Why didn't you give the oil time to sink to sump between checking dipstick no wonder you used 6 litre of oil when manual says 5.4 i think and also why rev car straight away when starting ?
Computer is calculating when oil must be changed again. Something around 20.000 Km with my driving. Not needed to flush the engine....even after 2.000 Km the oil is pitch black again
Hi mate there’s no centre bit in my oil cap it’s just the cap itself is it supposed to have the plastic piece that goes in the middle of the filter on it?
hi...i'm working in denmark and i have a e91 ,318d ,143hp.....and i was reading on the internet about some problems with the timing chain?...can you tell me something about that?
I hear'd about it but don't really believe in it. The internet can easy join people in groups all stating some common problem and make it major problem. Like swirl flaps on the E46 diesel engines. BMW is selling thousands of cars and of cause problems will happen.Just because I need to change a water pump and 100 other have to change the water pump, does not make all 1 million BMW having bad water pumps. Internet just makes problems more visible. It's just like I saw some Tesla S owners who said their hood bends if you smack it too hard due to aluminium is softer than iron......and suddently all model S hoods will bend.
Good luck. BTW: If you should ever get timing chain fail, you don't have to take the engine out of the car. There are methods to do it way faster and keep it simple :)
but if i will have a timing chain fail a know that a lot of things it will be broken on the engine.....its a very expensive job...and very expensive parts.....BTW where do you live?
Timing chains doesn't just break, they start to make a lot of noise. The chain can be replaced by only removing the top cover and connect the new to the old and pull it through the engine. Not more expensive than replacing a timing belt in most cars.Live in very south of Denmark.I wouldn't worry about it....just listen once in a while, and if it sounds ok which it does in most cars, then just leave it.
M47 are the better engine. My friend have e60 with n47 engine. He changed engine 3 times because of the chain krush and damage the engine. N47 and N42 N43 are just garbage.
I've got a N47 D20 in my E90 LCI and just hit 200k miles, original Turbo, timing chain, gearbox and clutch (not even a hint of timing chain noise). It's seems to be a complete lotto with the earlier pre-LCI ones.
