The auto start stop system will automatically switch the engine on if the car senses that the battery is draining more than it should when the engine is off.

the start stop funktion is not an error or something else. If the engine is to cold, you car will turn on the engine to hold the temperature on nominal temperature

I'm really considering a 2014 BMW 320i in silver because it's so inexpensive. Only about $348 per month with no money down for a 32 month lease.

The auto start/stop will also turn the engine on even if you move the steering wheel a bit.

Dave, it will start the car with auto start stop if the car senses it is too hot inside so the aircon can come on and make it cool again.

Oh and the sport button doesn't change gear ratios (that's impossible) it just stiffens the steering and stiffens the suspension

I don't think the gear ratio is ever changed. The response time or the aggressiveness could be changed, but AFAIK the ratios are fixed on this kind of gearbox.

Looks great. I have a Suzuki Swift RE4. Its a great little car, slightly bigger than a mini. 4 door hatch, goes like a rocket on the smell of an oily rag, Much quieter than most cmpact cars. Love it!!!

Brilliant video Dave, enjoyed that. You said you dont normally do cars in your videos, well i think you should! maybe you can do the same type of video when you get your family car too. I think you made the right choice about your car by the way, out of the cars you considered i think your 1 series is probably the best of them all. One thing though, if it snows dont expect it to move off the driveway unless you have winter tyres lol, the only bad thing about RWD cars. Ive got a 2001 318, had it nearly a year and we havent had a drop of snow since ive had it, touch wood! but yeah, i love it, easily the smoothest/quietest car ive ever owned. Quick question, i didnt see any climate control? i could only see manual temp adjustments via a twist knob? my 2001 has climate control with a digital temp display, everything is digital, quite surprised the newer models dont have the digital climate? unless its on the little heads-up display?

What options are available for Multimedia eg. Aux?

I love your new car Dave! It's nice to see how excited you are over your new purchase. I just went thru the same feelings, only for a pickup truck I purchased for my business. Still, a very nice experience.

Personally, I love the Toyota Rav4 Late 2013 Limited Edition. My father owns the car, and as a passenger, it's a beautiful experience. I am a little partial to a Rav4 because I've been in one most of my life, but with all of that aside, it's such an amazing car in my opinion. Just because my father had a certain color that he really liked about the car, we actually had it driven in from a different part of California. It was definitely worth the wait. I also love your license plate things in he video. Haha

Hi Dave - I enjoyed the tour of your new car. I'm on my 8th BMW now and you're absolutely right - after being away for awhile, it just feels familiar! Didn't realize how much I missed it. Still have the Prius - technically interesting but boring to drive!

Too bad it doesn't have LED headlights and tail lights.

Glad you enjoy it. I had a 5 series for almost 20 years and it was a damn good car. I tried a 1 series but I couldn't afford it so I got a 10 yr old Rover 75 which is very similar to a 5 in that it hates hills :)

Thanks for this video, Dave. I really enjoyed having a look at what BMW has to offer nowadays. I do like them but I prefer the VW Golf, especially the GTI and R versions which are super quick! My Mum has a Toyota RAV 4 and I really wouldn't recommend getting another, in my opinion. I really like the new BMW X4 that they have just introduced recently. Although, if you are wanting a used car then you probably will want to go for something like an audi Q5, for your wife. Thanks again.

Hi mate I don't have the car you've bought but my car has stop/start tech, the auto off only works under certain circumstances when the battery isn't under load it won't work when you've got loads of electrics running also will only activate for about 5 mins then the engine will restart so suspect it was a coincidence when the engine restarted when your wife walked up the the car.

I enjoy driving and am looking for something fun, affordable and not too expensive to run ... I quite like the idea of a mini cooper or cooper s though. Currently I drive my parents car which is a 1998 Mercedes S500 (W140 series), which is lovely, but an entirely different kind of car!

I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for this, and my opinion should not affect you in any way, but I have to say, based on my experience with BMWs I would never get one again. Personally, I have only have bad experiences with BMWs, especially the lower end, smaller ones such as the 1 series and 3 series. While the exterior looks great, that is all the praise I can give. The build quality is horrendous. The cheap plastic starts squeaking about a month after you have bought the car. You hear loose screws flinging around in the door. The interior is pretty damn ugly compared to it's competitors like Mercedes, Audi, Volvo. BMWs are unreliable. Complete electric failure which takes weeks to fix has happened in all my BMWs so far. The fuel consumption is not even close to that on paper. In fact, reality and theory are much further apart on BMWs than on for example Volvos. The gearbox is very low quality. And lastly, rear wheel drive makes the car unusable in snowy conditions. These cars are ridiculously overpriced. Compared to to its's competitors, when buying a BMW you get much less for what you what you pay for. Also, the fancy rims are a lie. They cost very little to make for BMW, yet they add 1500-2000 dollars to the total price. When you sell the car however, they are not valued at all, they are completely worthless. It's just a way for BMW to squeeze out more money from you. I have tried BMWs a couple of times now, and just like you, I was always quite impressed for the first month or two, but ended up selling every single one after a year or less, with massive losses. But again, this is just my experience with BMWs, I hope yours will be different!

Q3 is just a jacked up A3 which is ok I've driven 2014 versions of both. Q5 is a better 'big car'. The new RAV 4's are solid cars, always have been. The prius? ...I'll unsub you lol. The A class mercedes is good looking but really you're paying so much for the brand it's actually a pretty mediocre driving car with an extortionate price tag. The X3 is a DOG of bad looking car as well.
