It's pretty insane what sort of tools are available to the amateur community these days. I remember looking at images on the Sky at night in the '70's as a kid, and thinking they were the mutts nuts and that NASA etc were wizards. Yet now, we mere mortals can achieve so much with relatively inexpensive equipment from our back gardens. It truly does blow your mind. Well, it would if the chuffin clouds buggered off! Clear skies Luke

It's absolutely unreal isn't it mate! I'm chuffed to be around for this phase of astronomy, we can do so much from our backyards now - the horizons have never been broader! Hope you are well and that you have a truly lovely christmas my friend :-)

I just can't believed the improvement! Russ has really outdone himself this time. I couldn't even use AI V2 on my last image because it destroyed the starfield and made everything double stars! But I just used AI V4 on it and now it's perfect! I was actually considering getting an AO to fix my funky stars from guide errors but now I can put my wallet back in my pocket 🙂 Thanks for the video Luke! Exciting stuff!

Hi Luke, I've had a good look at this earlier and it's truly unbelievable. I thought the original blur xterminator was excellent but the latest is something else ! The only thing I didn't realise was if you had the previous blurx saved as an icon on your workspace you need to delete it and create a new one otherwise every time it will ask you to choose / select ai 4. I checked the psf value on the new version and its incredible ! I reckon there's half the astro community going over old data tonight fixing up elongated stars !

It's insane how good the new version of BXT is. I haven't managed to try it myself yet but I've been hugely impressed with the results other people are getting. Funny you should mention globular clusters, I'll definitely be reprocessing my M13 image with it to see what it can do.

The stars themselves are the point spread functions as we know real stars are point sources. Previous version appears to take all the stars and average them to produce and average PSF used to deconvolve the entire image. I was hoping for a dynamic spatially variable PSF, which would adapt the PSF for the local patches in the image. Obviously that would help to handle aberrations such as coma and astigmatism which worsen as we get further out.❤🎉
@lukomatico
@lukomatico 7 месяцев назад
Good thought mate! - I believe it does split the image and perform deconvolution using a dynamic PSF, with the values mapped to subsections of the shot - please do correct me if I'm wrong though, I believe it's been doing that since v1 of the AI! All the very best my friend! Luke
@baz_astra
@baz_astra 7 месяцев назад
First version also uses local segmented PSF, not a global average.

Luke, love BlurXterminator. BUT for me a lot of the “fun” of astrophotography is in developing my skills in tuning my scope to get the best images. For example sensor tilt and back focus. I do worry that tools like this are removing the need for that “skill”. Like I say I’m conflicted on this because I too love these tools.
@gabewrsewell
@gabewrsewell 7 месяцев назад
i totally get this too, but do keep in mind that ‘garbage in, garbage out’ mantra. i don’t think tools like this remove the need for all that work, as your results will be *even better* when you put in that pristine data you’re proud of in the first place!
@billblanshan3021

I agree 100% with what you just said. So now you can go out and buy the crappiest telescope in the world and make it look like a Hubble image because AI is going to generate that for you.
@lukomatico

A lot of great points raised here! I guess for me I'm always of the opinion that if you enjoy something and you aren't hurting yourself or others, then do it! so I'll be happily BXT'ing my images, but I fully respect those who don't wish to of course! For me, it's increased my enjoyment and satisfaction from my gear by a huge amount, to the point where processing without it just isn't a fun-sounding option anymore :-)
@gabewrsewell
@gabewrsewell 7 месяцев назад
for fuck snakes russel croman, i’m already broke as it is! this just sealed the deal for me, i’m going to build a computer solely so that i can purchase pixinsight and these tools, i think that cost will improve my images way more than if i were to spend it on a better camera. cheers but also curse you luke, clear skies :)
@lukomatico

me too man, i’m saving up for a computer that’ll be able to run pixinsight as well. i don’t know about you, but it’s so easy for me to forget that upgrading the software and the computer you use for image processing can be just as impactful as getting new gear!
@lukomatico

I hear you mate yeah! it's pretty intensive in general to run PixInsight, but well worth it when you do! :-) wishing you a happy holidays mate!
@MrPedalpaddle
@MrPedalpaddle 7 месяцев назад
I’ll be interested how this affects your workflow using Bill Blanshan’s Narrow band Normalization tool - BXT v2 wants to be run linear, after linear colour combination; Bill likes to colour combine after stretching (IIRC). So: BXT Correct Stars only on linear SHO integrations, then linear colour combine, then BXT again, the unlinked (?) pixel math stretch, then Narrowband Normalization?
@lukomatico
@lukomatico 7 месяцев назад
it's a great question mate, I don't think it'll change things too much for me but I won't know until I try I guess! Thanks for posing this thought-provoker! All the best, Luke
@Trinodia
@Trinodia 7 месяцев назад
From another RU-vid video Russel sais it is on color images v4 will work best. And that you should do blurx correct only before spcc and run a fix on non stellar and reduce stars after you do spcc but still in linear. Not sure how that would work with mono data.
@Trinodia
@Trinodia 7 месяцев назад
Might be that order is best to preserve star color

Nice video. This is a really cool plugin. Is there a free alternative to blurxterminator?
@lukomatico
@lukomatico 6 месяцев назад
Thanks mate! - I think there's no direct competitor that's free, there are alternative tools such as EZdecon as part of the (now deprecated) EzSuite though, - maybe worth a try! In my view though the RC tools are money well spent :-) Clear skies!
@Lx85
@Lx85 6 месяцев назад
@@lukomatico I understand. I think you are right, RC tools seem to really deserve their money. But since 1 Dollar is 30 TL in my country, it costs me approximately 3000 TL and this is too much. I couldn't even buy Pixinsight yet :) So I use photoshop and Siril. Anyway, thanks for the answer. Clear skies!
