Thank you for finely answering the question. I was tired of trying to get the right answer on bluetooth to my bike. I can deal with the wire now, and quit wondering!

Here in France they made it illegal to use a wired head set as of last year, so we're forced to wait until a decent wireless solution becomes available. That apart, congrats on another great video - keep 'em coming!

for listening to my Harley radio via my Sena or Scala PackTalk headsets, I simply use an FM transmitter plugged into the tank cable jack. The FM transmitter has its own internal power so it doesn't require an additional power wire. But the battery life is limited to about 4 hours. I tune my Bluetooth headset FM radio to an unused FM frequency and then set the transmitter to transmit on that same frequency. I get wonderful stereo from my Harley radio. Cost? The cheapest FM transmitters are about $5 to $9. And adapter for the tank cable jack is about $10.

Thanks for the great Video, have found another easy workaround (not perfect) for my 2019 Ultra, but only works with the latest Android phones, (my Galaxy S20 Ultra does it, but not guaranteeing others will) - is to pair the phone to the bike, then pair the headset (I have a Sena) to the phone, then select Dual BT on the phone, this works in a fashion, but the audio still comes out of the bike and also into the headset simultaneously. I need this as I ride with my wife on another bike, and we find using the intercom bike to bike a necessity as she is still learning. Unfortunately the dealership was unaware of this new issue, and told me it would work out of the box, as does the manual that comes with the bike. Will keep you updated on the progress.

INFO: Here is a complete review and informational video we put out on the Harley Wireless Headset Interface Module! Enjoy ==> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OAfl_SJaMRs.html The Wireless Headset Interface Module (WHIM) from Harley WILL NOT give you “stereo” sound using a regular Sena branded wireless Bluetooth headset, but only “mono” sound. In order to get “stereo” sound you’ll have to pay the HARLEY TAX and buy a Sena made wireless headset stamped with the HD logo. Yes, and pay more for the Sena headset, because it has an HD logo on it. The WHIM is mostly hype & HD does not give full disclosure on it’s limitations and that is making many bikers very unhappy. Many are ripping the WHIM out of their bikes! This is why we believe the Sena Freewire is still a better solution than the WHIM at this time. With a Freewire you can use most regular Sena branded headsets and get “stereo” sound and you don’t have to have your Boom Box “flashed” like you do with the WHIM. The Freewire gives you full Boom Box integration just like the WHIM and it’s a better device. You get full integration out of the box. LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FREEWIRE HERE: ==> bit.ly/2iD2ANh

Hi Ryan, I was all the day trying to connect mu head set with my boom box. Thank you very match, I started to believe that I was doing something wrong. Now all is clear....but the thing that I don't understand is that the boom box don't have the HSP profile....The add the Android auto and not the HSP.... is something stupid. Thanks again for our excellent video.

Ryan, Go take a look at HD Part # 76000768 this is their new Bluetooth Module for 2014 and newer bikes. If you have a 2014 - 2017 6.5 Infotainment System you will need HD Part # 69201726 as well. The two Harley Blue Tooth Head Sets work with this device as if you were still plugged in with a cord. Both of the Harley Headsets are either manufactured by or in conjunction with Sena. So other Sena Headset might work. I have tried both of these headsets out and they work once I installed this upgrade. It is not easy to get this installed as you need to flash the radio software, then the headset & module firmware then go to the dealership to get a data update (turn on the feature) in order to make this work. It took me 4 hours on the first try and 30 min on the second try to get this working. Did this on 2 2015 HD CVO RGs.

Hey thanks for all the information on this it will definitely help. One thing I have noticed on my 15 ultra limited is the if you use the PTT in the intercom setting it works just like you were using the CB without having the CB on. I usually use the VOX system with the CB so we don't interrupt the others using the CB we are riding with. Mainly my biggest issue with the system is at 60+mph there is so much wind noise the I'm constantly fighting with the VOX. I use the Harley brand headsets and haven't had any issues with the thus far. Again thanks for all the information it will be a big help in our future travels

Little disappointed you haven't updated this video yet. SENA released the Freewire a couple of months back . Our dealership just got them this week. It gives full integration with the Harley Boom radio for hands free Bluetooth headsets. The reason for a bluetooth over a wired headset is the bike to bike coms with out a using a cb.

Thaks for watching James. if you send me one I'll test it and give my opinion and review James. We are aware of the device. We maintain our position that there is no bluetooth headset that pairs "direclty" with the Boom Box. Although this looks great, it's a workaround of sorts. There has been the AKE device out for some time. They sent it to us and we tested it. Works great, but again its a "workaround". Here is a link to a podcast we did on "headset hacks" that may help understand the "direct" paring issues.

