This has saved me. Was panicked when the parking brake failed out of sudden after I stopped my car upon reaching home and I couldn't drive the car anymore as it seems that the brake was already engaged though not showing light. After reset, it works again. Thank you so much!
My 5 year old got stuck with my wife near school, I got myself dispatched and fixed the problem with Your help, god bless you for your ingenuity and desire to help!! My steering wheel is on the other side though ;)
Worked perfectly on my 2013 X5. It's the fuse box located under the glove box but you'll need the map and fuse tool located in the rear fuse box. Thank you for saving me from the dealer!
Thank you for this sir! Last thing a man needed was to have this break during Christmas. Fuse in and out and issue has been resolved. Much appreciated.
JUST HAPPENED TO MY X5 ..LUCKILY FAILED AND DID NOT LOCK CAR ......PHEW ! SEEN THIS VID..WILL TRY TO CHECK FUSE...AND IF IT WORKS.....YOU ARE A GEM !!! WILL GET BACK WHEN TRIED...! THANKS FOR VID DUDE ....
Thank you, thank you a 100 times over as my BMW X5 was stocked in front of my garage for 2 weeks now. I couldn't even move it enough in order to bring my C8 for the weekend fun drive. After checking the fuse, problem solved. I truly appreciate this information. God blee you.
You just saved me! It was freezing and my E70 got the handbrake issue. I knee about the pull-wire-trick, but this trick of yours eorked perfectly. Last the same issue cost me about 700€!
Hi Everyone I have had this problem before and I thought it best if i respond on this site. And i feel this is the first thing to do is: Look at your history of recent drives. Have they been short? did you use the heated seat? Has other little messages come up like the tyre preasure sensor failure? Ride suspention warning? These are a clue to the problem is a not charged battery. The little fuse that Dawg mentions at the front does reset the problem but it kicked due to lack of power to set all the systems in the car. I used a portable booster and keep it in the car and this works great. If your battery is old perhaps replace it for BMW one if you can they are a bit dearer but not a lot and they will code it to the car. So worth it. I hope this helps out people. Nick
You beauty! I’ve just had parking brake actuator replaced, I wish I had found this beforehand… however it just happened again but this time the plunger didn’t work so I stumbled accross this! Boom! Great stuff thanks! (2013 X5)
OMG!!! thank you!!! This just happened to me ! I followed your instructions about the fuse , took me like 90min to go through it to find everything _ im a 54 year old woman, I mean Im not stupid with cars, but not a mechanic by any means. So, it kinda had freaked out on the way to the gym when I accidently moved the stick to M/S , didn't think it would be a problem when I got back out of the gym, but it was!!! It was completely stuck, I tried your manual release, nothing, - but after figuring out your video - I did it!!!! ( in and out on with the fuse) ok, so now Im home, the yellow light is still on though, does that matter? Do I need to get a new fuse? Also, should I use the parking brake?
Thank you I was stock in the parking with my husband, you save us from towing the car!!! Should we have that checked by the mechanic? Is it a common problem? Thank you! Cindy&Adrian from Costa Rica.
if fuse keeps blowing the internal electric motor has probably worn out it brushes down to copper holder/ springs, motor will run still (for a while) but draws high amps and blow fuse.... eventually the brush holders jam motor solid - so repeated fuse blow normally indicate a failing motor
Nice video I had problem with my 2008 750 li It was not reversing the parking break sign was on in dashboard . The fuses come loose or corroded it does fix the problem if the actuator is not broken. Even if that is broken just disconnect the cable from actuator now tie them together and take the cable / dog leash from trunk to front console and pull it to disengage or engage works fine don't need the actuator but it is better to fix it . The dog leash still stays available . Did like to make a bypass repair video but it takes about 1 hour.
Thanks, very helpful. Just wondering though....🤔 Could the actuator be on its last legs? this putting pressure / resistance on the electric pump causing the system to trip out??? Just would like to know how long it stayed sorted for????
My parking brake on the 2 series active tourer (F45 for usa) has a very similar problem. Parking brake seems to have failed. No error message. Pulilling the fuse triggers the error message. Putting it back did nothing. I replaced the fuse. Still nothing. No tension when pulling up, but when pushing down you can feel the tension. When vehicle is locked etc, the brake is engaged as I cannot push the car at all. Very strange.
bro i parked my x6 besides my home, got out to get my wallet, came back to my parking brake not working. i instantly called my local garage telling them about the problem. but i also thought why not try fix it. found this vid and you literally saved me a couple hundred bucks. Cheers my bro
Just drove my son to school and as I was driving a "parking brake Malfunction" light popped up. Luckily I tried to put the brake on and off when I got home and it didn't get stuck. But will try this to reset that issue. Thanks.
I have exactly same problem BMW X5 2010. called RAC he did exactly same thing release emergecy parking brake as shown in previous video. but exact same error message appearing I will try same procedure rather taking to BMW Dealer or electriction. However Need to find out exact fuse to pull out and put back in. do i need to turn on ignition while doing this procedure? Please advise?
