Holy crap this is absolutely AMAZING, the fidelity is just unreal, I love it. I can't believe how good it sounds, feels like I'm watching the movie again.
In 1983 Blue Thunder landed successfully in cinemas, starring Roy Scheider, the infamous hero of Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” (1975) during a time when action movies were becoming something special and really enjoyable with actors like Schwarzenegger or Stallone. However, “Blue Thunder” has less face-to-face combats, but contains an interesting storyline and impressive helicopter scenes and dogfights. To tell you something about the score, I will let director John Badham take the word, as I think one couldn’t have said it better: “In his score, Rubinstein has utilized the synthesizer in a truly symphonic manner, both alone and with brass, percussion and string ensembles. The Synclavier II, a digital computer instrument is combined and layered with both the Jupiter, The Prophet and the Moog analog synthesizers. In addition, a most unusual sound was created by placing a microphone inside a very large empty water bottle underneath a Steinway grand piano. If this record were played backwards, the listener will hear secret encoded messages of a sensitive nature (just kidding).” Enjoy!
Arthur B. Rubinstein, was the right man, in the right place, at the right time. When it came to choosing the composer for the 1983 movie Blue Thunder. R.I.P. Authur, thanks for the music.
One of my favourites of its era: A not too unrealistic amalgam of 70ies conspiracy thriller and 80ies technology inspired action. Add some breathtaking helicopter stunts, superb acting by Scheider, Oates and McDowell and Rubinstein's adequately synth-riddled score and you're in for one of the most thrilling flights in movie history. "Catch you later!"
Watched the movie with approx 7 yrs of age the first time and not understand it... my uncle then said "wait a few yrs" ... and hell boy he was right. this movie is older then myself but its one of my favs for sure.
Wish I could have been there, but I was only five years old at the time. I had to catch it on TV a while later and I never forgot it. Perfect casting and a great score.

It's a brilliant score. Top track or one of them is "Adios JAFO". And there's that moment in River Chase Hide & Seek, 13.05, "come on you tub of shit!" Underrated score really.
Just LOVE this film always have since a kid it just stuck with me - the sound track was Outstanding Like the A-Team - Airwolf and Nightrider all amazing music that as a kid made you want to be them! -- I would have loved to meet Roy Scheider RIP
One of the very first soundtrack LP's I owned, having to go to a specialist music shop in London to buy the US import. I recall having three LP's wearing out my record player - Blue Thunder, Star Trek II, and Conan the Barbarian
This movie clearly showed how close the cooperation was between Holywood and the US military. The Blue Thunder helicopter resembled the Apache helicopter ( which was operational 7 years later during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm) perfectly (except: for the landing-gear),
The Blue Thunder was actually a french helicopter : a Gazelle SA-341G the production modified in order to look more like an Apache. They didn't want to use an american model because they were afraid the companies might not approve the themes of the movie and the way it portrays the "future" use of helicopters.
At that time my father showed two VHS cassettes, The Blue Eye and Atomic Dog I was 12 and still remember 2 Songs i disliked,the Chopper airfight scene and,uhm,The treasure hunt with the white papers at the crime scene at night

In the year 1983 this movie was not so much high tech and very authentic! I guess this movie 'Blue Thunder' inspired makers of the tv series 'Airwolf' ;-)!
