Great video! Anyone interested this is the same process for the 2021 430i. The only difference is you don't need to move the wiring harness to get the filter out. Just changed my oil a few days ago as I never wait for 10k miles to have my oil changed. I do it every 5k and have the dealership do it the next time while it is under maintenance plan. Just don't reset the oil light or they will not change the oil as the car must alert BMW to have it changed. Found this out the hard way. :)
I wish I saw your post before I reset my oil light. I changed the oil at 1000 miles and then again at 5000. I figured I'd have them do it at 10,000. I guess I'll do it again at 10, 000 and they'll do it at 15,000.
Won't this void your warranty as I want to do the oil change myself but its under warranty. My car is on 10k miles now but their interval said its due at up to 18k!
@@Freddels1 FYI...The dealership advised me the other day if it's been 12 months without an oil change at the dealership they will do it if you reset the light. My service advised advised me not to let them know you changed the oil and the reset was done by mistake.
The B46/48 engines take 5.25 liters, which is 5.6 US quarts... (in video you said 5.3L and 5.7 qts, probably close enough but those are the correct numbers)
I have a 2019, 330 I and I just changed the oil using Liqi Moly 0w-30 instead of 0w-20. I live in northern California in case you are wondering about the climate where I live.
Awesome video, very clear instructions, so I just bought a 2019 CPO 330i xdrive with about 20k miles, are there any issues with these vehicles that I should be aware of with the cars, I plan on keeping it past the warranty
Thank you sir for the video. I have a 2011 328i N52 engine with 125k. I do all the maintenance and repairs on my own. Very easy to maintain. My wife loves the X3. Eventually I am going to have to buy it for her 😂. Have you replaced any water pumps, thermostats or radiators with this model? If so how difficult is it compared to 328i.
Water pumps yew, thermostats and radiators no, e9x vehicle water pumps are harder to replace than the newer ones, the thermostats are too. The radiators of both are about the same.
First thank you for a great video on how to change oil on bmw that I just bought for my daughter so I can do it now. My question is can I use any 0-20 synthetic oil or do I have to use BMW’s oil only? Costco makes a great 0-20 full synthetic and want to use that. Thank you in advance.
Aslong as it meet the BMW oil spec you can use it. Amsoil makes some of the best oil out there, give them a try! I know for a fact their oil meets the spec required.
Thanks for this video! I am coming from owning an E36, E39, E46, current 2017 F25 N20 and newly purchased 2018 B46 330i CPO. I am going to remove the 0-20 fuel economy oil and go with 5-30 Liqimoly like I use on our X3. My question is, can I follow your video for the oil change on my B46 F30? I assume it is basically the same? I have no problems working on the old BMW's, but I get a little nervous when it is not something I'm familiar with. Thanks! Also, subbed!
Quick question for you. My daughter has a 2020 330i sedan. She had the oil changed but the tech did not know how to reset the oil warning light. The sequence to reset you have in the video doesn't work for her car. Is there something else or does she have to go to the dealer to have it reset with their scan tool? Thanks in advance.
@@THEDriverMod_ Yes sir. 3 quick presses of the start-stop button, let the diagnostics screen pop up on display (where speedometer), then held the BC button for a long time and never got it to change. So, I tried again, timed myself holding the BC button for 2 minutes with no change, and then got my daughter to try. Neither one of us had any luck.
@THEDrivenMod_ - I ended up taking the car to a German car specialist shop. The owner says BMW had the oil reset code locked, and the only way to reset it was with a computer. He had an Autel. I didn't get the model separate. but it was wireless with a unit plugged into the OBD2 port and the "screen" separate. Do you know if there is a way to break the code like jailbreaking cell phones?
Hello, I’ve been looking at this specific model for a while now and just wanted to know if you know of any issues about this car, how hard it is to work on, and if there’s anything to look out for. Thanks!
Have not seen anything crazy yet. The powertrain itself has been out for several years and have proven to be quite reliable. The G20 3 series has only been out for about a year and a half so long term as far as the rest of the vehicke can't really speculate on that yet
Hello and thank you for good video. I have question about that valve sticking out from oil filter. How you should align that oil filter / valve in oil filter housing before tightening cap?
I get the car in diagnostic mode but when I hold down BC button the oil change menu never pops up. I have a 2020 330ix…any idea what’s wrong? Held down for 30 seconds…
Hey I got a quick question, how often should I do an oil change? I have the same exact car and I dropped it off at the dealer and he made it seem criminal that I haven’t changed it for 3,000 miles. I’ve read you go up to 7,000 before needing a change. He also tried to sell me on getting some shit replaced but he hadn’t even looked at my car yet. He seemed full of shit.
I mean if you're using a good full synthetic, 5-7k is perfectly fine. Thank you for your question! What was recommended and how many miles does the vehicle have?
@@THEDriverMod_ Yup, I’m using good synthetic oil. The recommendation was to perform an “engine oil system cleaning” service so I believe that would just be similar to getting a flush. It has around 22,000 miles on it. Thank you for getting back so quick!
Of course, I do the best I can. If the vehicle is over due for service, we always recommend a service like that. Nothing out of the ordinary. The intervals are already sooo long that when they come in are over due it's like "really dude".
@@THEDriverMod_ Exactly. I’m just getting the usual service from the BMW dealership which is covered under my maintenance plan. Thanks for the response and clarification!!
At 0:46 there’s a some kind of sensor up top near the oil cap. Yellow wires connect to it. On my car there’s oil residue around that area. Do I need to replace o- ring or the whole sensor?
my instrument cluster has began to glitch to a blue screen showing only warning lights thens goes to black. it will glitch from normal screen to black out. what's the cause ?
I'm not sure what exactly it does other than help seal and modulate oil pressure to the vanos but the filter housing will only screw on if that plastic end piece is correctly seated. That's why I tighten the filter but hand until I feel the filter align inside
hey buddy can i pick your brain for a sec. same car 2019 330i xdrive, did rear pads and rotors on it. replaced the sensor like aways. this sensor was tripped due to it being cut in half some how. but i can not for the life of me rest the rear brakes and the "replace rear brake pads" will not go away. i have tried through the BC cluster and it doesnt even give me any option. unless im missing something here. i cant find anything in my autel to let me reset it, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an F36 and my manual says 0w-20 or 0w-30, I’m thinking of going with the 0w-30 at my next dealer service- I live in Louisiana so I think I would be ok.
this was Pennzoil but personally and professionally i recommend Amsoils 0w-20 European formula if you are anywhere where it gets below 40 degrees. if you are somewhere that it remains above that throughout the year, i recommend their 0w-30 European Formula. I can provide you with a link to purchase if youre interested: premiumsyntheticsusa.myamsoil.com/
When you first start the car up, if it has alot of smoke at start up, then the oil level is too high and getting past the bottom side drain of the turbo, also if the oil level is high enough that under hard braking it moves to the forward part of the oil pan and actually hits the bottom of the crankshaft and slows it down causing the oil pressure light to come on. Too many variables.
If you wanna check the oil, you gotta do it while being in the driver seat, I installed BMW connected app it always tells me about my vehicle and it’s location
New oil filter was installed in a wrong way. Because of this small nipple with oring on a bottom part of the filter You should first insert it to oil filter base, find the right position so that it will match the right slot and then screw the oil filter cap. Otherwise it is possible to squeeze the oil filter, or cruch this nipple and disturb filtration process.
Have A 2021 330i after pressing 3 times and the bc button only a menu comes up on the screen with options like showroom mode, diagnostics etc. any suggestions?
