I have a 8 series coupe and am looking into trading it for a gran coupe so have watched tens of reviews, this is clearly one of best two I have come across. Warm congratulations to the author, very competent and charming!
And No2, haha, lovely review as always. 8 series GC is the best looking BMW currently in the fleet. If I can afford to spend 300k on a car, I will buy an M850i.
@@chasingcars I love that colour too, but I recommend it in another green: Verde Ermes is a very expressive colour that is, as far as I know, actually a Lamborghini paint, but it is changing from very dark to very splendid depending on the light. This colour combined with the Individual wheels and the Ivory White/Tartufo interior is an absolute dream combination for me.
Thanks for the review. I really love the look of this. I was going to preorder the i4m50 but now I get this car instead. It will be my last petrol car that I plan to hold for the next 10-15 years.
Another excellent review, probably a car Id never buy but nice to see BMW doing a freat product - the interior shots looked so light and airy - I rate it. And nice camera work and location 👍
I live in the U.K. and this channel and carwow is helpful because I like to see how a car would look if I bought it in the U.K. As in steering wheel on the right.
Stunning vehicle and informative review, Tom, thanks. I like that you opined your choice of the 6-cylinder vs. V8. Would really love to see more (some?!?) of the infotainment system, should you get the opportunity. Thanks again.
I feel like your production quality improves with ever review you make (Sound/picture/camera direction). Thank you for puting in the time and effort that appears to match or even exceed the quality of the car your reviewing.
I'm only halfway through the video but I'm going to leave this here. The 840i is amazing but since it's based on the 7 series and the 6 series was a "5 series coupe" this is significantly more expensive than the 6 series was. The price difference is not really justified in my opinion. You could buy a new 1 series just with the difference in money!
Great channel love how u talk about the 840d which is not even available in ur country but others peoples countries! And the steering wheel comment about it being tan shoes how in detail u go!
Its basically meant for the ppl who are looking to add one more to their 10 car garage.. so its all style that counts...they would probably have different cars for different needs
Its not when the 4door version of a car designed from the ground up to be a coupe is equally as striking. Both the coupe and GC are gorgeous cars. Thankfully (or sadly) im not rich enough to have to chose between the two. #richpeopleproblems
i just bought one of these, the coupe version though. it's purely down to marketing from bmw. if the 840i was called the m840i and had the same engine as the m340i it would take away sales from the m850i. they can't put the same engine in the 840i as it's not an m lite car as there's already an m lite car for the 8 series; the m850i. really it's the same b58 engine it's just slightly detuned on the 840i. still plenty fast though and a great car
@@andrewvaughan5686 850i has 390kw, it's hardly stepping on the toes of its big brother! M340i has 'only' 90kw less than the M3, give the 840i 285kw as well, it would still be down on power by 105kw
@baysidelad1 they would have to call it the m840i then, but there's already an m lite 8 series. Its not so much about the numbers but rather having the M badging, bmw realized they could sell more cars by putting the M on more cars, thats why they came up with the m240i, m340i etc. It's a bit frustrating I know but if someone wanted to tune it, I'm pretty sure you can get close to 500hp from the b58 easily. I'm not because it's plenty fast for me already and want to keep the warranty.
If it wasn't for the arm storage console that exrended all the way to the rear seats and taking away the midle rear seats it would have been a near perfect overall package. The fact that they make this a 4 seater only they could have make the two rear way more luxurious and comfortable, remove the arm rest in place of a better controls and storage features
Looks good, forgot how nice they actually are. How many kilometres can you get out of a tank Tom? Thanks. The only thing that annoys me is all of the chimes that go off when you open the door etc?
Looks majestic from the outside, sharp lights, handsome wheels, sleek body, and a gorgeous view at the back. And then come the interior, I was literally squinting eyes and said "YIKES". That color scheme reminds me of muscle specimen in high school clinic, or 2006 Maserati quattroporte which isn't my personal favourite (I mean the interior not exterior), just go with either milky white or black, or that color I call human flesh, make up your mind please
I do like the new 8 series, but in some case, the 6 is better. For example, the driver oriented dashboard layout is way more better at the 6. But 8 does have a better rear room space and a better driving experience. Although i still do prefer the 6 from the 8 because it’s still have a strong driver oriented experience (especially the dashboard layout, since the 8 dashboard is only angle toward you a bit) and a massive pointy grill, which not my favorite, sorry BMW
Hellow and thank you for showing as a dream car. I am sorry for not listening your comments, no need, car it self is speechless. Many thanks you lucky man.
No BMW will not use this as their 7 series because the purpose of the 8 series is to use the same underpinnings to create a vehicle that appeals more to emotions so they can charge a LOT more for it. Simple as that.
You do notice the additional refinement in the 5 Series - it’s quieter, mainly. That said, I prefer the size of the 3 Series, and it’s still a very premium vehicle that rides extremely well on adaptive dampers, so I’d be buying a 330i.
Chasing Cars thanks for reply, Tom. I’ll be in the market in a couple of months and I’m tossing up between the new 3 and the 5. I have a baby on the way and was also considering either an SQ5 of X3 M40i, but I generally prefer sedans.
Awesome review as usual. Unfortunately, the interior colour combination is a bit jarring for me and it'll age Very quickly. I'd still choose the five series over this.
@@chasingcars but the porsche Panamera is selling. There must be something wrong with the 8. It's probably too expensive for a sedan replacing the 6 series
