Another amazing review - nobody can cover all the bases like you can. Your critiques are always fair, showing all sides, without being petty. Anyhow, it's a unique dress, even though it's clear that there's been a slight decline in the finishing quality. My standard of Barbie quality has always been measured by an 11th birthday gift from my friend, Masako: "Evening Splendor." Those tiny zippers!!! (The gift stack also included "Theatre Date" and "Masquerade") I totally agree about the flimsiness of the dolls. How I love the solidness of the older Silkstones. And oh! Those wonderful seamless bodies of vintage!

I really like this Barbie. Love the outfit, the fringes and the bodice.Beautiful collectible Barbie dress that I've seen in a long time. I want this Barbie but too bad I can't afford it. Too expensive for me. I like when you dress up all nice in your gorgeous suits for your Barbie reviews. She's really cute, I like her. I do like her face a lot, and I agree that she has a multiethnic look that I find really appealing. I passed on this particular doll myself, I just didn't feel like dealing with trying to get a Platinum doll this time around. The only two Platinum dolls I tried for and got were the Pop Life Ken doll from a few years back (LOVE him) and the Mari-faced Black & White doll from last year, with the chiffon gown. I just really liked both those dolls, and I had to try for them. Luckily, I got them both. I have let my membership to the BFC lapse since they did the new membership thing. I don't really buy that many new dolls from Mattel these days, all my money goes to Integrity Toys and to eBay for Vintage/Mod/Malibu/SuperStar dolls. I am curious about the vintage repro 1962 Dream House though. Hopefully I'll be able to score one of those. I have thought about rejoining the BFC, I used to be somewhat active on the boards in the Vintage forum, but it was never a happenin' scene, as the youngsters would say (if it was 1965). I don't know why there is such a divide among collectors about articulation. I like articulation on some dolls, but on other dolls I prefer a more static body. I'm a 'why not both?" kind of person. Anything that shows a lot of skin really needs to be on a static doll body, in my opinion. And some dolls seem to call for articulation more than others. It should always be on a case-by-case basis, with dolls meant to stand on a shelf differentiated from dolls meant to be handled and photographed in a variety of poses. In a perfect world, every doll would be available with and without articulation, but I'm just dreaming at this point. I was very surprised when the Silkstones went to an articulated body, since it didn't seem like the type of doll that really called for articulation. And I think that the articulation on the Silkstone dolls wasn't implemented well, the elbow joints especially look rather inelegant to me. They also don't feel robust enough, I always feel like there's a high risk of breaking the joints. I was also surprised that Mattel modified the proportions of the Silkstone body when they went to articulation. That makes absolutely no sense to me. If I had been involved in this process, I would have suggested giving the dolls bendable knees only, and to otherwise leave the body as it was. That way the dolls could be displayed seated, but still retain the elegant contours of the unjointed arms. This would also mean that the new dolls could still wear the fashions created for all of the legacy product. Naturally, even in this case, there would be some dolls that should retain the original unjointed legs, although opaque hosiery goes a long way toward improving the look of articulated knees if done properly. The plastic articulated body from Mattel is also rather unsatisfying to me, I think that Integrity does a much better job at making the joints attractive enough that they don't jump out when they are visible as the doll is displayed. The heft of the IT bodies also makes them feel like a higher quality product, Mattel's bodies just feel extremely lightweight and 'inexpensive'. So that's my too-long take on articulation. :)

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive review. You really are adorable and articulate, Suresh...a killer combination. I really can't believe that she is a $100 doll! She looks so play line. I love the face mold and skin tone. It's a nice break from the Carl face mold. The dress is pretty but the doll looked very cheap for that much money. In the close-ups I could see the untrimmed seams in her legs! I just put a few model muse bodies on Ebay and noted the difference in weight and solidity between the Basics and Looks and the later Holiday dolls. Everything is affected by the rising prices these days I guess. Corners are cut and labor farmed out to bring higher profits to the stockholders, leaving doll devotees with the short end. That being said...thank you so much for putting things in perspective and reminding us that there are much more important things in these recent days to put our energy toward. They are just plastic dolls. (But sooo pretty).

I agree with the articulation! Another youtubers doll came with cracked arms which she ignored happy to just own this exclusive doll! The fringe Colour and ethos of the dress is beautiful! Love the sculpt and facial screening! Very entertaining and informative video! Yes we should urged Mattel to improve their model muse articulated body! Maybe the doll knees needs a clicking mechanism to give it a certain rigidity

I guess I'm one of those few people that agrees with you when it comes to her body, it's very cheap looking. When I first saw this doll I actually got a Jennifer Lopez kind of vibe, maybe it's her face (I can't really explain it). But I'm not crazy about her dress tbh, the fringes are just too thick and way too long at the bottom (but that's just me nitpicking :p). And you are SOOO right, there's real drama going on in the world right now. Being able to complain about a piece of plastic, that comes in the shape of a doll, is a luxury that some people, who are dealing with real drama, don't have. So we should consider ourselves lucky, and not take this luxury for granted :) Anyways, great review, friend! ;)

i haven't gotten my membership card either. i didn't get this doll. she didn't look like she was worth the money. and by your review, i'm kinda glad I didn't. I'm saving for rest of the 2017 fashion collection dolls. and I totally agree with you about the comments on the barbie blog...some of those people really need to re-evaluate their priorities! LOL! but i get it. Collecting is a passion...

I adore her face and hair. The Claudette sculpt is gorgeous. I'm not crazy about the dress though, sorry :( Although I do think it looks much better in your instagram pics. I agree, the body is pretty cheap, which is too bad for an expensive doll. Her face is lovely, though, and the blush pink is divine.

Oh my goodness! I was so waiting for your review on her! she's so stunning. I guess the problem is that some people like a posable body and some enjoy the model muse...so Mattel is kinda like what do we do? Do you think perhaps they should have a certain amount that are model muse and some that are articulated and the customer can add their choice to carts? And as far as the manicures I have no idea what is going on! I just got this year's holiday barbie (the blonde who is absolutely gorgeous btw!) and her manicure is so sloppy that it's ridiculous. I'm definitely not happy about that.

I think I remember a tutorial for loose legs where they used a drop of super glue inside the articulation. It shouldn't get the leg permanently glued, it just should make it rigid. (sorry for my english haha )

For me, overall, she is actually very nice. But what really made me upset is her body! She has the cheap hallow articulated body! I would have understood it if she was a pink, black, silver label doll but shes not. Shes a "platinum label" doll. Like i get it when sometimes (or most of the times 🙄) they f*cks up on their gold label doll but really Mattel ? Your cheap quality has come to the platinum label dolls ? Anyways , shes a wonderful doll and i love the designer so I'm not gonna hate this doll😂. OK I had to come back and leave another comment. I just opened my Barbie Golden Dream Doll and her manicure is an absolute mess. That makes the last two collector dolls in a row with this problem!

She is a very pretty doll, I do love that she looks multiracial, I'm definitely a fan of diversity in my doll collection. I like the top of the dress and anyone will tell you I'm all about the blush, but the bottom half of the dress really has me scratching my head. I missed the opportunity to get her since I honestly missed the email in my promotions tab, but I don't know that I could justify the cost. I really feel like some of the Platinum dolls aren't much better quality than the black labels for a third of the price.
