You hit the nail on the head - it's gotta be a drive without any purpose other than the drive itself. For me it doesn't have to be 10/10ths, I actually prefer it to be relaxed. I used to get hung up on finding the best curvy roads, but found that ended up just making it stressful if those roads were crowded that particular day or if I didn't have enough time to get out to them. So, I started just taking the "long way" home from work or whatever errand I needed to run and found I was able to enjoy even the lame roads, all because I was allowing myself some time just to enjoy a drive.

I usually get my “therapy drives” in Sunday mornings before Cars and Coffee. Seattle Cars and Coffee’s on Lake Washington, so I’ll either go south to Seward Park and go up Lake Washington Blvd, or go north to the Montlake Cut and go down Lake Washington Blvd. Always a pretty drive, but really gotta respect the cyclists, especially on Sunday mornings.

It's good to have places to drive that you don't have to worry about too many distractions and obstacles. Coastal roads are great. I went with a friend a few years back and we drove around the higher end beach communities, small narrow roads, no run off and tight twisty corners. Fun in a small BMW, stressful if I'd drive in my truck lol

As a regional truck driver, it can be mundane at times to drive long periods of time. I also have a E39 M5 that I look so forward to drive on my rare off time. While there are fun roads close to home. To regain the love for driving, just running a quick errand in this car always feels special. Great content.

I completely feel you on the gas front - I used to love taking night drives in summer when the temperature is finally low enough to shut off my AC and roll down the windows for a while. But when those gas prices started going above $4/gal, I stopped leaving my house to do *anything* except commute to/from work and buying groceries once a week. Now that they're finally going down, I feel more comfortable with the idea again. In terms of location, it takes me a solid 15 minutes to get to 495 in any direction, but sometimes cruising through random backroads and getting lost can be equally as fun as thundering up and down the nearest highway. My dad told me that's how he learned so many of the roads in Quincy and Boston when he was my age - just get lost on purpose, then start using landmarks and memorizing street names to find your way home. Thanks to his advice, it's like there's a little map of Massachusetts inside my head now!

@@Briguy288 Sorry chief, I'm talking about 495 in Massachusetts. I have driven through NYC a handful of times, and while I can confidently say that New Yorkers are among the worst drivers in the world (next to Floridians), you guys have some pretty sweet highways, bridges, and tunnels!
@RothBeyondTheGrave
@RothBeyondTheGrave 2 года назад
@@Lordgeorge16 I'm from Jersey (South Jersey outside of Philly), but I can still confirm your statement. Once New Yorkers started releasing you can get a lot of the same vibes, etc in Philly for about 90% less money & 90% less congestion & stress there's now more of them here & they're equally as horrific on the road as the left lane hogging moms are. Florida, who knows hahaha...actually scary driving down there.

To the local Starbucks, and then home. Is it far? No, but it is therapeutic. You don't have to go far to enjoy the ride, even if you don't drive, be a passenger, let someone else drive you place. Just enjoy the ride, and be safe out there.

After moving to the north shore I started exploring the area and discovered the empty, wooded, winding farm roads tucked away just a few streets over from me. They are in amazing condition for Massachusetts road and allow you to spiritedly stay in 3rd gear and dance between induction noise and exhaust.

As an eastern european I would love to have 5 dollars / gallon fuel prices here! Thats about 1.30 euros per litre, compared to the 1.80+ price what we have. Not to mention the monthly wage to fuel cost ratio compared to 'murica as well. Still, doesn't stop me from spending around 40 euros per week just to fuel my cruising car :) Can confirm, money better spent compared to visiting a therapist for the same money for a couple of sessions.

As you said in the video, for me, the good roads are really close to my location as I live at the margin of the city so in my therapy drives, a good little drive on the field roads or the empty parts of the city with my Mercedes w123 240D is the best ever, and I say little because the gas prices are way to high, for a country in which the medium salary is 520 dollars a month, this is mostly the reason.

