My 2011 328i cabrio needs this replacement part, but I went cheap to get a high quality 3rd party one from SCITOO for 50$. It got good reviews, but I heard to get the VDO brand only. The sensor also comes with a green O ring around the big round part as the old didn't have one.
My car was stalling then it was a crank no start I changed everything in between. The car had no codes but I realized if I pulled the ESS censor the car would run but not the greatest. Then one day all the sudden the car doesn't want to start with the ESS plugged in or out and I want to get involved chronic codes when the ESS has been unplugged I changed ESS three times with Continental OEM non bootleg ! Change fuel pump relays everything in between crank sensor I have no codes for nothing before or after. The car cranks no start no codes except for ESS when it's unplugged in the car still doesn't start any ideas? DME??
Figure out if it’s fuel related, spray some starter fluid past the mass air flows sensor into the intake and see what happens. A little spray goes a long way so don’t fluid the intake. If the vehicle starts then you know you got a fuel issue. If it doesn’t start with with the starter fluid then you got a spark or compression issue. You need fuel, compression and spark other air to get it started. This the route I take before deciding if I need to look at the Dme. Also it’s bmw so discount the battery for a few hours if all else fails before throw money at repairs. Keep me posted.

Your video hours the mark for what I am experiencing. Using Carly app errors 2A31-36, related to valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor . These return quickly even after clearing. Couple immediately, others after a few miles of driving. I had the sensor cleaned by a mechanic but did not since the issue. Likely the oil has penetrated deeper into the sensor unit being the terminals. My vehicle 2011 e90 70-80k miles. Have this issue for 10k miles and over two years. But the vehicle drives just fine! No engine light errors either. And I am a low mileage driver. If there only negative is poor mileage then I would not want to be worried about getting this changed by a mechanic! Expensive, considering I have already replaced my valve cover gasket by the independent shop, and there is no other reason to open the engine as far as I know. I can live with poor mileage of ~17 city, 25 highway or so. But if this is a risk to the engine and bigger costs down the line then I would take it to a shop. Not a DIY person myself, but can understand the troubleshooting. Any advice please? 🙏

i just have same problem came to me to day , 2008 BMW 328xi Sedan AWD (E90) L6-3.0L (N51) codes 2A37 and 2A47 hard code never clear check engine light turn on after 1 drive cycle but the customer changed the sensor and valvetronic motor at other shop but did not fix the problem i did not check the car yet just relearn valvetronic motor but did not help ..do you have idea which direction i have to go for check .. thank you
Wael Ahmed, If the customer changed the eccentric shaft sensor at another shop, I hope the shop installed a quality replacement eccentric shaft sensor. Other the than a quality replacement, just make sure the plug/connector that plugs into the eccentric shaft sensor is clean and oil free( clean with electrical cleaner). The codes I was getting were 2A32 and 2A47. I would also inspect and clean all wiring harness on both vamos, you will be surprised what a dirty connector can cause. The Vamos are only held in by ONE 10mm bolt you might as well remove/clean/and inspection both as well(the Vamos are also interchangeable so you want to switch them around at the same time and see if anything changes). I replaced the valve cover gasket, eccentric shaft sensor seal, eccentric shaft actuator valvetronic motor seal, and spark plugs of my 2009 BMW X3. When I started the car, the engine run very weak and shaky, and stopped running within 1 minute. After that the engine can crank, but not start. The Ancel BM700 scan tool shows fault codes 2A31 (valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor: guide), 2A32 (valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor: reference), 2A47 (valvetronic eccentric shaft sensor: plausibility). There is no oil in eccentric shaft sensor. Do you think eccentric shaft sensor was damaged during the replacement of valve cover gasket? Thanks.
Great question, I would be just be guessing if I answer the questions on how the sensor got damaged, why didn't you replace the sensor at the same time?
Hi! Could the eccentric shaft sensor be the cause of 2A6F - Valvetronic, minimum lift exceeded error code? Getting rough idle (500900rpm) when the engine is warm and my fuel economy is bad also. Maybe the Valvetronic motor needs to be replaced?
@@RANDOMFIX Not yet. Still getting a hesitation after the car has been left for 30mins or so. After I start the car, the RPMs slowly reaches 650 where should be while A/C is off, then all of a sudden it crashes to like 400-450, sometimes stalling, sometimes recovering, then RPMs are stable afterwards, it's just only that initial hesitation after warm car was left for half an hour. Maybe Vacuum leak or MAP/MAF?
Im about to do valve stem seals on my Bmw 745i. i was thinking the intermediate levers are causing the cold start issues (165k miles) but now im thinking this as well. Will this sensor(S) throw a specific code in INPA or ISDA-D??

I think your right, it was time, the sensor is pretty well tucked in there for the carwash to do actual damage. I've had lots of cars towed in to our old shop from carwashes, strange but true.

What code would this throw if this is bad on a 07 328i e52? I'm about to replace the valve cover and the valve cover gasket and plugs but am strapped for cash and don't want to fork over another $100+ for one if mine is still ok. I only have 85k

@@RANDOMFIX Yeah I am not getting any of those codes so I am going to cross my fingers and not replace the sensor. I'll visually inspect it to see if its junked up I might take it out clean it and seal it up for preventive maintenance maybe with some high temp glue or just leave it alone until it goes out. That's a spendy part to be buying if it's not broken yet. At least when it does go out taking off the valve cover should be a piece of cake.

I have received my eccentric shaft sensor from VDO, the car is not acting strange, no check engine light but I got 002A32, 002A47 and 002A34 codes when scanning with Carly and the description indicates Eccentric shaft sensor problem. My question is, does the metal plate on the sensor makes contact with a part of the car or can I try the part just by plugging it to the connector. Want to know if I can try the sensor before disarming the hole shaft cover. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE, hope my question was clear.

I respectfully and personally disagree, certain oem parts are much better aftermarket parts, especially with o2 sensors, etc, mass air flow sensor, etc.. _Randomfix
That's funny after markets are made to do the same thing I done alot of after market parts no issues people are just so high strung. OEM parts which is stupid...hell in bmw oem parts actually go out quick but just are pricy....
goldenglove25 I agree with you, I’ve used China parts and seen so many people say this and that but if your car has only a certain problem, that small China part will get it going😂
