@@YTkingcherry haha same I have a F30 the newer model before they switch body styles and that 2.0 eats the 5.7 mine is a bit faster than stock lol my friend with the 5.7 RT called his other friend who has a 6.4 scat in he barely beat me by a half of car then I was like my f30 2.0T is 15k fully loaded the scat is like 40k 6.4 v8 lol so I did pretty good
I can see many dodge enthusiasts here. For me I wanted to see if the base 330i all wheel drive was as fast as the charger r/t. What I saw was two daily drivers battling it out. One gets over 40mpg ( tested through a youtuber ) highway and the other gets 25 ( I havent seen any videos of highway fuel tests for the charger r/t. Im considering both of these cars for future purchase. For me it seems like the newer bmws have really come a long way in terms of reliability with these newer motors ; The ( b48 motor ) 330i, and the scat pack equivalent ( b58 motor ) the m340i. Im not a bmw enthusiast or a mopar enthusiast, but I do own an 05 Ram Hemi truck, and for the most part it runs just fine except a weird intermittent turn signal light failure and the 12mpg. All in all dodge seems like a solid choice if mpg is not an issue, but bmw might be good too.
@@Russ0435 if I’m not mistaken can’t the b48 take massive amounts of boost and hp on stock block since it’s the exact same engine internally as the b58 with forged rods pistons and forged crankshaft only thing is it has 2 less cylinders??
B48 with updated high pressure fuel pump can do 350hp on stock internals and 450hp with upgraded turbo while still getting 32mpg hwy. Reason is the closed deck block design and forged components. Ignition system is pretty robust too.
Great video and channel. First time here and it was fun to watch because I have an f30 330 xdrive with some mods - Dinan exhaust, intake, coil overs, charge pipe, and stage 2 EMS from RaceChip. And I can confirm that the 330 can indeed take a 5.7 Charger 😀👍
The curb weight is about 1000 lb difference, which in general (I'm talking very generally..) 100 lbs is about 10hp. Think the cars were pretty evenly matched up. charger makes a ton more torque in the low end so its mucj harder to get it to launch right. I'm assuming the stock 245s were on there but with 295s or a 305 would walk this bmw even with the perfect awd launch.
thats docent necessarily mean anything. a lot depends on suspension. my 335 was seminal feeling to what u described. but my girls 2011 sonata _feels_ fast dong some 50 rolls or something similar lol
And this isn't the 340M which supposed to be his competition and the 330i x drive gave run for his money 🤑💰. Good work BMW Bavarian those it again good vid Sam.
@@dnegel9546 yup! You get it. Most things dodge makes are good cruisers with a little extra. I had a '13 charger interceptor with the 5.7 and all the police gear was removed (weighed like an rt then) and with the more aggressive rear gearing it moved pretty well. But still! It was more of a cruiser with a great soundtrack from the motor. Lovely car.
I honestly think that dodge never intended for the rt to be that fast to sell more of the more expensive scat packs especially when you look at the fact that rt's come with a 2.62 open diff and it doesn't have the short runners like the scat also the exhaust manifold looks to be pretty restrictive just my speculation I could completely wrong
@@thetrollwhoknows9928 I was actually about to put a 3.90 lsd in my charger but I was afraid that it would be overkill especially since I mainly use my car for traveling so I went with the 3.09 lsd it made a big difference
An NA, time-tested v8 gives your right foot more layered feelings when giving the gas and much more than a cheap B48 could offer, unless you live in a miserable region with hard regulations on emissions
Want to see lots o walking? The Scat Pack's (+ another 115 hp) MSRP is still cheaper than the 330i xDrive.. and that's not including all the typical rebates you get from Dodge.. if you wanted more apples to apples..
The R/T does high 4s 0-60 the way they were launching a scat wouldn't stand a chance either. A R/T on a roll with take a x43amg and a x40i all day. The R/T should have 0 issues taking the 330xi with launch control set at 1500rpms
The Dodge makes the rated horsepower. The reason this race is close is because the BMW is underrated. It makes about 290-300 horsepower at the crank, not 255. All of BMWs turbocharged models have been like this, for the past 10-12 years.
My experience with modern BMW 4 cylinder turbos is they are extremely fun around town, but ultimately lose steam on the top end causing them to get beat by bigger motors. The newer b46/48 engines are quite nice.
Good choice on the R/T and as much as I like the V6, it would lose to the BMW. And I don't know why people say the R/T is slow it has a good amount of power.
Because people see V8 and Dodge and they don’t realize dodge doesn’t even consider the RT as a performance engine . It’s literally just a mid tier option that dodge offers
@@B58Kepple ever heard of drag racing for fun ? why you’re taking everything so seriously dude like chill. Want equal races as you stated go watch his other video accord 2.0T (4cyl) identical hp like the 330i “and being fwd the accord” if you’re that triggered if that makes more sense to you. at the end of the day The guy is putting so much effort for us so we can enjoy his drag races weekly
@@chill5251 he’s a clown? Look at your channel 😂 maybe you’re the clown. He wasn’t even wrong either, he was pulling ahead and he uttered the words, then the charger came back. Maybe think twice about calling someone else a clown when you’re a complete fool
@DJ yup they're pricey to build but plenty people pushing 700+ to the wheels costs money though. But plenty people doing it. Bolt ons and a supercharger your pushing way past a scatpack and closer to a hellcat on these motors.
@@mys2knotyours The Accord lost to the 330i in Sport mode and that’s the only mode that matters. Comfort mode in a 330i is designed for maximum comfort, not drag racing.
