all of them are good for gaming imo (tested all 3 swiches well 4 if you count black, and they all work but when you play for hours nonstop red is the best)
Exanimalus all cherry mx and cherry mx knock off switches are trash except gateron reds they are smooth there is so many better switches out there honestly cherry is trash
PinnySkenis Depends some box switches are identical to Cherry MX switches but in my opinion are slightly better. Zealios v2 are INCREDIBLE as their tactile feedback is immense. All these switches make Cherry MX switches look like a mediocre switch in my opinion. They are not trash just there are better switches for the same price.
@@basedneutral1173 Just because most membrane keyboards suck does not mean they all do. Type on a 45 dollar logitech g213 sometime, for me I am faster on it and get overall better feedback than I get from mechanical boards. I am typing on a blue switch at the moment by the way.

Ive watched way too many videos about about mechanical keyboards lately, but this guy has given by far the best description between the cherry blue, brown and red. None of the big time RU-vid channels did as good a job as he did. Great job.
I wanted to make another comment so.... Get Red - if you want quieter keys, they will sound loud if you are not used to typing on a mechanical keyboard and so you'll probably end up smashing down on your keys for like the first week 😂 just relax flutter your fingers, and soon you'll feel like your typing on clouds Get Blue - if you like to type on keys that are straight away responsive, and that you can instantly realize when you clicked a key and just how much force it takes to click. Warning it is loud even if you softly press it down, u will hear a click Everytime if you bottom the key out. Again u can probably reduce the noise if you just apply less force. Get Brown - if you want a solid responsiveness from the key, but there is a "quiter click", it isn't really a click it's the key just bottoming out. So brown is a literal mix of red and blue but it leans more towards feeling like red with a bit of the responsiveness of a blue. Again mechanical keys will feel weird if you've never used them especially coming from a regular membrane keyboard (the keyboards u buy from Walmart Target for $10, like Logitech, etc). Hope this helps....
way too long.. here is simple : Blue: They make click sound along with the bump.. require more force to click on. You know you pressed a key when you hear that click or feel that bump. (my least favourite, annoyingly loud worse for gaming) Red: Just remove click sound and bump from Blue. This is the lightest to press requiring the least force. (my favourite, also best keys if you wanna make your keys sound thocky, best for gaming/work or office) Brown: Just remove click sound but bump feels lighter and you need less force to press the key than blues but tiny beat more force than Red's (My second fav semi gaming semi work/office) Finally, both reds and brown have no click sound and they almost sound similar (95% similar)
I have watched a bazillion 'switch' videos and this is probably the best in terms of practicality and how it works in the real world. So many of these videos talk about scratchiness, smoothness, gaming and the sensation but very few have articulated what it feels like to use these on a daily basis and how it impacts fatigue. Well done!
The "Blue" switches works for me just fine. I really like how clicky it feels to both your fingers as well as ear. If you really want to feel the difference between membrane and mechanical keyboard go for the blue(clicky and loud) or brown (deep sound )switches.
I love Reds, feels like I'm floating about the clouds. Once you get used to it, you don't have to bottom out every single key-strokes anymore, and trust me it will make you feel like a wizard.
@@zsnipe_ ive been using blues for 2 years and trust me when i say to get reds. Almost everyone i play with complains about my keyboard and how loud it is. Reds are a lot better. Ive used them at my cousins house before and they are so much better.
That's for sharing your mind, i have blue switches, and i agree about feedback, it's really doing you more confident when you feel feedback, when i trying to print on membrane keyboard, my fingers get tired quickly (because i have to push keys all the way (or to the end)), thanks for the video, i have really enjoyed
So what I'm essentially getting out of this is that the red and blue are complete opposites and the brown is kind of the median, leaning a little more towards the red switches.
Thank you! Some people just don't know when to shut the fuck up when testing shit. Nobody wants to know your opinion. People just want to know the results!
This dude explains perfectly and very detailed, I finally found the one video that explains everything i needed thanks a lot man, keep up the great content!
It depends on how much you like the noise. I've found that I like the Reds better. I love the industrial snap of the Blues but during long typing sessions I find it almost painful by the end. Personal opinion, of course.
@@EricDongh2p so dumb bro.....ii need to use headphones to not hear the awful clicky sound of my keyboard? seriously? It's your smart and best solution?cmon....that freaky blues are for the selfish people...if you live alone it's perfect but for your home with family or in the office it's a big problem for the others...ohhh i know i need to buy another 10 headphones for all the members of my family/office!!!!
Thanks for this. I'm new to buying proper keyboards and this was just what I needed to make my final call. I especially found the "wakes up the baby" measurement of sound intensity to be a better scale than the decibel standard :)
this is the best switch review he's not doing asmr typing to where every thing sounds louder that they actually are and it sounds just like they would actually sound when you have it.
