Happy subscriber here! Love seeing a new upload from Carfection 😁 Henry, please research and share a video with us on the unicorn from BMW, the E46 M3 GTR, the seldom heard of homologation car that raced in ALMS and 24Hrs of Nurburgring. The first real M3 to have a V8, and in my opinion why the E9X chassis came with a V8 of similar specs: 4.0L and naturally aspirated, but this race engine with it’s flat-plane crankshaft and straight-cut gears made a glorious noise! And it won every series it raced in, controversy because of its “prototype” engine, a truly legendary car that I feel deserves more recognition than it does now being mostly associated with video games 😅 please consider it, cheers!
Great video, very enjoyable! Just one correction on the Power button in the E92 GTS: it only changes the throttle mapping, no extra 100hp. It was the E60 M5 (and of course its twin M6) that had that 400hp to 500hp with the push of the Power button ;) Thanks for taking the time and effort to make the video @carfection
From my experience while this used to be true, this pretty much is just an old clichée by now. Honestly not trying to brag or anything stupid, but i virtually get positive reactions to mine every day when i have it parked outside at work. And sadly the rising prices in the last 4-5 years are telling the same story. I´m certainly gonna hold on to mine since i just love driving this thing. And you can still easily work on it yourself without having an IT degree!
I'm not sure if its because I was just becoming a car owner and enthusiast in my teens when the E36 was about and something I aspired to but I think its the best looking M3, I'm sure it holds its own dynamically too.
Actually, the rarest of the E90 generation cars was the CRT. 67 even made. All LHD. Same Stroker 4.4L and a very special interior, as you know, Mr. Catchpole. You drove that car at the Ring, if I am not mistaken.
You guys need to revise your history because the e 36 second gen m3 was totally lovedand super hyped being test compaird to thelikes of ferrari ( autocar) and quiet arguably seeled the future of the car for eternity! It’s over 100 hp a litre engine and all were raved about as the knees bees!
I was the first owner of that very E92 GTS. Nice to see it again on here (I did see the original video too). What a car. Had a CSL before that. Great memories.
11:38 always have to throw in some digs when discussing an e36. It’s not the downforce that can damage the trunk latch, it’s repeated slamming of the truck. It can happen on any e36, but the extra weight with the larger wing exacerbates the issue. A simple one minute install of a reinforcement plate solves this.
@@Euphorica Well, lazy is a bit too harsh i would say. Easy to know the quirks of a car if you own it, he probably also doesn´t know how far along the reinforcement-plates for the back strut bearings from the Z3 go on the E36. But how often might he have come in contact with those topics in his takes on the car? Probably never i would think. And saying "i like it a lot more than i thought i would" is hardly hating on it. I for one really enjoyed this "family meeting" 😅
Still not just the best M3 for me, but probably the greatest M Car ever....it really is that good. I love the E28 & E39 M5's, they're brilliant cars. But the E30 tops even those two
i've subscribed a lot of car youtube reviewers you're the most entertaining most detailed presenter and your voice is perfect for car reviews in my opinion.
I’ve had three E36 M3’s, including my race car, an E46 and my current E92 Dinan car, and I love them all. I just never warmed to the turbo cars, as the sound, throttle response and linear power made me keep my S65 V-8 engined manual car since I bought it new in 2008. And the brand new M4? That’s a hard no
The G82 M4 with it's kidney grills make it look like a pig. Honestly I'll take an E92 or an F82 over a G82 since BMW is slowly phasing out the manual. My personal fave is the E39 M5.
@@RJLightning68 Yes I would. I owned an E90 ZCP Manual which is realistically the successor to the E39. Probably same size and weight. Those cars might be heavy but they still have the soul!
I really wish you guys would've taken a legible photo of that ECU sticker describing the changes available on that E30 instead of the artsy shot chosen. Some of us are nerds and speak engineering lingo and want to know. Looks like it has 8 separate fuel and spark maps you can choose from.
The E30 will always be king. Once a car is in motion it’s hp and trq are almost meaningless assuming they’re geared correctly. What really matters for performance driving and even spirited road driving is grip, balance, and braking; all of which depend on lightness. People always say they want a race car for the road, but what they really would enjoy is a go kart for the road. On the really narrow mountain roads I drive daily, most cars would be off the side of a cliff if they tried to keep up with any E30.
I dont like watching these types of car videos sometimes, videos about cars I grew up dreaming about and still desire. Knowing I may never drive some of these, and everyday they're becoming more and more rare...

Coming from an M3 owner I absolutely love this piece of iconic M3 history! The racing heritage is what made me fall in love with M3's since my younger days of dreaming of a Daytona Violet E36 coupe.
One of my favorite series compilation without a doubt. Happy to see it back up 👍 you guys covered 5 generations in around 30 minutes, meanwhile I spent that same amount of time on just my F80 M3 CS review - I suppose as a long term review it’s justified though 😄 well done and good luck on hitting that 1 million sub count 🎉
I had a German Spec e36 M3 in South Africa in the late 90`s...it`s still the one car that I totally regret selling...I had an e46 M3 some years later and somehow I still preferred my e36, that car was so easy to live with, it was great around town and just amazing on long highway drives...I found the e46 in manual just a little too heavy and the clutch was a nightmare in the notorious Johannesburg highway traffic jams...
Interesting how these lazy folks hate on it ....and then you see countless owners(and previous owners) talk about how amazing it truly was. Im more inclined to believe real life owners(who have typically owned other gens....e46 , e92 for example) compared to some these lazy journalists who just repeat these talking points with no originality.
@@Euphorica Yeah, I get you... I remember when my ex drove the e46 for the first time, she`d driven the e36 too when I had it and in typical female fashion she compared the experience to shoes...she said driving the e36 was like wearing Nike running shoes compared to the e46 being like wearing a pair of combat boots... Don`t get me wrong, the e46 was a great car to own but just somehow I found the e36 a better overall package to live with as a daily driver...the e92 I never had the pleasure of owning but did get to drive one that a friend owned for a few hours, that was a totally different experience...
bloody hell Henry, what a terrible job you have making you drive all those old cars in the wet. But you rose to the occasion and produced a very good video. The sign of a true professional.
My e30 m3 is not the quickest but it's the best feeling car compared to my fd rx7, 993S and boxster. Most confidence inspiring and most forgiving. Haven't found another car that has that connected to the road feel.
There is a kid in LA who has a e36 gt and it looks showroom ready! The green paint looked like a mirror. He just got it a few months ago and wouldn’t disclose how much he paid which I get it lol 😂 we got a manual in the e46 m3 in the states, did they not come manual in the UK?
@@michaelsummerell8618 yeah the theory is that you'll never need to downshift to 1st on a race track. Even a tight hairpin can be taken in 2nd. So all the shifting stays in the H side of the shifter pattern. The less gates left or right you have to use, the less likely to miss a shift. So they spend their whole lap in 2nd through 5th.
I never drove an E30 M3 but I owned a 190E 2.5-16 for a year, and it was an amazing car. I've always wondered how the two compared to each other. Maybe Carfection could arrange a matchup?
E30 biggest weakness - that 4 cylinder engine. Imagine if it had the 2.5l i6 one tuned to 220-240 bhp. Overall the best chassis was the E36. And most reliable M3 ever made was the US spec one. Why? Check the Hagerty channel for the explanation.
An E46 CSL with a manual conversion is getting popular, and that's what i'd have if i could afford any of these. A real dream car for me. If i had to list the rest of them in order of appeal to me, it would be: 2. E9x 3. E30, 4. E36, and all of the turbo six M3s would be in a shared 13th place.
