@@Beefinator Relax, nobody said they were better than anybody. Since y’all don’t put times on stuff y’all point out I basically said to put the times so relax and get out yo feelings😂
He pretty much did nothing since they are all professionals, but the cues are amazing, you haters back off you couldn't conduct that show if you tried for half a year.
Ever since Willie Venstra of the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Bluecoats, I LOVE how him and Samuel Crawford, instead of just keeping straight time and standing like a statue up there on the podium like so many others, really tap into the grooviness of BC's shows! Willie and Sam really get into it and truly add something to the show with the creative and enhancing cues and body movements. Can't wait to see Sam back again in the 2017 season!
I think he means in relevance to everyone else. The only other drum majors that I've noticed that get that much into their show and move while doing so is probably the Phantom Regiment. Dean Patterson specifically.
I mean you don't want too much of that. Dean Patterson levels of movement might be one thing in a concert setting, but as someone on the field, I prefer just straight time. If you can do both, great, but moving around and breaking from the pattern can get in the way of showing good time to the ensemble. I've never been on the other side of either of these conductors, so I can't speak to the readability, but still. I'm wary of that kind of performance in marching music.
OMG I remember meeting you at the Houston show! I just want to thank you for taking the time to sign my drum major gloves! I wore them for my first football game for good luck :) You're awesome!
Hey Sam you're awesome, you are practically my idol! I love the bluecoats. I am an eight grade trumpet player but my school lets 8th graders march. you may not reply, but hopefully you will read this and small.
I absolutely love the way you conduct... your truly an incredible drum major! This reminds me when I was the drum major for my high school marching band. Keep up the great work my friend. Will us Bluecoats fans expect to see you again next season?
Awesome! The drum major in my band watched this and now she does a lot of the things you do, like duts, funny comments, and nodding her head. It's pretty funny because I used to march cymbals and I thought the DM just flapped her arms around, but now that I'm in the front ensemble, and watching this, it's a lot more than that and crazy demanding. Great job!
It's great to see how far you've come, Sam. It's a bit overwhelming to think that I've performed under you in 2012. Keep on being great! Take care and God bless.
Your conducting is truly one of the best! I've tried out from Drum Major here at my High school twice but didn't make it although it being my senior year I'm not giving up and can't wait for Tryouts for Drum Corp. I'm learning more and more and your conducting inspires me!
This is one of my favorite shows, and it's amazing to watch from a drum major's perspective! I'm a freshman trumpet player in california and the closest drum corps is either SCVC or BDB so I will try to join one of them, but I want to join Bluecoats for an A corps
This was really educational to watch and I wish this type of thing existed for Crown's shows. I would love to be a drum major since that's pretty much my only way of getting into drum corps. I'm a flute player and I'm aging out in 2 years so I'm running out of time.
mistakestolove the six words are “Be the best you can be” which is the Bluecoats’ motto and then they cheer themselves on by adding on “let’s go bluuueeee”
Titan Gameplay some bands are junior high until senior in high-school. i got drum major and i’m 9th grade. for instance, i’ve been marching sense i was in the sixth grade.
I'm a freshman right now and I'm starting on quads soon and plan on being a drum major, but the music theory class is a mystery to me, so what should I learn?
Around 7:48 is kind of my favorite part! His conducting also reminds me of how I conduct! There are so many great elements to this. The only downside (lol) is that there are less people in the front ensemble. I like the setup, but I think we need to quit reducing the amount of people in the pit!
Hey Sam Im a Junior and Im auditioning for Drum Major since its been my goal since My Freshman but I didnt get the spot this year because of circumstances but Im hoping to get it next year do you have any tips?
Hey Paul I was wondering if you got any tips on being drum major I'm auditioning next year at the end of my softmore year but I'm right now in my first year ever in band as a freshman but have been really determined and got stuff done any pro tips?
Hey Sam, what was the feeling like on the field during retreat seeing and hearing the crowd and then what was your reaction when you realized you won and seeing the crowd go nuts?
Hi Samuel! I love you guys so much and this video is amazing! So I was thinking about auditioning for one of the three open dm spots at my school, but no one in the grade I'm going into has ever been a drum major before- in school history... Do you have any advice for someone in my situation?
Tess R. I'm no sam, but I can say you should try out. You can learn from the process and even if you don't make it, you'll be more prepared for next year! Good luck!
I love your band. I go to rim on and hope to be drum major some year. if you have any tips on how to memorize bpm that would be great. keep up the good work. I love your show
Samuel Crawford thank you for the advice. I am not drum major yet, I play the flute right now but I hope that when I get to be upper a upperclassman I can be. were a Tucson band so I can only imagine how different it is.
Hey, I have a question. I've been thinking of trying out for one of 2 available drum major positions next year for our HS Marching Band, but am torn between marching or trying out, because I am a solid saxophone player. I will be going off on Saturday to try out for The Missouri All-State Band on my alto for concert and tenor on jazz. What do you think I should do?
TheQuirkyMusician I was in the exact same position (but not going to state and such) but I ended up auditioning for dm and earned it. I figured I might as well make more solid playing saxes for the time once Im gone :j
Can someone help me and tell me his pattern... I think I have it wrong (If you don't even know that much about conducting then you could still help :) thanks)
Joseph Marsh it's really not comparable to marching, but you do get to experience and express the music in a different way when you conduct. it sort of just flows out through your hands instead of your feet
