seal at the shaft. It seems when the fuel system was drained for another issue, that seal got to relax and wouldn't do it's job after pressure was put back on it. I could have easily changed it in 10 minutes but, noooooooo.... gotta do it all legal like and the guy charged me 550 bucks! I can hardly wait for my first annual and gear swing 😍. As for the riddle my only guess is they used to tie a string around your finger when you died that was attached to a bell. Iirc people would be very ill and sometimes be buried alive. So by pulling the string the person would pull the string to ring the bell and hopefully someone would hear it and be able to dig you up in time. My thought was someone was buried alive. In a panic the bell rang, until the rope broke making the bell stop and he died due to lack of oxygen.

Going back to the old days when the "dead ringer" slogan was born: they learned that not every person who was thought to be dead, was actually dead. The person was buried and came back to life. This was discovered upon exhuming some caskets and finding severe scratch marks on the inside of the lid caused by the person thought to be "dead", but who really wasn't. So, they began to bury people with a small pipe leading from the casket to above the ground. Inside the pipe was a rope attached to the supposedly deceased person's wrist or hand. The other end of the rope went up above the ground and was attached to a bell that was hanging from a hook. If the person should "wake up" they would panic of course and the movement of the arm would yank the rope and ring the bell, and the person assigned to keep watch at the cemetery would hear it and summon a team to immediately dig out and remove the casket and free the now very-much-alive person! This is where, as I said earlier, the slogan "dead ringer" came from. Apparently the person on watch would yell something like "we have a dead ringer" as he got the men together to begin digging. Did I just age myself here?

There is another answer to the riddle.....it goes back many many years to when ppl were buried, a string or rope would be attached to their toes or fingers and to a bell placed topside. This was so that if the ppl were buried alive, then they could ring the bell and be dug up and let free, but someone was employed to sit in the graveyard at night to listen for the bell/s (hence the shiftworkers late night shift being called "the graveyard shift). So, if the rope/string broke for any reason, the person died

I’m guessing it has something to do with where we got the term Dead ringer. They used to bury people with a string tied to their wrist. This rope was attached to a bell near the grave stone. If you were buried asleep instead of dead, you could ring the bell. A person would stay at the grave sight all night to listen for ringing bells.

hey jimmy, that switch looks just like the ones I replace regularly in my job. I am an Electronics Technician working in food packaging, processing and prep. Anyhow the switch looks dirty, polluted. Generally loose mounts are a common problem for those so locktite blue and inside star lock washers helps to end those problems. During install they need to be clean and degreased. another thing is they are not sealed against fluids. water is the worst thing getting in, oil is the next worse. They come in a larger size, some of those can be had with seals. The big unsealed ones are easily defeated by coffee dust in packagung plants. I imagine the little unsealed ones, like you showed would also fail from dust. anyway, I enjoy yoir aviation videos, cheers! Me? yeah, that lake la4 is mine....

Riddle: A rope breaks a bell rings and a man dies, what happened? Answer: The bell is attached to a buoy at the beach, the rope breaks and the bouy floats out to sea, the man is blind and uses the bouy to tell where the ocean is, he is atop the cliffs and the bell rings so he thinks it is farther out at sea and he walks right off the edge of the cliff. Could also be a variant on #1.75 (as suggested by Mike Neergaard): the bell-cord breaks when he falls (and there's no second bell involved). 1.75a variant answer: The man is a boxer. The first bell signals the start of a round; the second is either the end of the round or a funeral bell after he dies during the match.

My first guess was bad fuel had damaged a seal or gasket somewhere in the fuel system, making me worried when you put that fuel right into another aircraft without doing a check on contamination first. Was right about at least the second part of it being a bad seal or gasket :)

I'll second that! Bad practice to fuel that was previously in another airplane without a proper storage and filtration system.

Hey Jimmy, love your videos, I watch all of them. Here’s something you may be interested in, a battery powered transfer pump. Uses two d cell batteries and pumps about 2.5 gallons per minute. Cost about $15 .

I had the same thing as you had. I fly a LAKE LA-4-200 and the electric boost pump failed to send fuel to the head. Replaced it and found one of the fittings was dripping fuel into the cargo hold. Seems the previous owner had used the incorrect fitting. It has probably been leaking since he had it installed. My fuel tank is in the back of the fuselage and could have been catastrophic disaster. Always inspect for Blue fuel.

"A rope breaks, a bell rings and a man dies" a blind man walks to the cliffs everyday using the bell on a floating buoy to judge his distance from the edge. One day the rope holding the buoy in place snaps, the buoy drifts, the man hears the bell farther off in the distance and walks off the edge to his death. Well I didn't know you were going to give the answer at the end. This is an old time riddle heard it years ago

I have never heard it before but it sounds like the rope broke that was holding up a bell it landed on a man and straight out looney toons the bell rings

The rope attached an anchor to a buoy. A blind man walking near the edge of a cliff used the bell from the buoy to gauge how close he was to the edge. When the rope breaks the buoy drifts out to sea and the man walked over the edge of the cliff and dies.

I actually feather the propeller and shut off the engine to make sure it feathers and unfeathers and restarts and runs good, you never know if the pins stick

The man was ringing the bell in a bell tower. the rope broke, he fell to his death, but the bill had enough momentum to still ring.

Your riddle : A blind man enjoys walking near a cliff, and uses the sound of a buoy to gauge his distance from the edge. One day the buoy's anchor rope breaks, allowing the buoy to drift away from the shore, and the man walks over the edge of the cliff. there are different variants

Better story....Quasimodo is hanging on the rope to a bell at Notre Dame...the 200 year old rope breaks. The bell still swings and the bell rings....Quasimodo dies in the fall to the bottom of the bell tower! Bingo!
