Nathan I respect all the work you do you are a really motivating person I purchased a Bmw 328i 2009 with 155k miles but it looks flawless body and interior Alpine White had to do some minor changes Radiator,fuel pump,valve cover gasket,starter,spark plugs oil filter housing gasket, new battery I purchased the car in 2018 did all the changes through the first year that I owned it.I admire the work you do because you do it yourself my story is that i know a good mechanic that doesn't over charge me but your work motivates me to do it myself keep up the good work my 328i runs like a dream I only payed 5,200 they wanted about 6,000 but i talked them down. The car runs great and looks amazing although now I wanna a M3 now your channel really is motivating

You said it yourself, its a 10k job. Get rid of the Chinese o-ring kit and get yourself the OEM gaskets and seals. Nothing worse than doing it over again, I didn't listen till I learned my lesson. Great vids!

Great vid bro! I sure wish I had kept my 08 interlagos blue M5 while you are here making these videos. It would have helped so much lol. Its almost inspiring me to get another one.

This was giving me flashbacks of when I did my cousins e90 valve body solo on my back with about a foot of space. My arms were so tired I just kept lifting it and putting it down etc...

Just a tip I use two zip ties in the oil pan to hold the gasket in opposite corners, zipped most bolts and cut off zip ties from there.. it helps a lot.

Monday morning quarterbacking is easy but as I watched the oil pan re-install I thought if you just used 3 maybe 4, 10 mill longer bolts, cut the heads off and then used them as guide studs in the existing oil pan bolt holes it would have held your gasket in place while aligning the pan.....great video though. Doing something like this pan I would cut the bolts to different heights so I was not trying to align them all at once.

You have a lift, why not use a lift jack (or 2) to hold it in place, slowly screwing the jacks higher as you align the installation?

Great informational video Nathan !! It sure does seem a lot more complicated working on e60 m5 as opposed to e60 530i like I have. Kudos to you, that v-10 is crammed in there . I bet she’s a beast when your all done .

I honestly would change the alternator now that is very accessible. With the subframe on is a PITA to do the job.

That thing you called a ‘stepper pump’ is actually the vanos pressure accumulator. It retains 80 bar pressure for starting vanos operation. Should not be weeping oil!

I guess my vanos pump was different. Mine didn’t use a shim. I had to loosen the vanos pump and tap it towards the crank or away from the crank with the bolts slightly loose to get the correct backlash.
