Bmw is adapting adnroid auto end of this year finally but this mmi box is still a killer. Thanks a lot for a great video and letting people know about their alternatives
Great video and install. Thinking about getting one of these myself and had a quick question. For Android auto (not mirrored) is the picture stretched (distorted)? It looked like some of the icons weren't round (when they normally would be). Thanks.
Hi, you made me watched the video again :) and you're right, it looks a bit stretched when you look from here on youtube, but i can confidently tell you that i haven't notice anything like that after checking it in car again just a minute ago. Looks like the angle of recording causes it 🤷♂️
Hi, sound quality is very good. Didn't have any problem. There's no aux cable on the box, the main harness delivers the sound. Therefore, no need to wire an aux cable. More info in the description.
Great video, thanks. I have just installed same unit in my bmw but both aftermarket cameras are not working... how did you wire the cameras to the carplay unit? Black:Ground & Yellow:12v reverse out?
Thanks for your comment, I'm glad it was helpful. As you can imagine it's been almost a year since I installed it so can't remember all the connections I made. However, I clearly remember that I wired camera power cables directly to the carplay box and followed the labels on the box output. Another thing is that make sure you choose aftermarket camera in your box settings menu. I had the same problem and forgot to switch it to aftermarket in the menu. This needs to be done when you update your carplay box as well. It can easily be forgotten. Good luck and keep us updated.
yes, I installed it myself by watching other RU-vid videos. Not sure why your mirroring doesn't work but mine works just fine every time I switch to it. It might be your phone settings, or bad connection or something else, so I'd try different steps until you get it working. Good luck
Hello.. I have recently bought a 320d 2014 model through a dealer . The previous owner has installed this system. I can't connect to the application and would really appreciate any help you can give me. I have a Huawei p20 and have connected to the USB in the car, but it doesn't connect to the I drive system. Kind regards
Hi, there are many different mmi boxes in the market, so I don't know which one you have. They all differ slightly in operation. I'd suggest you look for the brand first and try to find an update file on the Internet. Looks like you have a latest phone, so the box may need updating. Android auto can connect wired and wirelessly on mine, so you need to identify that too. Usb connection must ho on the mmi box not on bmw arm rest hub. You also download and try different android auto apps on your phone if possible. This is all i can suggest for now. Good luck and keep us updated👍
@@bmwsolutions7880 Thanks very much for your suggestions... I really appreciate it. I'll keep on trying and will let you know if I have success. Thanks 👍 😁
Hi I’m trying to install Andream' MMI Box on my bmw but How did u wire the Reverse camera, do u have to Tap in to the Original car reverse to get power!!?
hi there, I wired the camera power cable to the mmi box itself as it has a power output. Tried to tap it in on reverse light but there was flickering. You already need to wire camera signal cable to the box, so you can tape the extended power cable and wire them together through boot/backseat/under carpet/door sills. Same for front camera, I wired from behind number plate through engine compartment to the box. This way I got much better image quality and response when changing gear. Check out description as well for more info
Looks like there's a compatibility issue with id7 and box software. You can contact the box seller and ask for a software update if available. If not you can try to downgrade to id6.
@@bmwsolutions7880 if there is other way to update it but not via car system as it literally connects and discinnects after 3sec so it is impossible.downgrading to id6 could work .need to take a look
I didn't do anything, the box works that way in my car. Maybe you should play with settings. Check original idrive split screen as well, you might need to untick that. Can't think of anything else.
Android auto is completely wireless, no need for additional hardware. However, if you want to mirror your android phone screen, you need to connect it to usb input. Apple carplay and screen mirror are both wireless.
Wifi on your phone must be turned on as android auto works that way. Connection is automatic and whatever settings you left them on it saves them for next time. However, I have seen some people having problems with auto connect but doesn't take time to connect even manually. Sorry for a late reply,I sometimes miss comments.
Anyone can help me i have the same box but have some troubles i can see everything the android auto work but when i need to listen something or put some music it doesnt work i dont know what the hell thanks
I removed the idrive knob console and cup holder base to also install a wireless charger, so I thought it would be neat to run the phone cable under it which worked perfectly. Hope this answer your question.
