Nice maintenance Frank. Luckily the water pump came out easily. On cars that make not a lot of mileage a year, it can be a big pain in the backside. Mine was in the M50 e36 for 6 years and I had to use the two m6 bolds to drive the pump out. It was so stuck. One of the m6 bolds snapped doing this! Dutch regards, Nico.

Nice timing! I was planning on replacing only the thermostat on my E53 3.0i because the engine is running slightly cold on the highway. I guess I will do the rest as well

does the water pump have internal o rings? I have a leak coming from the bottom of water pump but i doubt its the gasket between the pump and block.

Do you run the car without the cap on to get air out?

Is the M54 enough engine for the E53? I have a manual E83 and you can really feel the extra weight versus the E46

Actually it is. It’s 4.10 geared 3.0 version so it revs high on the highway, it has some getup!! More than my 2.5L m54 325xi, even despite the additional weight of the e53, believe it or not