Hi, I recently purchase a CVO Trike. It only comes with the Wireless Headset. We have had nothing but trouble with them since we purchased it. It came with one headset and the dealership got us a 2nd one as part of buying the Trike. We have paired them to the Boombox GTS system. When we turn on the headsets we get an audible welcome and connecting to boombox. Then the music will start playing through the headsets. I can also at that time hear my wife talking. She however cannot hear me. Then all of a sudden the radio will stop working and we can hear each other in the headsets for a period of time. Then it will stop working all together. The dealership has not been much help. They say this should pair up and work fine. The Radio has been updated to v28 of the firmware and the Harley branded Sena Headsets have the latest v2.2 firmware on them. The CVO doesn't have a wired capability. One of the reasons we purchased the Harley Trike was because they were factory made. Unlike the Goldwing which all are kits done 3rd party. We had a 1994 Goldwing that worked flawlessly. We really are not that worried about having a wire to the headsets. But How do we do that with the CVO. Or can you help us get these wireless ones working? Thanks

@texasmotorcyclerideradventures
Why not just install the Boom! Audio Music and Communications Kit (Part Number 69200865)? Plug the Freewire into that as you would if your bike had the DIN plug from the factory? I think the Freewire would fit in the phone cubby so drill a hole to run the mini USB connector and leave the DIN plug under the fairing. I have seen two people online that said this works perfect. Going to try it myself this week. You can get all the functionality of a factory DIN on a Street or Road Glide.

Glad I found your channel, Ryan. You saved me a lot of time dealing with the connectivity issues on my 2015 Road Glide, which I love except for the Boom Box glitches. If I need it and your site has it, I'm coming your way. Why do you think HD has created this infotainment system limitation and failed to address it for so long? Is it a reliability question or is it driven by the economics of marketing, meaning they have to retire the costs of producing the current design before offering a change? After all, they can't sell a solution before they stop selling the deficient/defective system, right? Personally, I want to swing a leg over the seat and go. Waiting for an electronic system to initialize makes me the slow guy in my group, but making selections on the fly is (potentially) dangerous. HD, PAY ATTENTION! This little problem is BIG!

Mr. Ryan I have the following question for you. its not about wireless its about being wired. So assuming I have the head set on with the boom mike. can I set the radio to play music out of the bike speakers and when I get a call listen to it via the head set. my second question is will the music continue or stop playing while I listen to the call via head set. thank you be safe brother in blue.

Why do we want to get rid of the helmet cable? Because we use Bluetooth intercom headsets. Bluetooth intercom is way better than Citizen's Band radio. But unfortunately, that precludes being able to use any of the Harley radio functions. For that reason, my touring friends and utilize a Bluetooth transmitter. It operates almost seamlessly. The PackTalk has "Phone 2" to which the transmitter can be paired and connected. On those rare occasions when you're traveling with people that use CB radio, simply get a Harley hand-held microphone.

Ryan Urlacher unfortunately, we had horrendous experiences with the SENA 20S. They worked great with only 2 intercoms. But add the 3rd, 4th, 5th and the issues experienced were unbearable. Finally, after 2 years of struggling with them, my 5 touring friends and I sold them on eBay and bought PackTalk units. If someone would make a Scala Rider - compatible "Freewire", I'd buy in an instant. I don't understand why it's so hard. I think that the difficult part is the electret microphone input of the Harley radio. Most dongles interface with dynamic mics.
@RyanUrlacher

Rock on. Sorry about your Sena troubles. We use the heck out of Sena and pair groups no prob with different models etc...That would be cool if they made that version of Freewire for you
@DFWKen
@DFWKen 7 лет назад
We got ours 4 years ago, 5 of the first 20S units shipped in the US; just in time for a 4,500 mile trip to several US national parks. There were 4 of us. They were very frustrating to use at the time. We all had owned previous Sena Bluetooth communicators and were disappointed. I had a list of over a dozen issues that we experienced. Some may have been operator errors or trying to recover from issues-created errors. I was a very active user on the Sena ZenDesk forum. The last straw was when playing music would stop any time 3 or more were in intercom. It was totally repeatable; but Sena said that they couldn't duplicate the issue. So we all gave up. Whoever comes up with a Harley Davidson "Freewire-type" device is going to be a hero to loads of PackTalk users. I see comments about the need for such a device on almost every Bluetooth forum. In the meantime, I'll continue to use my Bluetooth Transmitter to hear the Harley radio and the hand-held Harley microphone for those occasions where a group only has CB.
@RyanUrlacher
@RyanUrlacher 7 лет назад
Yah, I don't think there will be any solution for Pack Talk anytime soon unfortunately. IMO. They'll have to produce it themselves like Sena produced the Freewire. HD is already in bed with Sena. :-(