@@layne4376 Incredibly fast stock my recent kill was against a Indian challenge performance bagger! I'm pretty sure he thought his brand new bike would beat a car but we raced a quarter mile and he couldn't get around me in comfort mode!😄
Love seeing these runs with the RT....but could you do some cars in the same weight class? For its weight I think the RT has good everyday power. But it's constantly being compared to way lighter/smaller cars.
@@CoachD4 I am a 19 year firefighter/emt. The thin red/blue line is a tribute to all my fallen firefighter/law enforcement brothers and sisters. Maybe you should ask, instead of jumping to conclusions.
if you own a bmw (f30) at least then you know that if you put it in sport then turn traction off it’s no longer in sport. use SPORT+ if you want traction off and put the (ZF8) transmission into manual for no delayed shifts and you’re gapping that rt buddy trust me. you can also get bm3 stage 1 without any mods but that’s another story 😮💨
I was thinking the same. I have a 330 that’s currently on stage 2 and if I run e30 I can keep up with scats. So I’d say the bmw is the better choice just because you can tune the bmw to much higher power.
bmw always come stock very underpowered for some reason, they always tune them down. @jayson on my F22 M235i when i turn traction completely off it goes into sport automatically, also with the Bm3 ZF8 transmission flash, it turns the car into a different monster lol
The rwd 330i gaps scats in the top end, still launches better than them, no idea why hes comparing the xdrive to the charger, theres no snow or rain, and the rwd version is faster
@@clpauto3710 not all chargers are slow. And if you put a turbo or a supercharger on it like the k5 is then it would be in a whole other world of performance.
For the bmw literally only having a tiny 2.0 liter 4 cylinder still weighing 3800 lbs down 115 horsepower and still keeping up like that is just a fat L for the dodge
@@cw2840 turbo 4s are really fucking impressive IF they're tuned correctly and BMW absolutley nailed the tuning of their 4 cylinder especially in the new 128ti
U made a mistake about launching the BMW. In order to engage launch control, first u need to drive the car for 10 minutes uninterrupted. Then put the car in sport+ and gearbox to S mode. Then left foot and the break right foot on the gas gently and just before take off u should push the gas to the max and “kick it down”. Anything other than this is not launch control.
5.7s are very restricted from factory. Just a cam, headers, 3.09 gears, intake and youre looking at atleast a 100hp gain. Really wakes these engines up
I agree with your statement in that they are restricted from factory. But “just” a cam, headers, and new rear end gearing? I get it, trust me the same has been said for LS engines for decades. And with a knowledgeable tuning shop, they can make it happen pretty quickly, but the word “just” seems to downplay how much of a change this actual is.
Hi, Thank you for an interesting drag race. Would it be possible to use the BMW M340i instead of the BMW 330i. That should be a much closer affair. Also, thank you for keeping it civil and clean. i consider crude language a tad barbaric, just because one's emotions are elevated. Keep it up. Once again thank you for an interesting duel. Regards, Warren Nasson South Africa.
Love the HEMI. Just can't stand to look at anymore narrow body chargers 😨😱🤢🤣. The widebody scatpack is where it's at for me. No way dodge is making the 5.7 a widebody. I wouldn't see a point in that.
People get legit mad at me when I tool them up in my 330i, it's stock, 100%. And the thing is, even if they catch up and beat me - I still have a BMW, and they don't ;)
Chargers are slow if 3 litre bmw treatin it like dat too many Americans over rate the charger Bmw and Mercedes’ much better and build quality better a charger a peice of s I still want one though but need to keep the bmw
Charger and challenger are two cars i wouldn't ever buy even if they were half priced The interior/ exterior is so outdated and the performance is mediocre if it barely beat a 4 cylinder 330i with 255hp 💀
A rwd 330 bmw (less weight and parasitic drag) would probably be right with or ahead of the charger for every single race. The 100+ hp on paper difference isn't real. It's probably more like 50 difference as the dodge is overrated in hp, and the bmw is underrated. The hemi also is unimpressive in low end torque. I have owned 4 hemis. The 5.7 hemi has not impressed me in anything that I've driven it in. Once you get to the 6.1 and 6 4 hemi, then it's a different story.
A 2 liter turbo 4 that gets 40mpg on the highway, has much better driving dynamics, and a better interior, keeps up with a r/t? I had no idea that the r/t was that slow. It’s like you have to get a scat or above to have fun in that car the only thing it has over the bmw is sound
Xdrive makes the BMW heavier and slower. Not good. And modes has no sense: if you give full gas in comfort mode, the car will be the same as sport mode.
For everyone that thinks their Charger is fast… and the 2.0 liter Accord was faster than the BM… a stock Honda 4 banger will walk your stock R/T.. shows what a marketing campaign done well it is! They put monstrous HP and sticky tires in an old taxi chassis… lookout hooligans! They’re too easy to drive is the issue.. when the viper came out, 400hp would kill you because it was up to you to keep the thing straight.. advance 20 years, double the horsepower, and children have become what appears to be drift legends (there EASY to drive fast)
Please. I've outrun HEMI anything all day every day with my 330ix. Those RAM guys just don't get it. Used to do the same in my MINI CooperS as well. Again, it's always the RAM or Dodge guys. If that Bimmer was in the 18" wheels, it would have been a little faster.
Honestly a nice light tune and like 600 in parts and the 330i walks the dog with this one vs the charger gonna need a little more than 600 BUT bmws gonna be more expensive to fix later on 😂
Sorry, but the drivetrains of US Cars are so terrible bad, except of a Corvette maybe… what a shame! Acceleration, handling, just everything! What is wrong in thiis industry?
The Dodge in this race is still cheaper than the M330i.. Is a Large car.. Not a sub compact like the 3 series.. So despite having 115 hp extra horsepower.. Has a significant weight and size disadvantage and no AWD.. This evens the playing field..
