BMW, ABS, DSC, Brake Warning Light, Problem 4x4, Battery Voltage Low, Loss of Time And Date 

What a great tip. These warning lights came on after my battery was disconnected and I was afraid I was in for some very costly repairs however after following the directions given in this video the warning lights went away and all was back to normal. Thank you

On my first try, looking on how to solve the problem of DTC & brake yellow light on dash, I found your post. My husband changed the battery that came with the car to a new and bigger battery, which worked better, we did not think that the other battery was the correct on. I was worried of the cost of taking it to have it service after the lights came on. We decided to look it up and found your video. I did what you suggested on turning the wheel all the way to the left, then right, and it worked.....I am very thankful for your post.

Sounds like battery voltage alright :) It would be worth doing a full charge when you can. This problem usually occurs at around 50% of battery strength. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! Thank you. Just changed the alternator in my 2003 BMW X5 and had the issue with the ABS and Brake light staying on... engine running rough and sometimes stalling. Couldn't figure out what the heck was the problem. Was thinking maybe I forgot to connect something. Watched your video and tried the staring wheel to the left and right thing and low and behold.... it worked. No more warning light and it now idles smoothly. Thanks again.

Hello Allan, The first thing to check is the battery cable connections to make sure both are secured and tight. Since you disconnected the negative you know that one is good so just double check the positive side. This may be a failing alternator which is what the vehicle runs off of once it is started. This can cause stalling but your BMW may also have a recall for a power cable to the fuse panel. Stop by your BMW shop and have them do a key read to see if your vehicle fits in the recall.

Hello, You can have a malfunction inside the transfer case that can lead to a failure and a different feel while driving. I have seen a lot of them fail for various internal failures.

Do the lights come on right at start up or do they come on while you are driving? Does your instrument cluster flicker or radio cut out while driving after about 30 minutes or so?

Hello, That helped to verify my suspician. You have the N62 engine on your E70. The N62 has a common failure with the alternators. This can lead to various electrical failures, over and under voltage issues, stalling and then a loss of voltage due to no charging. At times the problem can occur only after driving for about a half hour and it can be intermittent. This sounds like you will need to have your alternator replaced to correct this. I hope this helps :)

I did that but i think my problem is the sensor is missed up i think i missed up while i was changing my axle or maybe i need to get the alignment done but i tell this this nice video u deserve five stars here they are ★★★★★ ♔♔♔♔♔♥

Hello, The best way to check this is to use a volt meter and watch the power output at the jump terminal. You should see around 13 volts. Then turn all the lights, blower, radio, seat heater et. on and recheck. It should be able to hold charging voltage. If it starts to drop below 12.5 the alternator is most likely the problem. It would also be a good idea to have the codes scanned to see what codes have set with the lights coming on.

Thanks for posting this vid , got these lights on start up on my 2009 528XI after the temperature dropped to 13 degrees overnight , did the steering wheel full back and forth and lights are gone , luckily I didn't lose time and date

hi I did the steering movement two three times light stays it did not go but when I drove for 1 min the light goes away and didn't show off again and the turn signs are also turning off automatically every thing is solved thanks for your support it was a big help for me

The CD stack would be related to the radio problem in most cases. It may be that this is a bad amp or the radio head unit. Both are common along with the TCU. The Safety warning would be a different failure relating to either the airbag system or the module called the SIM safety information module. Usually this type of failure does require a trip to the dealer.

Thanks for the video. I got the DTC 49F2 on my 2006 E61, hopefully as a result of a weak battery (a reset of time and date) the day before. The DTC did not set directly after the start attempt and not even after the second start of the car. The DTC was set a couple km after I took it for a drive the day after. For me it didn't help turning the wheel. Driving above 30 km/h turned the fault code off. I will buy a new battery for the car :)

Try wiggling the steering wheel. If the key does not turn all the way it could be in the tumbler or column. I have also seen worn out keys do this but it is usually on high mileage BMW's.

Hello. This happened to me yesterday on my 2006 525xi. I went to go visit some family but I was outside sitting in the car rolling the windows up and down sometimes because I would get a little chilly. I played the radio off and on too but I started the car a couple of times as well. On the highway heading back the 4x4 AWD malfunction light came on. When I had exited to pull over somewhere I cut the car off and something told me to start it back up and when I tried it, it didn't start back up. I couldn't even lock the car with the remote switch so I did manually and left it there for a sec then I tried to unlock it with the key remote and it unlocked so I got back in and the car started up and loss time and date. Please tell me what's probably going on.

Hello Miranda, If turning the steering wheel from lock to lock does not work then there is a failure causing the warning lights. I would first check your brakes to make sure none of the brake pad sensors are worn through. Then you would need a scan to see what codes have set to identify the problem.

Depending on the model most power steering runs off the belt with the pump. Make sure your belts are still attached for the power steering and check the fluid level. The wipers can enter a failsafe mode which is constantly on and with the airbag light both of these items will require the vehicle to be scanned for codes to trace down the problem.

If the warning is present you have a code that needs to be scanned and corrected first. Usually only a key cycle will clear the DSC light unless you have a current problem.

Sounds different than a battery issue. The best step is to have the codes scanned and some tests run at the dealer for this type of problem. Too many things it could be so the scan and some test plans should help narrow things down for you. Best wishes!

