Man, I can never understand why after so many years of bluegrass festivals and performances, we can never figure out how to turn up the guitar player during their breaks. Negativity aside, amazing talent here.
Samantha's fiddle solo though! Holy shit. A really good singer but that violin is gold in her hands. Awesome to see real music being taken so seriously still.
I wish whoever does the sound would take the time to get it right. The banjo, which is a resonator instrument normally doesn't need that much of a mic but this time it needed to be turned up as did the guitar. They are all very talented and I do not hold them responsible for the lousy sound.
If I was the audio engineer I would have been horribly embarrassed! Clearly the audio person was not paying attention, or even present so maybe embarrassment isn't even a care. Brandy and Cory got a great injustice. And this was televised?? Sad.
Look at how they're dressed. No torn jeans, dirty t-shirts, dirty hair hanging all over. These kids know how to look, sound, and be, professional. Thank you for giving dignity to country/bluegrass music. Too bad the soundperson was asleep, but they still did a fine job. You done us proud youngin's. Thanks for being keepers of the flame.
You won't find these kids out back selling or smoking dope drinking. They'll be out front leading the way. You are blessed kids. Good job. Lots of love from North Dakota.
He now plays with a hot band out of Seattle called North country. I recently saw them live, great band, great rapport with the crowd too! Plus he plays fiddle and mando too.
The future of bluegrass is in good hands. It is unfortunate that the sound engineer did not bring up each individual musicians microphone for their solos.

i was about to post the same thing. you could hear enough to know there was some great picking going on.......but all of the breaks were woefully under-mic'ed. i'm guessing all of those kids will be making their mark in the world of bluegrass. best of luck to them.
I was fascinated by the size of the instrument as a small child. But as a ;piano and sax player, hanging out with a bunch of guitar players, bass was a natural pick. An economic decision...law of supply and demand. At a festival, a bassist asked if I could put his bass in my tent, and I told him only of he would show me how to play it. I already knew chord progressions, and it was an hour later and I was the second best bass player there..there were now only two. I had a series of basses, and now I have an all carved Eastman that is too pretty to drag outside