Bro, I love these evening drives. I drive my Mercedes from school to home at 7:30PM on certain days. I take the back roads and get to enjoy sending it through the corners. I only get the opportunity to do those evening drives 2 times a week and it’s so worth it. On the other days I take the bus and it makes me more excited to drive my AMG on those special nights. To answer your question about where I go for my drives, sometimes I cruise on the highway and sometimes I take a run through the hills to get home.

I love driving most on cool (60s F) early mornings (6-7 am) because you have good lighting but also way less traffic. I don't feel comfortable pushing super hard at night because my area (fairly rural NC) has an ungodly high deer population and my old halogen bulbs suck. I absolutely love visiting family I have up in the mountains, best roads.

My therapy drives pretty much reflect yours. Golden hour is important. I love that sense of peace. Which is also why I drive out to the middle of nowhere. You know you're in the right place when you've got cornfields on either side, and the occasional farmhouse with a rusted out '96 F150 deep in the weeds out back! Unless I'm filming for my channel (for a series that you inspired) I've got my windows down, and a specially tailored driving playlist going. I used to think I was weird when I'd just go "drive nowhere" as a teenager, but now realize that it's genuinely therapeutic for me.

I do usually take it on a nice long drive every other week or so except for winter when it’s parked. I love the e39 M5 it’s so comfortable and engaging to drive and garners so much positive attention. Even the smell of the interior is just so inviting to me and instantly puts me in a better mood. I live in central Pennsylvania and have so many nice back roads to explore on.

Ya know I remember back in the late 90s if you had any sedan with 200hp, you were sitting near the top of the food chain, if you had one with 250hp it was an even bigger deal and to this day it just astonishes me how BMW just kinda showed up with the e39 M5 with 400HP and Iove how serious they can be about their sport sedan pedigree. I mean it was truly the king of the hill, and I still marvel at how beautiful they were. This car was BMW at its best! Loved the dark green e39s with the chrome m sport wheels. Met a guy with a 2001 540i and complimented him on his car, his response was "well my last car was a porsche, then I got the BMW and its a great compromise" The 90s were great!

I miss my E39 M5, torque for days, amazing for a non turbo. Plus instant response that turbos don't have. I always enjoy therapy drives. They were especially important when the pandemic hit. I'm fortunate to be an hour or so from the Blue Ridge Parkway but a 200 mile round trip was a $50+ drive this summer. At least I have some curvy country roads near home. For me therapy "drive" means getting my bike and doing laps around my neighbourhood, since I'n not of legal age to drive yet (2.5 years to go! :D). I just love going fast on the downhills while listening my favourite songs on repeat. After I few laps, I stop, get a fizzy drink and relax watching the downtown from my favourite spot. My last car was a Euro spec e30 325 Touring and previous to that a VW Jetta 16V. I used to go on morning runs about an hour on side roads to a beach village and watch the sunrise. Very little traffic that time of day. Going around the bends at mph not the kph safe limits...then I got a ticket. Not much of a fine but a reminder that when caught it will cost you. I took the Touring to the Vintage at the Vineyards BMWCCA weekend near Ashville one year, a 12 hour drive from Canada where I live. Not a great highway cruiser but give it a two lane curvy road and all is right with the world. If it was not raining with zero visibility, the Blue Ridge Parkway home would have been amazing. Not exciting in a take your life in your hands way. The e39 M5 was a dream car twenty years ago, still is. But I fear my licence would not last long with one of those. The e36 M3 sedan was more of a Goldilocks car. Right size, right power and fun to drive at less than autobahn speeds.

I live not so far away from the mountains so for me the "therapy drive" is to take the car on some twisty backroads through villages at night time when they're almost dead empty. The so-called "therapy drives" are a bad addiction of mine. They're so enjoyable that despite resisting it for weeks, I go for a few hours spin once or twice every month, except for winter time. With cheapest fuel, the 95, being at $5.50/gallon I can't just stomach it and despite the ride being nice, fun and enjoyable I have an instant regret that remains for many days to follow. And then weeks later I do it again. And so the cycle continues. No way I'm ever gonna break out of that habit so I'm just rushing to finish the degree and get a well-paid job in that field that's gonna work kinda like a digestive pill whenever I have to pay for the full gas tank. 😅

So many incredible beach spots, vistas, etc to stop at along the way as well. My answer to your question may not be what you will think, but, to me EVERY drive (that is not "in a hurry because I'm late for xyz") is a therapy drive for me. The nice extra is, my girlfriend is a therapy driver too, more than myself actually, so often we can share the joy. :) Cheers!

