Nice work as always, please get your customer to double check with his bmw dealer if he has a outstanding recall on his EGR cooler. BMW have a massive recall on them due to them leaking coolant. I would suspect if there is a recall for it he'll get a new 1 just by looking at how sooted it is inside. Also they'll proform a full software upgrade to help engine run better and give advanged warning of engine problem PS i am a bmw tech lol
After 15 years driving diesels, and cleaning carbon build up out of egr valves, turbos and dpf, I’ve gone back to petrol power. Diesel is too much hassle nowadays with all the euro 6 pollution control systems that cause cars to break down far too often.
Yep, a work colleague's 18-plate 3 Series had it replaced under recall a bit before Christmas. I gather this isn't the first time BMW has issued such a recall.
i got recall done twice. 2019 and 2023. After recall this code 290900 was gone for 3 months. After 4th it started. Both times. Then I cleaned DPF and suddenly code is gone. From october 23 till april 24 and since then I got this code still. Replaced everything. Turbo, manifold, decarbo, MAF,MAP,EGR, cleaned dpf, had smoke test 3 times. Nothing.
Cleaning egr valve and egr cooler, and need also cleaning intake manifold catalytic converter dpf cleaning. I'm doing this job above KM 80000. In India🇮🇳. After cleaning I'm check vehicle pick up 0 to 100 in just 6 to 7 second 👍👍 and also u r doing this work, upload very knowledgeable video thank you for this God bless you🙏
well sorted jimmy, i must admit i would take the egr off and give it a dam good clean rather that pay 400-500 quid for a new one, but depends how much money you want to throw at it
BMW aka Bring My Wallet! Luckily he got the EGR cooler at the front to work on. The VW/Skoda are bad for egr coolers to go and the actuator to be stuck stiff. Sometimes a small round 6M spanner and WD40 free the badgers right up. Did this video the other week to show others ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hfaPJRDA5Bo.htmlsi=pLMj1DhSxrgCTOK2
There's no smoke without a fault 😁 This video reminds me of the 2010 BMW 330D that I bought. Just after buying it I was getting intermittent hesitation / misfire type engine running rough. Took it to my local BMW specialist who informed me that a non genuine BMW EGR valve had been fitted within the last 10,000 miles and that he strongly recommended the fitting of genuine EGR's which should last about 100,000 miles on that engine. With the new BMW EGR, the car has been running fine for 15,000 miles now. Moral of the story: sometimes it's better to fit genuine BMW parts. Or as in this 318D example, to up-engineer cheapo parts. 😃
I had a Mercedes 19 years I changed just the battery C200 Estate now I wouldn't give any German my penny for any vehicle absolutely s*** mind you saying that which is any good vehicle except Honda Lexus and Toyota
Excellent troubleshooting as always. Where did you purchase Smoke Tester and roughly how much was it? A good friend of mine made one which burned Baby Oil, Works a Treat !!
You need to be careful with vaporised baby oil (or any other vaporised oils), if you breath that in you can develop a really nasty disease called Lipoid pneumonia.
Hi not related to this video but had a look through your transit videos. Im getting code p242d egt sensor 3. Replaced the sensor and the code wont clear is this something you have come accross?
Check for 5 volts at the sensor. If there is 5 volts, don’t presume it’s good. Check the pin security of the wiring harness where the sensor is plugged in, it is at the gearbox. The pins have been known to be insecure and pull out the back of the multi plug when tugged. Also I believe there is a service function that needs reset after one of the temperature sensors on a transit are replaced but I can’t remember which one, maybe try this first as it should be the easiest. Good luck