I love brown switches, the tactile bump is way more important than it seems. It really does help a ton when typing, as my hands are less tired and it's much easier to register typos. And they're as good in gaming as red switches. I used to love red switches too, but after switching to brown ones I can't imagine myself ever going back to red. I think that brown ones are the safest beginners choice when it comes to mechanical keyboards. Even though I had tons of them I still love browns the most.
Man you should write a novel. If you are this good at describing the subtle differences between keyboard clicks just imagine what you could achieve if you had to describe characters, settings and landscapes.
I like the red switches because you can make very minute movements in games when using wasd. I got my logitech keyboard with the red switches because I was tired of fighting with the web on my old keyboard trying to move my character a tiny amount.
Blue; most satisfying typing experience. Red sound like missing something. Less kick with the touch. Brown is alot better than red & have better clicking feel. Agree to blue as the best feel of them all.
@@dizzynu5698 well I have a red and a blue and I use both, since I'm more used to the blue I prefer using that but after a certain time I start using the red one, like some people like louder keyboards or the sounds of the switches, I like the sound of the blue one that's only reason I use it
I've had a Red Mechanical keyboard for years, I don't exactly agree with the whole "fatigue" thing, I've never ever experienced any sort of fatigue from typing, and I've typed a lot especially while gaming and playing World of Warcraft. The specific keyboard ive used is the Corsair Vengeance K Keyboard I believe it's called, (looks like the red one in the video). I also don't feel that you have to "push down all the way to know you've clicked the key" you can type and put just a slight amount of force with your fingers while you type, some people just tend to use a lot of force while they type like they are playing a very weighted piano (key) just type like a normal person, u don't need to Hulk smash your keys. Get a red if you want quite keys, u should be able to tell the force needed to register it's really not that complicated, one last thing I'm not trying to be a dick, I think his opinions were fantastic, and I would agree with most of his points I just don't think the fatigue is that accurate in my experience.
Yeah, that comment will be really useful to people watching this video! And yes, I try to emphasize that these are MY PERSONAL opinions and experiences. In my experience my finger just fly a million miles an hour without fail on blues and browns, and with reds I struggle. But there are tons of people out there who love reds! So in the end I really reccommend that people get some hands on with different types of switches if they can before purchasing, and hopefully this video will get them going in the right direction based on their own opinions. And no, I don't think you are trying to put me down, that was a really helpful and insightful comment!
I used a keyboard on a laptop for about a year and then went back to a membrane keyboard on a desktop. My hands got tired so fast for about a day or two until I got used to it, again! The fatigue thing is real :P
I wish I found this before I bought RK68 red switches. I used to type using Razer's green switches (which equivalents to blue) and the small bump you mentioned doesn't exist in red switches so typing doesn't feel tactile and actually feels like I'm using a membrane keyboard. Also, the switch is too touch sensitive that resting my fingers on the keyboard causes it to click random letters or the spacebar even (especially in game) and I've been mistyping a lot ever since I started using red switches and I'm thinking of getting a brown one to get that tactile feel again.
@@amelm2788 No such thing as best. Red is fast but fast can be a problem too. If you are a gamer(which I am) red is To sensitive, I made mistakes in millisecond fights that got me killed. Red for typing is also a problem until you relearn the feel of it. Typo city. Brown is a little more forgiving, in the sense that a misplaced fumble finger wont register and cause a trainwreck. Red for a robot. Brown for the rest of us ham handers.
blue switch - most common - most popular - kinda noisy, only downside - clicky - 4mm travel distance - you can feel when it actuates - physically feel when the click happens red switches - feels better than a membrane keyboard - much more silent - cannot feel where it actuates, no click - smash them all the way down - you dont know when the keys register - more fatigue in hands brown switch - small, subtle difference than red - tactical (?) - feel the click, but slight (tiny)
Me: Using my new blue switch mechanical keyboard in my office. Keyboard: Clack, CLAckity CLACK Everyone else: ..................................... IK its not dats funny...
Huh, thank you got the straightforward and concise comparison! I'm looking for my first mechanical keyboard but it's fairly difficult to choose with so many options combined with personal preferences! The side by side comparison was great with your explanation of personal experience. I was thinking brown switches as a kind of middle ground would be the best choice for me, and this confirmed my suspicions. Thanks for helping me navigate this field a little better :)
I don't even have a baby but I feel like I know what you're saying. Lol Team blue for me becuase it makes my essays feel like I actually did something.
One of the few to clearly describe the differences between switches. It’s surprising how little keyboard review videos talk about the switches, other than to say what color it is on the one they are reviewing.
