Typical Germans always lying about their 0-60 numbers :D I was expecting 3.8-3.9 seconds, which is just nuts as usual from BMW and their master craftsmanship.
Nah, not supercar, but way quicker than expected. 0,7 secs either mean they were REALLY pessimistic rating the acceleration (maybe leaving (a lot of) room for the M4) or the engines spread a lot and this one does to the top end. But in general, acceleration values are like fuel consumption values. Both are underrated...
BMW officially claimed time is a joke. I would think it's irresponsible. Because literally all tests show a result like 0.7 second faster than they claimed. It's a big difference. I don't think it's a good thing. If you are fast, just claimed how fast you are. Customers don't want play games.
I bought a 440i M xdrive yesterday, used 2021, 14k miles. I like it , I have zero issues with the grill. maybe 2 yrs ago when it first came out it was more undesirable.
When Mat sat in front of the grill at 14:00 that front end looked really good. I will admit that the bigger grill in black or that gray color is growing on me.
Okay, so at launch I hated this, but now... I BLOODY LOVE IT! I love it so much in fact that I’ve gone ahead and ordered one to replace my A5 daily driver!

I agree with you totally about the external appearance - the car looks good, great in places except for around the rear wheel where it looks a bit bloated. I loved the profile of its predecessor.
It's a great car and very driver focused if you don't want a full-blown M4. I like the new BMW design grill. Not to mention the engine it is absolutely sublime
I bought a 420D M sport Plus with tech plus pack . I like it as much as the 840D. Simply brilliant. Comfortable , fast, quiet, looks stunning ( my mate thought it was the 8 series) .... and 60mpg / 600mile range from a 65L tank .
Prior Design is working on some interesting front bumpers for m3 + m4 and they look great. This on the other hand... A face that only a mother could love.
There is no way that car has only 374 HP and can do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. This thing must be MASSIVELY underrated for torque and horsepower. Not sure why BMW underrates their engines so much. They would sell more if everyone knew how powerful they actually are.
I think Germans do that because they want don't want to subvert customer's expectations even in the worst case scenario. So 374 HP is very conservative, since we know it'll probably do maybe 400 HP or more, but they just keep it lower so that customers get what they expect. But I love how Germans underrate their engines :D
There are multiple reasons why. For one insurance is often lower for cars with less BHP and for bmw you are going to need every bit of help you can with insurance. It’s also for tax reasons certain countries tax vehicles based on power output and engine displacement so it helps keeps costs down. And then it also helps their reputation, it’s such a well known “secret” that they produce more power than they say they do so it makes people subconsciously trust the brand more. It also means that they don’t have to buy back the car if the horsepower is substantially lower if they underestimate it.
If they're shocking to start with, is it actually good design or do you just fanboy yourself into liking it? Anyway I'm thinking M3 with whatever replacement grille looks best.

I have had more BMWs then any other make of car, me personally love the new grill but I understand why people are shocked by it, but BMWs always grow on people and I’m sure everyone will love the look of it after a while, if I had the money I’d be more then happy to get this car
I was skeptical about the new look. I hated the new grille until I test drove a M440i at a BMW event in New Jersey. I saw the grille in-person and it’s not bad. People felt the same way about the E9x and E6x, but 15+ years down the road and they aged well. Who knows, maybe 15 years later, the grille might age well.
Even though the design is uglier than the old 4 series, the fact that BMW is still improving performance is incredible. I prefer this rather than audi prioritizing looks.
I actually like this grille. Much better than I have seen in previous designs. It's not the best looking but I can live with it. The performance is in full blown M territory. This is insanely fast
When I first saw the 4 series I was a bit disturbed by that grill, but this one actually looks so good. Still looks shit in chrome on a light coloured car

1:10 - the saving grace on THIS version of the grille is that the outline is dark/body colored instead of being a contrasting silver which makes it stand out too much. the dark outline thus mimics the styling on the FULL M Coupe and Sedan which don't have a seperate outline at all, the openings are blended directly into the body color.
@Seamus McShamish that’s not true bruh take it from me. Of the 6 bmws owned in my life not a single one has ever had a major issue. They’re great cars because of the performance and driving passion they offer. the M cars are the fastest cars in their class and really are an experience like no other to drive. The reliably is just a lame stereotype joke like so many others. They’re expensive car an needs to be properly maintained. When people don’t perform proper maintenance because they feel it’s too expensive that’s when things get sketchy. A real enthusiast understands this though
The tech is amazing, performance amazing, interior amazing. The exterior has missed the mark. The front end is just nope and the rear looks like a lexus.
I've owned 16 BMWs over the years and still have one, but regularly drive my Mustang GT Premium, loaded, including Recaros, 19" rims, blah, blah. Price was a big point of consideration, but styling considerations were the tipping point.
Matt, you’re always raving about big storage size in the door for a bottle. I drove a M440i x drive today; I hated them! They were continually pinching my lower left side of my leg (left hand drive car) during a long journey. Glad I drive a car we’re a big bottle doesn’t fit. But nice car, especially the engine in sports mode is epic.
This is a master class on how “winners” dictate taste and style. Objectivity ugly... yet no one cars because of the badge. They will ignore all features that they would distain on a lesser badge and eventually convince themselves to like it.

In that colour, that grille is actually growing on me. Maybe if the top was lower so it matched the line of the lights it would look better but I really dont hate it anymore. Think when I start seeing them on the road I'll know but I think it will grow on me.

They just thought hmm we have our kidney grills, if we make them bigger people willthink the car is even cooler or sportier. The grills from audi or ford look soooo much better in respect to the rest of the car. These grills look like the pigs from angry birds
