I struggled with a round bolt for a day, then discovered this tool. I bought a kit and I was finally able to to remove the bolt... It's an amazing tool!

It's really great that your company lets you use stuff after work. The only thing I would be worried about is some minor job going horribly wrong and then you are stuck for transport to get home and the additional hassle of fixing on the premises. Like I said, a good outfit that goes a long way to promote some sort of harmony with the staff. I think a car mechanic from a main dealer would be surprised at the amount of heavy work and pressure involved in truck maintenance. I hope your pay packet reflects this. As usual great video, and respect the time it must take to put together.

We don't get paid what we are worth but everyone says that. Workshop lets us use the ramp but e still have to sign some official forms in order to do what we do....

I fought off and on for a few days with a defender alloy locking wheel nut, eventually drilled a small hole down side of nut and used chisel to hammer the nut off, was a fight from start to finish, tried all sorts including welding,. Have put normal nuts all round round now, hoping people take defenders not just the wheels lol 👍🏻👍🏻

I have a set of these type of sockets by Laser. I haven't had a great deal of success with them myself tbh - in fact in my own situation of desperation I managed to strip the teeth of one on the ball joint bracket to axle bolts on my LR. Though I think it may be my particular set, as they have a completely different tooth design to the ones you show here that I'm not very convinced by. I shall have to give this Blue Spot set a go, they look like their design will do a much better job than mine!

A little bit of heat does help as well when trying to remove bolts. I've got an arsenal of nut splitters, vibration tools and hot spanners to help but even then as you have seen in the video, someone can come along with a chisel and get success straight away.

@@trailerfitter2 Yeah I’ve been there many times too! - a strange emotional mix of gratitude, relief and envy lol I’m my case, welding a larger nut on was the answer. As well as giving something better to grip on of course, as you say, I believe the heat went the largest way into getting the stubborn sods to yield haha

Well done Cobby hammer and punch / chisel back to basics old knowledge Think I will invest in a set of Irwin's for a few quid more

If in doubt,... A chisel is an option. I was going to drill the damn thing out as the final resort but Cobby took the opportunity to get the medal for that one.

Buy some Tom, you will be pleased you did, they will sit gathering dust but one day when all else fails you will remember you have them and you will be so grateful

Bought the Irwin set for my boy's Corsa which had the same issue as yours. I can normally wring something off, but they didn't need much effort. The rust had placed the nuts into no mans land for sizing purposes. Would also recommend them :)

They've always been a 'godsend' at the right times. We had to remove a set of batteries but all the clampdown threaded rod snapped off when we took the clamp off. Those did short work of getting the stubs out of the carrier base.

New to welding, only stuck a couple of bits of scrap together so far. Pleased I watched this, I would have disconnected the battery but wouldn't have known to disconnect the alternator. Cheers

I have the Irwin set and had a similar experience with a Peugeot 307 set of locking wheel buts belongs to a mates wife a few years ago. Was a right pain in the backside. After that experience I bought myself a master set of sockets for the locking wheel nuts. Was about £80 have used it a few times since and it’s paid for itself!

Good call. That is an expense I could do without but if they are needed then you need to buy them.

Wheel bolts can be a bastard at the best of times always get over tighten double whammy when they are security time👍🇬🇧

Probably know but smear copper grease around the alloy wheel, saves lacquer and paint from the welding sparks, wash and brake clean of after you've shown everyone the sorry looking lock stud 😄

Heat from the welder probably helped things along

Here is a question. I have always taken the locking nuts off. What would my insurance say if car was damaged when someone was stealing the wheels .