Can you advise? I have a 2017 ultra limited low without the WHIM. I have used Bluetooth Comms for years and bought the Harley branded 20s Sena headset. Before I decide whether to install the WHIM or use the Sena freewire option I thought I would try the wired solution into the 7 pin DIN however it doesn't seem to work properly; very bad sound and low volume in one speaker (mono). Does the wired option work with these headsets or only with specific other headsets? Also, if I'm not bothered about speaking commands for navigation would the sm10 transmitter be fine as it is much cheaper here in the UK? Thanks 👍

A simple firmware update is all that is needed to add the Headset profile. The hardware is there. It's Harley not listening to it's more tech-savvy riders. And they want to make a bluetooth setup that is proprietary to HD and charge you a fortune for it.

+Ryan Urlacher I don't understand your reply. I did watch the video (thanks for posting it is good info). The point I was making was the fix to get the headset profile is PCL/PLA code changes to the firmware in the language needed. The hardware needed to connect (blue tooth transmitter/receiver, middleware to hand shake, etc.) is already present in the BOOM!. I do coding. The differences between A2DP, HSP, HID, etc. are all software once the base hardware is present. Same fix done in Nissan, Hyundai, and Chevy cars as bluetooth versions changed. Garmin supports this in the Zumo Series GPS's. (you can have HSP A2DP for voice commands and music at the same time). IMO, the HD folks want a proprietary version of headsets. All the hoopla about the Rushmore upgrades and they cheap out on the BOOM! box. The wire is a pain, especially with proper riding gear, running it inside your jacket, etc. The wired system has been around for decades. I can't believe the "designed" the BOOM! for wired from the ground up. Riders just feel CHEATED. Thanks again for the informative videos. EDIT I guess your response was copied from the other video, that's why the confusion. Thanks!

Question: Occasionally Harley releases updates for the Boom Audio system. Could the problem of no HSP be fixed with a software update or is it a hardware issue? Also on the old Harley stereo prior to 2014 you could add new features like XM with a module. Couldn't Harley come up with a work around module to add HSP? I admit I'm ignorant about this technical stuff so I ask for your forgiveness if these are stupid questions.
@RyanUrlacher
@RyanUrlacher 7 лет назад
Harley has been releasing many system software updates over the past 2 plus years. We strongly suggest everyone follow this channel because I always test the updates and release on this channel my findings. With that said, to date they have not updated a HSP profile and I don't think they ever will for this ongoing version of the boom box. That's why I believe it's a hardware issue.

I listen to everything on my 14 ultra speakers. But do have full voice command of the boombox yes it is a hack but works very well I use Sena 20s paired to a Sena BT10 that is wired to the 280 plug in the fairing. I can give commands to booombox also talk on the CB or my phone from the 20S. The phone is paired to the bike Both mine and my wifes 20s are paired to the BT10. The BT10 comes on and off with the bike and charges thru USB I have been using this setup for 30000 miles. It has worked great. So it may be a HACK But for someone that wants to use wireless voice commands to the boombox it is Possible.

Just bought a Shoei Neotec2 with the SENA SRL. Damn I wish I would have done the research before I did that. Pairing with a 2018 CVO road glide which has the WHIM already installed. I have a HD stamped headset but I wanted the built in headset style of the neotec. That was an expensive lesson. So my question is I'd have to put a seven pin connector on my RG and still not have voice command using a freewire just to get stereo? I can't find anythinguch on the SRL.

You can use the Freewire and use voice commands into the Boom Box. Just install the 7 pin with our free video. Then install and pair the Freewire. Here is an article I wrote with videos that will answer all your questions ==> www.lawabidingbiker.com/freewire-voice-commands/ *please consider purchasing a Freewire through our store to support our efforts. We have them in stock. --> shop.lawabidingbiker.com/collections/sena-headsets/products/sena-freewire-bluetooth-transmitter-for-harley-davidson-motorcycles

Is there a way to incorporate a external mic like a shotgun mic? Application being I want to use my phone to listen to music on my 2018 CVO and if I get a call I want to be able to talk to the caller. For now I can hear the caller on my phone but they cant hear me and I dont want to wear a helmet to use the headset. I even considered trying to mount the headset on the bike but I havent gotten around to it yet

Damn, Harley really screwed owners with that BOOM BOX setup without the HSP. Now I’m gonna have to try to sell the wife on ditching our current pair of Scala Rider Bluetooth headsets that we purchased just two years ago for $400.00 and buy a whole new setup! Wish me luck it’s not gonna be an easy sell.