While this may be a problem with the steering angle sensor, the DSC warning can come on for other reasons as well. Such as a bad wheel speed sensor, a yaw rate sensor, pressure sensor or any fault code that is stored in the DSC control unit. You will need to first have the vehicle scanned to read the codeout to find what the root cause may be. Not all scan tools can read DSC faults but a part store may be able to scan the code for free for you.

And if i have all those lights in my dashboard also with the transmission code i saw a lot of bmw x5 e70 owners have the same problem and i change the actuator like 8 months ago and now again the same but my bmw runs super super slow only with the front wheels and its like very heavy i cannot drive like that anymore but if i put on reverse i can drive fast, do you think thats normal problems with transfer case i cannot make my mw to get the 4x4 so i think its something inside of the transfer case or actuator (the motor gear parts that are like $20 dollars)

You may have a problem with the level sensor not reading correctly. Also with this repair I usually have to use the BMW tester to activate the compressor for filling. You may need the dealer to perform this fill procedure and reset the correct ride height.

HI,i have 2007 bmw m6,fixed a new battery on lately and now when i drive the car for 20 minutes it starts giving me a lot of warning messages and the steering wheel became hard and speedo meter jumps up and down!!! turn the engine off after a while i started and it is normal but after 20 minutes of driving i get all those warnings again!!! do you know what is the problem??thanks in advance.

This sounds like all faults and warnings relate to a failure in the ABS or parking brake system. This will need hands on diagnosis to fix as well as a scan using BMW software.

Hello Leroy, I have seen alternators cause problems after about 30 minutes of driving. You may have an over voltage problem but it would be worth having the codes scanned by a shop.

This could be due to a bad transfer case motor in the transfer case or the module under the front seat. Usually a component will need replacement to correct this type of problem.

If it is an E65 7 series it most likely is a MOST but problem. You would need to jump out control modules with a fiber optic jumper like in some of my MOST bus videos. I would start at the telephone control unit. It is a common one to cause problems.

Double check you battery connections, if good you should have the alternator checked when the symptom is present. It may be intermittently overcharging.

Thanks for your reply. It is an E65. Some other issues that are probably connected to the Radio problem are - Safty and Seat Belt Warning Lights permanently on in dashboard, right hand side of tv screen displays rolling patterns (when in split mode) and CD stack in dashboard not working. Can you give any further help! If not it looks like an expensive trip to a main dealer.

This sounds like a corruption in programming of a control unit or it may need replacement. You will need to use the dealer and have them try a full vehicle programming first. If there is a control module failing it will not allow programming and will help identify the failure better.

Hello, This may be a problem with the steering lock, voltage so you can try a jump start, an IBS problem (see my video about battery acid causing a no start), a CAS issue, a key problem, or a bad starter. Unfortunately there are a lot of things that cause the same symptoms. The starter failing is common however.

Hello, I have a 2010 BMW x5 e70 6 cylinder petrol engine in New Zealand. Car has original BMW battery (almost 10 years old) and had a dead flat battery which couldn't be even jump started with 2 jump starters. So I took the battery out and recharged it with a professional battery man. I reconnected the recharged battery and engine started but idrive/multimedia buttons are not working. After 3 weeks the car also shows "increased battery discharge" /battery low. Is there a fuse for multimedia buttons/idrive. Would there be a parasitic drain? what do you recon.

The radio on my BMW 7 cuts out with a buzzing noise only for about 10 seconds and then plays for 3 mins with this cycle recurring. Can you diagnose this problem for me.

I replaced the rear air bags on my e70 x5 and the rear end is still low with air in the bags but not enough to lift the rear to its normal driving height. Will I also need to replace rear shocks or compressor. Any clues will be much appreciated.

This is with the vehicle not driven or started? You may have what is called a parasitic draw. This is a component causing a drain on the battery. A draw test will need to be done by your repair shop to trace this down.

And this is my new battery look like , I use Equus 3721 Battery checker, first-day(12.4V), second-day(12.1V), third-day(11.8V). if am not drive go anywhere! i got the driver rear brake sensor off is not there not sure why bought the 2001 x5 like that ..afther pressure washing under rear and front abs and brake light came on remove all speed sensor and clean the clock to clock wont clear anithing help please thanx

Hi, I have a question, I have an bmw e46 320d 2003 estate m3 left hand europe car. I changed the speedometer from kmh (europe) to the UK mileage speedometer. After changing im starting the car and the braking pad warning lights stays on. I have driven for about 10 minutes still there. When I put back to old speedometer (km/h one) the braking pad warning lights stays on for about 1 minutes then it goes off, that means everything is ok. Can you please tell what is wrong. Is this the speedometer???

I have a 2005 BMW 645ci. I replaced my battery. I was told that I had to register my battery to the car. If I didn't it would drain my new battery down. I took it to the dealer and they charged me $200. Could I have turned my my steering wheel to the right and to the left with that have fixed my problem. Or did I need to hook up my scanner to the car to register battery.? Please help me.

Hi I have a 330xi 2006 and today while I was driving the car lost it's power then tried turning it back on and it was acting like if the battery was dead. I unplugged the cable from the negative side of the battery and it did turned on. Do you you what might be? It also says 4x4 failure bt it goes away

hello I live in Canada I have a bmw 325i 2006 today I started my car in the morning which was parked out side in -20c it wouldn't start cause of battery low voltage and then I connected the JumpStart and able to start the car in first attempt after starting I realize the clock was reset and the warning sign turn on which shows and traction control and then I realized while driving that if I put the turn signal which used to turn off automatically when the car was turned is not turning off so I have to do it manually do u think its the same issue a small help will be appreciated