Man, what a cool video. Beyond the car, I love your message. I could not agree more, those 30 min ride just cruising, enjoying your car and the landscape, are the best. Thank you, best channel!

Best video yet! Inspired me to go leisurely run through the gears with the windows down and the sunroof open in my RS4 on a cool-ish Oklahoma evening. (Of course I had to burn off all of the carbon on the way home lol) Cheers!

I really enjoy watching your videos and love your vibe as well. I don’t say that about a lot of people so I really mean it when I say it. Keep it up!

This really speaks to me as to why I recently bought a 2003 MR2 Spyder. Once I get a misfire issue figured out and delete the pre-cats, will be driving it constantly. Not special enough care about putting miles on, cheap to maintain and fun.

Hey Tedward. I’m definitely having fun in my manual v6 accord even though it isn’t the fastest car. It’s definitely good to go out on country roads with it when the light is out. Night time can be a lil dangerous because of deer but regardless, definitely agree with the therapy drives and love the M5

I usually go on therapy drives in evenings where I just want to get out and enjoy my car and rid my mind of daily and ongoing stresses. It isnt much but I love driving my 2008 Audi A4 6MT through the canyons in northern salt lake city.

Love all your video’s, they definitely make me miss my bimmer when you post your pov bmw drives,so good keep up the excellent content ,I miss my drives , there aren’t many great close roads around lincoln where I live , but driving therapy is definitely the best especially when you can focus on just the sounds of the car and the surrounding area. Great content sir

Living in NY my therapy drives are in the bear mountain area, early morning. It's so nice being the only one on the roads with the sun coming up overlooking the river. Hoping to be back there with my E39 M5 soon, I've got some work planned, got some stiffer thrust arm and subframe bushing and the car feels unbelievable with new suspension all around, just need a few more things before I can really push it

@@TedwardDrives the car blew the engine on a road trip in Canada. Or so I thought. A specialist garage in Victoria replaced some bits and they were able to get it running. So no rebuild necessary. Just waiting for them to do it as a side project.

@@TedwardDrives the oil pump fell off which is actually a known issue in early cars you may have heard about. Improperly torqued oil pumps on early production cars. Lucky for me I shut the engine off right away and as far as they can tell so far the car is ok.

There's always a go to small Mountain nearby for me, about a 15 minute drive away. When you get to the top it's a nice spot for a picnic. Or there is a nice 45 minute loop on local country roads that's always chill

When I go for a therapy drive, I like to drive away from all the people and just be on roads by myself and when no one is arround and it's just me and my car I can then start to truely enjoy driving again.

For me therapy drives are easiest in the city. And I go out at late night, past 11pm when most of downtown and the dock area is empty. I take a camera with me as well, and usually stop at a late night canteen like shop for a cup of tea and a cigarette. I usually cover between 20 and 30kms, and drive pretty slow.

Luckily I live on the edge of a suburban town. Five minutes away I have a mix of long straightaways and some curvy roads. And I think I’m the luckiest because it’s my fastest way to work. Even if I’m not driving enthusiastically

therapy drive is awesome where i live (Warsaw). 3.5 km (2mi) from express route and highway, or if I go for city nightdrive it's even less to reach main avenues (2-3 lanes one way, great visibility with lamps) Depending on the mood it takes 40min on the quick one, up to 2h if i REALLY NEED IT. High five, keep up the good work.

I love my area because I can cruise the coast, drive up the river, or head through farmlands. My personal preference is fairly slow cruises on frigid but sunny days. Grab a cup of coffee at my favorite shop, put the windows slightly down with the sunroof fully open, and vibe to some tunes. Use to be something I did more cause my old car, a 2003 mazda protege5, was decent for fuel economy. But now I've got a worse job and drive a gas guzzling 2005 gmc yukon denali, so I don't really cruise much...
