Some advice that stuck with me is if you want to sound like your heroes you should listen to their heroes. And as you say you will still sound like yourself but those influences will give you ideas that help you find your own sound

I found you comments on guitars as tools interesting and quite agree. There is no guitar, new or old, that is a "blues guitar". The blues comes from the player.

Hi Kirk, New sub here. Love the playing, videos and explanations. Re: PRS Guitars. Man I love all the ones Ive had, once fixed they play and sound great. It's just I have bad luck I guess, every single one from the Import Custom 24 SE to the American Made Silver Sky showed up with issues. I read so many good things about their team at the PTC that I bought over the last 3 years 5 different guitars. My Silver Sky is the best playing guitar, by a country mile. My problem is it came with a dead volume knob and when I emailed them they sent me another used one that was broken. I bought one off their website without telling them why and it worked fine. You can tell the pot was used because it had been cut out of another guitar. They left the little 1-2cm nubs on each lead where they snipped it. For a 2100 dollar guitar with no case, I would hope I'd get a bit better response when it had an issue. 3 months after having it all the volume and tone knob black ink is completely rubbed off. I got a 30 anniversary Custom 24, the nut was cut so low it was down to the fretboard, all strings buzzed (of course), so I sent it in to the PTC because they wanted to fix it for me. 5 months. They had it 5 months. Sent it back after I finally asked how things were going (They didn't even know they had it, they had to go check and get back to me) I got it back a week later, no shipping notification, and they never replaced the nut. They just raised the bridge until only the low e buzzed which makes the action anywhere past the 5th fret higher than mt kilimanjaro. Custom 24 came with 2 frets that had been chipped in the middle of them from a tool of some sort, sent back to sweetwater, got a new one where the bridge route was bigger than the bridge so it would always move under tension. Had to block it off with wood. My Hollowbody II came with a dead tone knob. Replaced it myself. I imported a purple burst from the UK... a bird was missing from the fretboard. Tried contacting them on their forums and they deleted the post after their fanboy brigade came to explain how I was being passive aggressive for asking if they had a dealer complaint form to report dealers who may be sending out bogus guitars (all guitars were bought from 2 different Vendors, Miami Guitars, and Sweetwater cept the uk import from Andertons). So for me. I just can't give them anymore of my money. That said, if you are able to play the guitar in house and everything works. They are some of the best guitars out there.
