I also had such a sensor error. It was not the sensor that was to blame, but the oil in the ankle. The oil was seeping from the sensor, flowing through the insulation and flowing out in the rubber casing at the plug. As the plug has holes, the oil seeped inside and caused the sensor to malfunction. The car fired differently, sometimes it had no power. After removing the sensor, cleaning the ankle and sealing, the problem has not returned for 3 months. Disassembly : Airbox out (more Space). You don't need to detach the pneumothorax tubes. (They are brittle and breakable) The filter housing cover is also not necessary for disassembly. Everything depends on the tools you use. For the video, the tools are too serious :) All you need is a broken Allen key. The vanos adjuster is also removable. Unfasten the ankle and just unscrew it. It's all. You can work for 30 minutes with the right tools.

I have a similar problem just starting to show up on my X5 E83d, is it plausible for this to happen on the 3.0ltr diesel engines as well? What year/model BMW? Surprised you were able to get the cable unplugged at the intake manifold area. All the videos I've seen, they had to remove the airbox etc. to remove it. My 328CI doesn't stall, but the rpm's will dip to almost 0, a minute or so after I start the car, and go back to normal after a couple minutes. I originally had an 02 sensor code, so I replaced the 2 pre-cat sensors, and everything was fine. I scanned the car again and got the P0340 code. Thinking it was a coincidence, I cleared the code and it didn't come back after a re-scan, but rpm issue is back and the acceleration is not so great especially on the freeway. It can get to 100 but it's a slow climb to get there. Wondering if I should still change the ICP sensor.

After driving a few hours I have an 04 325 it will stall, mainly idling at red lights, but will start back i. 3 or 4 starts, but will happen again, park it 15 min, you're good for another few hours, but only on a warm/ hot day 80 plus, if it's cold outside, never happens. Maybe MAF, maybe fuel injectors, one was leaky, I replaced one, seems an appropriate time for a new set of 6

Is this the Eccentric Shaft Sensor? We have a 2007 X3 that throws codes every so often. I think they're P0015 and P0012. I've read it can be caused by a faulty eccentric shaft sensor. The car runs like crap until codes are cleared, and will then run for upwards of a week before throwing them again.

@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 7 лет назад
If your cam sensors are original (intake and exhaust) and your miles are getting up there, I'd definitely recommend changing them out at some point as part of maintenance. As for your revs dipping, make sure you don't have any air intake leaks causing that and the tune up is up to date. There are many variables at play that can cause similar symptoms so diagnose slowly and carefully before buying a ton of parts!

Thanks for a great video. Could I ask about my car. It got all kinds of variations of start stop problems. (3 shops thought it was the red long battery cable that runs under the car, it was loose in the back) But it wasn't it as they fastened it. It sometimes starts with no problem, then it stops suddenly while driving, it sometimes don't start at all with no ignition sound, and sometimes it tries to 'give' with ignition sound but never 'grabs'. Starts fine without problems Doesn't start, without ignition sound Doesn't start, with ignition sound What could this be?! Thank you for any insight.

@@victoriarose7528 Hey Victoria. It was the battery cable under the car, specifically at the BACK, under the battery. There's a fastening skrew below the car under the back-trunk, a red cable that ends. It's this ending point that is loose and rusted. (Because the cable plastic is exposed at the end) So there's corrosion buildup there. I cut it off at the end (a little piece) sanded the contact point around the bolt. Got a new cable shoe(at a boat shop) And fastened it with pliers. Also using crimping wire cover to melt it over the new cut wire. To paint a visual picture for you: There's a red cable stretched across the car, from the front hood, to the back trunk. A very long red battery cable. It's this cable that is having poor contact at the back of the car under the battery. You need to make that contact point(and cut off a little piece of the corroded cable) where it is corroded. And give it a new metal cable shoe. The Cable has leeway to pull more cable to the given area, so you don't need a NEW cable as the car shop would have it. This problem is THE NUMBER #1 problem on these cars. They even have a list of top issues on the Tool they use at the shop. Where every make and model has a list of known issues. This is literally nr 1 issue at the very top. Here's what the cable looks like and that metal shoe. (You don't HAVE to solder if you clamp the metal shoe tighly on the cable). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CccZY6vnpo4.html&ab_channel=FIRSTCLASSAMATEUR

My 2004 bmw 525i just stalled out on me today suddenly while slowing down going over a speed bump.. All lights work except it wasn’t wanting to start at all. Just kept cranking. I replaced my camshaft position sensor a month ago. Had spark plugs replaced and new gaskets switched out. Ever since I got that done. My car at times doesn’t start up on first try. But on the second it does right away. This isn’t all of the time but quite often. What could the be the reason for it stalling how it did and doesn’t want to start? I checked the battery n it had a little corrosion on the negative terminal. Maybe from trying to start it those few times before I called AAA..??

Hey , my car randomly stalls as well , at coming to a stop mostly , and in case of cruising on a highway, it hesitates , as if I'm stepping on the gas and taking my foot off of the pedal constantly until it randomly goes back to normal . When it stalls suddenly, I can turn it back on , but it keeps turning off until I hit the highway to get back to normal . The scanner says " camshaft exhaust sensor " , does it really mean the sensor itself or the camshaft exhaust inside the engine ?

