BMPCC4k vs Old Sony F3

I knew the first camera was the F3 without looking. Crazy how much better it looks. Highlights, skin tone... and man that blue LED light at the end destroys the image in the BMPCC.

F3 any day over BMPCC4K

So, i will say that the video starts with sony F3 then BMPCC4K and so on. The reason behind that is because the BMPCC4k image is slightly cropped and it's a little crispier (as being a newer sensor technology. However, I love the look of the Sony F3. Daniel please shade some light and tell us which one is wich :)

The first shot in series is the F3. Followed by the Black Magic.

Damn... I thought for sure the order was BMPCC then the F3 but then I read the comments and had to watch it several more times. I'm amazed how much better the f3 looks from the dynamic range and the skin tones. I might have to pick one up.

Prices on F3 have skyrocketed.. I knew I should have picked up one of these when I had the chance, when they were hovering around the $1,000 mark.

FYI the F3's Sensor Development in a collaboration with Fujifilm engineers ..You can feel Fujifilm film stock "secret sauce" looks . and also it has one of the largest pixel size of all cine cameras of course BMPCC4k is more current and advanced . but F3 i believe has way less Digital Edge

I used to own an F3 and regret selling it. I felt like with any other shooting scenario, if handled improperly, it will produce bad footage. But overall it produced some of the most filmic images I've ever seen from a camera when using an external recorder. The only other camera I've ever owned that produced more film-like images is the F35 (which I still own). For the price these are going for now, they are an absolute steal. One with the 444 option just went on Ebay for under $900.

F3 looks more cinematic

Good stuff. I'm guessing one of the night sequences beginning @1:15 was the F3? Sony's are generally the Low Light Kings. Then again good glass with a wide apt. setting helps. Over all hard to tell. I'm not a fan of the form factor of the new BMPCC 4K If I'm honest. I prefer the Gen 1 BMPCC even though it only shoots in 1080 I'm ok with that.Good stuff. 👌

The second shot (where she is pulling the flyer off the board I think) is the only one I really do prefer the second shot and think it looks more cinematic and natural than the first.... otherwise the first shots are better I think and probably the F3.

Lovely shots. What lenses you mount on F3?

The first camera seems to have larger sensor. And due to it longer focal leight, shallower depth of field and as a result more pleasant look. From the comments I read it was F3 with 28mm f2.0. For P4K comparable lens should be 22-23mm f1.6. What lens did you used on P4K?

I’ve gotta say that, in cinematics alone, I’m liking the more cropped in shots far more than the wider versions. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that the more cropped in images are the BMCC and the wider shots are the F3. (And by that I mean the first shot is the black magic and the following is the F3). There’s something about that sensor that allows for a lot more depth of field even when using the same lenses (I’m guessing the medium format) and it just looks more filmic in the way it deals with colors and light falloff. The f3 definitely kills in lowlight situations and it looks like it’s retaining more information in the shadows but it simply has too much noise to really be considered all that useful and, in color correction, I’d flatten out those dark areas to hide it.

something just doesnt seem right about the pocket 4k video, what settings and lenses did you use?

Ooooookay.. maaaaybe I'm missing something here but, how on earth does one know what camera they're looking at? Is there a secret caption activator I don't know about?

The Sony looks better imo however the BMPCC has better color representation. Not sure why even today Sony colors lean to green. Maybe the operators can't change the tint in camera. Nikon uses Sony sensors and rarely has ever had this problem and if you've ever run into say blue or red. Nikon gives you the option to adjust it out in it's WB menu. I shoot kelvin now and adjust Nikon cameras to M2 or M3, mostly M3 and the accuracy is very very spot on.

I like the longer focal length of the first camera, is that the bmpcc4k?

at the end I much prefer the 1st corridor shot at 2:00 to the latter at 2:08. would be nice to know which is which (I'm guessing the first at 2:00 mins is the f3)

Hi Daniel, I'm planning to buy an F3 that has the 444 upgrade. I wonder if the camera has already had the 444 upgrade, does it mean that it automatically has the option to shoot in 422 SLOG? Or could the SLOG mode (for 422 since I don't have the recorder for 444) still not be available even if it has the 444 upgrade? I can't find the answer anywhere and hopefully you can help me out. Thank you so much. Your video is instrumental in helping me decide to get this camera!

BMPCC 4K looks sharper, more high res, but .... less 'movie like', so.. I'm confused.

Been looking att getting an F3 for a long time. But the lack of newer videos on youtube kinda held me back. This video convinced me it was a good deal. Havent got it yet. Was this shot in S-log? Have you any experience with S-log2. If you have how far each other are them?

did you record onto a recorder with the F3?

While the Blackmagic looks better, the F3 has some usable and nice gritty shots (for indoors/blue-ish tones)

You are obviously not using the same lens and color graded it differently. The BMPCC can produce the same and better cinematic quality.

Would you recommend this over the pocket 6K? as they both have similar sized sensors

you can edit 100% with more freedom the braw of the bmpcc, in a place where you have nice light and colors the f3 seems better, but in a big production you will need the flexibility of raw, dont ilude yourself thinking that f3 will be better, and raw need use a very good edit on resolve to gain the real power, look some others BMPCC4k videos on youtube before choose the camera thar you will buy. If you want you can achieve this f3 look on you black magic easily if you edit the braw with that look in mind

Did you use a recorder with the F3? I currently own both and can't let go of my F3, which is why I'm thinking of finally buying a recorder for it.
