I agree with you but when this is played backfield in Lucas Oil Stadium it bounces the sound off the seats and the dome. It produces a haunting sound you won't hear anywhere else except another domed stadium.
Wesley Winterhalter could you imagine the slow then and that wall of sound kicks you in the chest? Crowd reaction would be nuts, I'm not sure if the corps could keep their emotions in line. I'd 100% be tearing up if I were in their position...either way what happens this ballad is on another level
Only in marching bands/drum corps do you get this sort of goosebump-inducing orchestral arrangement. Never would a symphonic orchestra be able to play it this well, because the performers lack the intensity of practicing for months on end to deliver one hell of a show at a championship, intensity that we can feel through every lingering note of the hornline, every confident hit of the drums, every spin and pitch of the guardline, every fill of the pit/percs and every measure count of the drum major. Continue being awesome, Bloos.
Attention Bluecoats: Please bring this back soon and instead of playing to nobody in the back left sideline, bring it front and center on the near sideline. On behalf of the many thousands of your fans who agree with me, thank you. :)
I think the problem was that the euph wasn't nearly close enough to a marching euph. The soloist unfortunately sounded like they were struggling every time I heard it on concert euph.
They had to switch to a Bari because, as the other guy said, the soloist was struggling using a euph. Euphoniums are designed to play most comfortably in the lower-mid register of the instrument and, this particular solo is written pretty high. That's just not a very easy combo to execute cleanly. To put it in perspective of how high it's written, it's on the 7th partial of the instrument, upper Bb's and up to a C. That's trumpet screamer territory. And lead trumpets usually use mouthpieces to assist with playing that high. This soloist was likely using the average ~5g sized mouthpiece, or similar. It probably would have been best if they had a mello play the solo, and probably at least experimented with that idea. As mello's and baris have a similar tonal color at that pitch.