Basil no but from some people I hear they are better but also cheaper. I personally really like the Kailh Box Royal switches because they have a very sharp bump.
red is for gaming thats why its not register because in gameing excendat key press is not good , and blue is for typing and for typing it should by type if u press half and brown is in middle of both but blue sound is realy good
@antonio santuy It feels WAY less mushy and is much more satisfying and better feeling to game on. They are also way more durable, and have less delay.
Thank you. Pretty sure you helped me make my decision. I want the blues cause I love the "click" but I think over time it may get a bit too much, so Browns it is.
@@stefxy682 oh man. This was the beginning of my keyboard journey. I've come a long way since and have dug way too deep down the rabbit hole 😅. Answer to ur question, yes I did end up getting browns. They're chill for a first decent mechanical board. When it comes to tactiles they really are the middle of the ground as far as how tactile they actually are when compared to other switches in the sane category. I'm using linears now - durock lavanders lubed with krytox 205g0. My next tactile switches are going to be between boba u4t or c3equalz kiwis. I have some linear c3equalz tangerines for my Space65 whenever I get it. I'll say after now having tried more switches I do tend to gravitate towards linears.
I just bought my first mechanical keyboard yesterday, hama uRage Exodus 800, love those blue switches, exactly as you described them. My typing and gaming got better just over day, thanks to those blue switches.
Yes someone else that likes the blue switches I got the razer huntsman mini with blue switches 2 days ago and all my friends think I should of got the red ones but I'm glad somebody else likes the blue switches
To add, if you like reds but have issues with bottoming out often when you don't want to(they are very easy to press), you may benefit from Cherry MX Black. It starts off easy to press, but then kind of requires more force as you push down. Completely linear switch, no tactile bump. My favorite switch of them all.
@Jesus is LORD “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. " Hebrews 11:6 Just saying.
This guy uses genuine opinion instead of thinking about what others might think, and that actually is better because a person's own opinion is better then what others might think.Matt also is grateful - in the beginning he said he was blessed for all of the keyboards. I'm 100% going to subscribe
Got red switches for my first mechanical keyboard and I honestly can't imagine myself liking the other ones more. I absolutely hate the noise the blue switches make so that was an instant pass for me, I just really, REALLY love how smooth these red switches feel
@Farrel Rafi I wouldn't know if it's "better" or anything but I have absolutely no complaints about them at all. Still love them a lot, they are very responsive since I don't have to press the key all the way down in order for it to register. The linearity of each keystroke is really nice
@@farrel_ra actually they don't help you but they help you to use the WASD key or any key with peace without any single distraction of feel or sound.. and you'll win when it comes to activate force travel distance
I don't know much about Mechanical keyboards. Just by popular rumors wanted to go Red but it was out of stock and now Brown is coming. Hope I won't be disappointed or something. So far I was mostly fan of Membrane keyboards. For some reason I see the Brown as a combination of Red/Blue and given that, I should be more than fine.
If you live with other people I suggest to go with brown especially if you are working at night but blues are fine too their just louder and if your gonna blind type then never go with red
Thank you so much! This is one of the best reviews I have seen so far. 8 minutes of useful information and I know exactly what I need. Got the blue switches one. Love it but wanted to try something else. After this vid I understand there's no need haha) Thank you once again!
I grew up with blue. I love the fast and respnsiveness of blue. Now my new keyboard is red swift tactile. Its more quieter but Its not as crisp and fast as blue. Hopefully I will grow on red as I fell in love with blue.
I used to have red switches and they were great. But I switched to blue switches and they are so much better, so clicky and they feel so real, I love the sound too. It really feels that you're actually typing.
I hope you're not joking and not one of those cringe pretenders, but if you're not, then cool. Like any you want. Its your choice and i respect it. Ignore those lusty bots who kept sending death threats over your preference, have a good day man
nah man i didnt joking, i been using blue switch keyboard for 3 years now, i choose blue switch with the reason though, it cool that you didnt were that type of person who keep telling people to try out linear one.@@basedneutral1173 thanks man.
I have tried these keyboards in my local electronics shop, but none of them come close to the IBM Model M buckling spring keyboard which I have. The response and snappiness of the Model M keyboard simply cannot be beaten.
Im kind of reluctant on blues because I feel like it would be annoying to people in my house but honestly i think they might feel the best to use for typing and for games. If you do a surface search people say brown is best (and that was what i got) because it feels good but it is quiet however if you search any deeper people say they feel like sandy reds.
i ordered my new hot swappable keyboard (my first mechanical keyboard) it comes with red switches and i bought some blue switches for the numbers (so basically the whole keyboard is linear, but all of the numbers are clicky) and now im just watching keyboard videos till it arrives
