Haha agree. They used to make such beautifull cars. Nowadays its like having a damn bbq grille stuck to the front of the car. Thats why im planning to buy an older bmw.

Absolutely. The original grill reminds me of a pair of sunglasses. The long hood gives the impression of driving to beat the wind when sitting behind the wheel. A classic thing of beauty with sporty grunt. Nothing will part me from my 2009 116i beemer. BMW really lost the plot when they started to emulate jap crap. The word plastic springs to mind...

Der Motor ist eine absolute Katastrophe, bin ihn selbst mal gefahren. Kaum Drehmoment, kein Turbo, Probleme mit den Steuerketten und sehr schwacher Durchzug. Kann nur als Drehorgel halbwegs zügig gefahren werden wodurch der Spritt Verbrauch extrem steigt. Das Einzige was der Motor gut kann ist mit 80 durch die Gegend Bummeln wo man dann auch nur 5,8 - 6 Liter verbraucht ... ich würde niemanden dazu raten.

I've driven them, they are fine at higher speeds and are quite reliable if taken care of. Hope that helps.

Do not worry. The car is designed for these speeds.

The car handles perfectly fine at 200+ kmh. If you don't have the m sport suspension you feel the softness quiet strongly but it still feels safe at these speeds

@@youraveragejoe1 I've had it coming on 4 years and 22.5k of the 52.5k miles are miles i put on. I get about 3ompg mixed if I go easy on it, 24city and up to 44 highway. Runflat tyres are eyewateringly expensive (mine are extra wi______de) and there's no spare. Got my first check engine light this week. Car has 8x 1oo% dealership service stamps and I change the oil every year. A light service is £2oo and a heavy service is £6oo but that's dealership. Booked in for the car doctor on Thursday - I'm hoping the issue is due to it being parked up most of the year and not an actual serious one. It's low miles, but it is 1o years old. If it's an O2 sensor is 2oo part then prob 2 hours labour. If it's plugs bot so bad, but a coil pack I'm expecting to get rid hard. Coil pack is a common issue on these. That said, there are 116i, even 135i out there with north of 125k miles and they run fine.

Would u recommend getting a 1.6? I can’t get the 2.0 because of the insurance mainly and price

@@V1PERB3ATZ Yes it's still an awesome little car. The chassis is truly incredible, the next best thing to a sport car. But be very careful on the maintenance schedule. The 1.6 is really unreliable and the injectors and spark plugs are very sensitive. Always respect the warmup timing before you go. Other electrical parts always break down too. I still love mine, but it's far from reliable for such a slow engine.

I’m 19 and live in London so insurance would be crazy but I’ve heard that the 1.6 116i is apparently “shit” is it true or just hating?

@@V1PERB3ATZ The 1.6 is slow for the chassis on which it's based on. The car can easily handle three times the power no problem. Sometimes you lose speed while cornering flat out. The car has enormous amounts of grip (especially on the right tire) for such a little engine. Same thing for part's prices. It's ok for a BMW, but really expensive for an engine this slow. A Renault Clio with the same acceleration numbers costs half to maintain. Oh and btw, avoid BMW service centers. They're crazy expensive and quite incompetent (at least here in France).

@threer02 Are you sure that you are on the 6th speed at the 140km/h and 3500 rpm? My 2010 e90 320i at this engine rpm level (3500) is at 170 km/h.

Johannes Hofer zu welchem Preis? Finde in meiner Umgebung nur sehr Teure für 13-15k oder eben welche mit 200-300tkm

Johannes Hofer ja okay das klingt aufjedenfall gut den hätte ich wohl auch genommen. Hab nun nen Mercedes Benz CLK 200Kompressor 2006 für 7.590€ weil ich einfach leider Gottes keinen Gescheiten 1er finden konnte.. Keine Frage auch n tolles Auto aber verguckt hatte ich mich in nen 1er :D

I'd say 180 is still pretty comfortable, but the fuel consumption at this speed is like over 9l/100km

I think a comfortable speed for the 116i is 140-150.. more than this and the wind noise is too much and the handling degrades a lot

Best cruising speed is approx. 110-120 km/h. Lower fuel comsumption (7l/100km) and quiet. Of course you can drive 170-180, but i dont think so it’s comfortable for longer cruises.

In my 118i Facelift on the Autobahn when i want to cruise Drive 160-170kmh and its perfect With the normal suspension on my new eibach pro kit its better but original its still good

Yeah, I have one myself, it isn’t remapped but I have been offered to get mine remapped

i drive 116 to 180km/h,it's very stable

unless this is the actual 1.6 version then the 2ltr version is a detune of the 120i.

the 116i version with the 2ltr engine has the same output, but more torque. i guess bmw detuned the engine to make it a better replacement for the 1.6 block, but not to match the full tuned 120i