I defended your opinion on harley blue tooth on a Facebook harley page I was told I did not know what I was talking about. according to the writer he bought a sena 20s and a 7pin adopter and it works. perfect I am confused?? what do you say ? is it still a hack?
@RyanUrlacher
@RyanUrlacher 7 лет назад
It is a "hack" Rafael. There is still absolutely NO bluetooth headset that pairs "DIRECTLY" with the Boom Box system. The Sena 20's absolutely does not pair directly. Most gusy like the "writer" just don't understand what "direct" paring means. They buy stuff and make it work and they don't understand at all exactly how it works. Or they fork out cash, have it installed, and have no idea. To make the Sena 20's work you need an additional $250 "Sena Freewire" adaptor that plugs into your 7-PIN. It's just like the other hacks and workarounds, but Sena calls it a "freewire"'' LMAO......they purposely named it that to confuse guys and it works. It's not a wireless system. It plugs in to the 7 pin. They only thing it gets ride of is the one wire from the 7 pin to your helmet. Yah, so for like a $600 hack, anyone can give their money to Sena and buy a "freewire"'....LOL. Here is an affiliate link to the Freewire if interested. bit.ly/2gwekNg I have a Freewire coming in the mail and I will test it and review it on this channel as a Hack/Work Around. We also have a Sena 20 s on hand to make the hack work. I hope this helps and I wish more on forums would know what they are talking about. Exactly why I'm no a fan of forums....

I stand firm......There is still no Bluetooth Headset that pairs "DIRECTLY" with the Boom Box to this very day. The new Harley WHIM is an ad-on module. The Sena Freewire is an "ad-on" module. They are all still hacks to get some sort of Bluetooth headset connectivity to the Boom Box. Check out our Sena Freewire listing and videos at the bottom ==> shop.lawabidingbiker.com/collections/sena-headsets/products/sena-freewire-bluetooth-transmitter-for-harley-davidson-motorcycles

Hi there. Wanted to share something you may find interesting. Your infotainment Bluetooth hack video is a little incorrect. Regarding being able to communicate directly to the Harmon Kardon via an HSP you are spot on but there are a number of "hacks" available that will in fact allow riders that want to eliminate the single cable between themselves and their motorcycle do so and still have full function. There is a German company called AKE that makes a complete system that allows this as well as Sierra electronics that sells a complete kit to allow full function. Riders can listen to audio and GPS as well as communicate with the Boom system via voice commands. I have done a number of tests using my own Streetglide and both work and are comparable to using the corded headset only without a cord. This is a thread that explains how the sena "hack" sold by Sierra electronics works; www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/995797-full-use-of-the-hd-cb-with-any-bt-headset.html

+CPT_Carrera Hello RIck from LAB here and thanks for the comment. The issue is, which we discuss in the video is that by using the Sierra electronics version you are stuck in mono. To get stereo you have to sync directly to your phone for music and not the Boom Audio 6.5 GT. The point of our video is you still have to spend a lot of money to get around these issues. In this quote from the site you referenced it mentions you must use a cable to get stereo directly from the Boom Box. This is the same info we got from SENA and Sierra. "The system's only compromise is that the BT profile (HSP) used to connect the bike's audio system and the BT headsets will not support stereo; so, FM and CD music from the bike's audio system is mono. Not a problem if your BT headset has the A2DP profile to connect to a phone or MP3 player. For stereo music from the bike's audio system, the harness has a cable to plug into an optional Sena SM10. With the SM10 installed, you can toggle between 1) talking on the CB while monitoring mono music, and 2) listening to stereo music while monitoring the CB for a call, with just one tap of the Jog Dial to switch between the two sessions." With that said it seems like a lot of work and expense to lose one wire, but we encourage everyone to do their own thing. As far as the German AKE we just got info back from them and the one former US distributor appears not to be carrying them anymore. This could be incorrect, but that is the best info I could find. The AKE looks encouraging for sure. They are common in Europe, but in the US we have heard only a little and have gotten back mixed reviews. If you have one send us an email and video of the usage to admin@lawabidingbiker.com

+Rick "Big Daddy" Kane I must have missed where it referred to the Sierra electronics product. Video was thorough and great as all your guys stuff don't get me wrong. I made a few videos of my own regarding Sierra products, AKE Bluetooth device( what I run currently and it does stereo and duplex with the push of a button), and another harness I did with a Sena SR10. If you haven't seen those, check them out on my RU-vid. Yeah, it's all still hacks that basically replace the corded cable with a Bluetooth dongle and are plugged into the same place the cable on the bike would(P&A Audio). I've even seen guys wire a small microphone directly to the same P&A audio location. Kinda like an aftermarket car stereo would.
