You can mix Dot 3, Dot 4 and Dot 5.1 with each other. Those are all glycol-based fluids which just has different dry and wet boiling points. But then there is this Dot 5 fluid which is silicon-based and you cannot mix it with any mentioned above. However, a great video💪
Yes you should according to the manual. I haven't made an allowance for the ABS module as I don't have the BMW software/cable. The manual does say to run the ABS module through a bleeding routine after bleeding the brakes. This would cycle the old fluid out of the ABS module. My observation is if the rest of the system has fresh fluid, the little bit of old fluid in the booster shouldn't be an issue and should mix with new fluid through the course of operating the vehicle (especially if you have slippery roads!). You can think of an ABS module as a set of valves to allow brake pressure from the pedal to be applied to the calipers or bypassed to release pressure from the caliper, it doesn't actually hold much fluid and during normal operation fluid does still go through it. Just make sure you are not mixing brake fluid types! One note is that on some vehicles the ABS module is located in a different location. In this case, the the caliper bleeding order may change (start with the caliper furthest away and work to the closest to the ABS module).
As I understand it, there will be some old fluid in the ABS pump/module. I never worried about it as my pump gets a good workout every winter meaning that little bit of old fluid would get mixed in with the new fluid. Not sure what that means if you are in a warm climate with no icy roads! When I made the video I had blead lots of brakes, but this was the first time with a ABS component and I never though of it. It is something I should of addressed in the video. Thanks for bringing it up!

It is an Android phone. I am using a Carly Bluetooth adapter with the Carly app. Carly was a lifetime license when I bought it, but it is now a subscription, so you may want to look at some of the other offerings out there.
Before bleeding I suck out as much as I can from the reservoir and fill it with new fluid, then start bleeding the brakes. This way, I will get fresh fluid to the calipers sooner. Otherwise you would have to bleed the whole reservoir through to the first brake which would take a long time.
Hey so I missed my brake fluid service by about a week and now there's an ABS malfunction and the stability and DBC lights are on. Should bleeding and replacing the brake fluid bring these systems back online?
did you do your service? weird things happen when the battery gets low or is disconnected (which can happen during a service). as long as the car is driving fine and there are no obvious issues I would reset the codes and see if the come back. missing the brake fluid service by a week isn't an issue. brake fluid goes bad slowly as it absorbs moisture, so it isn't a sudden failure. changing the brake fluid alone won't make the codes go away, you will still need to reset the codes. typically when I do my brake fluid, I wait for the service light, then wait for the next time I'm changing my summer/winter tires, so I'm usually a few months over when I change it. if you are going to be doing aggressive driving or going to the track, you'll want to go the other way and change it early.
@@reileymckerracher9181 @Reiley McKerracher I haven't done the service yet I was going to call and schedule it for tomorrow or do it myself with the help of your video. The car drives and the brakes work but they don't stop as quickly or smoothly as of last night when the light came on so the ABS malfunction might actually not be related to the battery.
@@elitecompany51 Sorry, I'm not sure then, best have the shop look at it when they do the fluid. It could be a couple different things if the brakes aren't acting as quickly, the booster or master cylinder being possibilities.
What I'm looking that most likely need is Replacing the Brake pad wear sensor and from there with advanced diagnostic computer Reset the service and there is a way to with car computer manually but u Need to use BC button and the button the dash the ones that is used to reset the miles driven. It's a procedure