My 2020 320i has the same problem. When I go over a bump parking light turns yellow, and shows “auto hold failed, parking break failed” on the screen. When I turn the engine off and on everything gets ok, and the warning dissappears. What could be the problem?
PARK light yellow is staying on. No the regular parking brake with the logo and pads. Just said PARK, Don't go away. All other lights when out abs, 4x4, dsc, . This event occurred while driving, locks the parking brake and my wife has to use the emergency release cable in order to move the car. Smoky brake odor was coming from the rear barkes. Thanks for your support. Easy peasy.
+Jose R Camacho Jose u can try the fix explained in the video if you like and see if that works it might do. The smokey brake smell could indicate a mechanical failure of maybe the brake actuator. Try the fuse first and see if that resets the parking brake. If not then u really need to get it checked out by a professional
Wow! This just may be the solution to my problem on my 08 X5 3.0. Did you pull the fuse out with the engine running or just ignition on? How ling did you wait till you inserted the fuse back on?
Hey the car was completely off. But im guess the parking brake actuator is still powered. So pulling the fuse out kills the power to it completely allow it to reset. took the fuse out for maybe 10 seconds
Hi I really need your help please! Could you tell me if this will work on a bmw z4 e89 (2011)? I had a failure with the parking break but only the yellow P comes out. I can still drive the car, its just the ebrake does not work anymore, so when I park I have to put it into gear for safety. I would really appreciate it if you could help!!! THANKS!
+Rub Vel Hi this is exactly what happened on my 2007 x5. You can try and locate the fuse for it and give it a shot. Although I would have expect by 2011 bmw would have sorted this issues out. Your call.
Didnt work for me.. my hand brake stuck while car was stationary ... then I was a video and found fuse 9 under glove box. It released the brake and I was able to move but yellow P stayed on. So I tried this but it has caused further issues saying 4x4 system failed and few other lights. Thanks anyways for help.
It works for our x5 as well! Thank you so much! At our x5 the parking brake was stuck, but after following this video no more. we still have the error that says: error in parking brake. roll away possible. How can we fix this error?
@@ОстапБендер-ю2п hi. I still have the parking brake error. Have to take it to the garage to fix it. Not sure what the issue or cost is. For the DSC I turned the engine on and turned the steering all the way to one side. Then the other. And it went away.
@@ravz1983 I have already had a repair done once. what was I do not know, said the electronics. the problem came back. I want to try to solve the problem on my own. I know that you can mechanically release the handbrake, there is a video on how to do it. I am in Vladivostok Russia.
I had the same problem today. I followed the steps youve shown in both of your videos. I tried to reset etc. but it didnt help what else can I do? Any suggestions? I can drive the car but it still shows the parking brake warning on the screen.
My parking break intermittently keeps releasing itself if trying to set off in gear , since been stuck in mud . Broke a brake hose and pipe replaced them , bled it . Can also feel foot brake pedal move when trying parking break . Any ideas ?
does this parking break issue occur regularly? if yes, i need to pull out the fuse (reset) everytime it happens? there must be something triggered the warning. my point is im just worried if there is actually something worst going on with the brake or electrical unit and it might cause more damage.
+Amirul Shah hey. It happened to me once only. After the reset everything has been fine. If the issue is persistent then u probably have a different issue triggering the failure
+Amirul Shah it could mean the parking brake actuator is faulty. So keeps failing. The reset helps get around a probable software glitch where the actuator freezes. This is my assumption
BMW EMF Parking brake is wise design, it can't save you in an Emergency if the foot-well brake failed to stop vehicle. Buying a vehicle with a Real hand held Emergency brake is better saving my ass than a fancy worthless EMF that dis-activate from applying while driving.
Dawg Will Fix IT Damn unlucky, try the process twice, the warning light would disappear, but when U apply the Parking Break again later the error returns. Definately actuator problem
Thats a shame!. Actuators are not cheap. What you can do is buy a refurbished one or get your one repaired. i have seen them on Ebay. There are also Chinese ones available. they are cheaper but im not sure about them
generally when these break its down to a small plastic cog breaking in the actuator . you can buy a replacement metal one online for 30 quid or so and easily fit it . a replacement actuator is nearly 1000 . so its definately worth cheking out
I have a 2011 BMW x5 and I get a parking brake malfunction one every so often, but did you know that the owners manual will show you how to reset the parking brake? Yes it's in every BMW owners manual
Thanks I have the park light on after the reset and won’t go away on my X5 2007.I going to try it with your theory. I heard a set noise after I turn that car off, like the parking brake is set. Please advise
+Jose R Camacho hey dude. The parking break will make a noise when activating and deactivating. What color is the light?, orange?, or red? Red means is ON. Orange means probably something wrong. When u turn on the parking brake the red will come on and when turn it off it should go off. So what exactly happening
I had this problem, BMW charged me a fortune £250 to recode the computer...... they won't admit it is a problem. Please register all these faults with them and your MP.......... they need to address this issue