Pressing the brake puts more strain on the battery/ engine because it puts a strain on the brake booster. You may notice that lights dim when you turn the steering wheel or press the brake for this reason.

Holy crap. I've had this EXACT issue in my 2003 e53 (177k mi) for about 3 years now. About every 3 months, no more than 4-5 times a year, it will stall at super low speed when slowing down at a light or making a u-turn. I turn it off, turn the key, and it cranks right up and we are back to normal. For another 3 months. I had NO idea what it was. First guess was bad gas. Then, maybe the coils, perhaps a misfire. But this didn't fit the pattern of anything honestly. I've never even gotten a check engine light. But this car is going to my newly licensed daughter. I can't have it stalling on her if she is making a u-turn on a busy road. That's not safe. I'm gonna replace both intake and exhaust ASAP. Wish I knew which one but I don't mind replacing both. Do you have a strong opinion on using only Genuine sensors in situations like this? not even the top OEMS like Febi or Valeo or similar?

Could be the idle control valve is sticking. You can remove and clean it with brake cleaner or similar. Probably the problem is there the whole time but in the mornings your car is running on the cold start map so more fuel less air and it masks the issue. Normally the symptoms of cam sensor are just poor torque.

Fix your tail light

Could be working still... sometimes aftermarket bulbs have too high resistance and will set the light in the dash, even though the bulb is lighting just fine... Not saying this is the case for this guy (although it could be) , but figured I'd throw it out there.

so i have a 2000 323ci and i was driving it the other day and i pressed the gas and it just wouldn't go so i turned off the car and try to turn it back on and it won't turn on this is the second time it happened but the first time it started back on. I asked around they said it might be the fuel pump so i checked the fuses with a meter it was reading 11volts so i just went ahead and replace the fuel pump.But sadly it still doesn't start . Do you think its the camshaft position sensor or how can i diagnose it . CAN YOU PLZ HELP!!!!!!

A M52 engine will still start even without a cam sensor.

my car started like that also it would randomly turn off i would give it a little while and it would run again. Now tho it will not get far and turn off and it will literary take hours before it starts again and it will turn of every 5 minutes i got it come at 5 mph :(
@moonkef

Adrian Xzyx could be fuel pressure related, nothing to do with the cam sensor. older bmw's had a non return valve in the fuel line that would fail and lose all fuel pressure so every time would be like trying to start after running out of fuel.

crankshaft position sensor

For the non starting sure but isnt he talking about a lack of power also? For sure crank sensor just for the non start is a good bet.

I fixed the camshaft sensor then got a code for the crankshaft sensor 🧐 is this normal? Do you need to get BMW to reset the computer after doing these installs?
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 3 года назад
You can reset it yourself bro you need an obd-ii scan tool like the creator c310 check my videos for “best bmw scan tool”

I have a 316 compact and the engine has cut out twice now it does restart immediately. A code reader says it is the camshaft inlet sensor are they cheap to buy

U don't need to wait for the check engine light to come on to look at the fault codes with a Peake Research Tool or with a laptop and PA soft. The latter is dirt cheap. That fault code reader is the cheapest thing you could have bought, hence you having problems diagnosing it until when you shot this. You should also tell us what model year your car is from, and what model it is. Which E39? And put some of that in the title.

hi. did the code cam back after changing the sensor. i have an oem/vdo sensor i bought and the code keeps returning at random. also gives hard start when the code activates. when the car starts quick it doesnt show any codes
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 7 лет назад
Richard if the code is still coming back, it is possible the sensor you installed is defective. I've seen it plenty of times with various sensors, as most are made in Eastern Europe, Mexico or China these days. I would recommend returning the sensor and exchange for a new one. That seems like the most likely scenario to me.

There are two crankshaft sensors on the 2003 BMW 525I. There is one on the top of the engine and the second crankshaft sensor is on the lower left side (passenger side) of the engine. You have to replace both so the stalling of the engine will stop completely. Good Luck!

Would this be the same part for 1997 BMW 318i? Also, this will be the first part I've ordered myself (1st car). Where is a good place to get a quality part for a decent price?
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 6 лет назад
Your 318i has cam sensors yes but probably a different part number for your car. You can check Amazon, eBay, FCP Euro, Bavarian Autosport - shop around for the best price. Check realoem.com to find part numbers.
@nateclarizio4071
@nateclarizio4071 6 лет назад
Thanks! I did some price checking, and there is everything from $21 to $145. Does it matter if it is a genuine part made by BMW, or is $21 from China even safe? Is quality something to look out for? Sorry for all the questions, this is my first try at fixing something on my car.

Hey, great video... I am getting P0339 code with stalling. Do you know if that is intake or exhaust sensor?
@BIMMERZEITT
@BIMMERZEITT 7 лет назад
Thanks Kyle; P0339 should be the crankshaft position sensor fault, not the camshaft position sensors. The crankshaft position sensor is lower down on the motor by the block on a mounting bracket. The camshaft position sensors are up top in the cylinder head. It's easy to mix them up when reading online though because we use "CPS" abbreviation for all three!

I'm new to this, but the fix looks straight forward. Finding which part to swap out seems to be the issue. I think that RealOEM.com is calling it a "Pulse Generator, Crankshaft" for my 2002 e46 M54. I got to do a little more research before I start ordering parts.
