As a fellow bass clef player I highly respect people who march tuba over sousaphone it looks very hard and taxing on a person, I don’t play a brass instrument though 😅
How heavy are marching tubas, I’m going to start marching a Sousa and going into dci after. edit: I started 2 days ago on pvc Sousa. My shoulders hurt a lot. It’s like 20 pounds still
the contras we use at my school are 35 pounds but dcis tubas are primarily in between 20 and 30. The heavier sousas like the ones in the ohio state can be as heavy as 100 pounds so it truly varies where you march
I play quads, and the weight of your instrument shouldn’t steer you away from marching. Your body will build muscle and it’ll get better each time. My quads are 40 pounds and now that it’s late marching band season, they feel like nothing. Ngl I was in terrible pain during band camp but I’m chilling now
Bluecoats use pretty light Yamahas that are designed with keeping weight down in mind. I've been told they're a little less than 20 pounds but there are contras out there that can be 30+
