bro you’re a god definitely liking and subscribing. just got my 2016 550i couple of days ago and the check light is already on. i called the dealer they said to take it to a shop to get the codes ran and send them over. now i don’t have to go to a shop lol but i still set an appointment up for a full service check.
What if you have the EML on but no codes showing?! What can it be? Reseted it and no longer showing now, but interested in what caused it to appear since there were no codes in the list.
This is great information, thanks. I purchased a 2016 F10 535d in February and the check engine light just came on last week. Then went away after a couple days, now it's back this morning. I checked to see if there were any codes with this code check and no codes appeared.
@@JeffHowell Gotcha! Years back I had a convertible Jaguar XK8 that I only used in the Spring and Summer. During the Fall and Winter I would take the battery out. When Spring time came around, I'd hook everything up and use this as my weekend car. Well, one season I just so happened to get it back on the road around the time my inspection was due. I took it over to my mechanic and he failed me! Not sure if it is unique to that car or across all OBD2 vehicles, but for the first 100 miles or so there is an internal code that is set - P1001. P1001 basically means "I have no idea how well I'm performing, I've had no juice for the last X amount of the months, come back to me when I cover 100 miles". So basically, I'd have to drive 100 or so miles then return. Once I covered 100 miles, P1001 would flip to P1000 which meant the computer was able to attest to the fact that all emission systems were functional and that I was able to pass inspection. Amazing how well new cars work, yet how complicated it all became!
@@JaysDMC for real. My car previous to the BMW was a 2014 VW Passat SEL that I gave to my son. Every so often the EPC light would come on. All I had to do was pull over, turn off the car to reboot and it would be fine again.
@@JeffHowell My very first car was a 1980 Z28 Camaro. All you needed was a basic tool kit to work on them. A small socket set, some screw drivers, a timing gun... maybe a vacuum gauge if you were fancy! Those days are LONG gone!
Mine is 2012 BMW F30 328i. I changed the brake fluid at home. After that I feet the soft brake pedal. However, the oil level looks fine. So, I reset the brake fluid light. However, after resetting the brake fluid light, the engine light is turned on. Then the brake becomes hard and the engine wouldn't turn on. What is the issue with this? Thanks for the advice.
Thanks mate. My engine management light is on and I’m getting a low battery message. Also my diesel gauge isn’t working. When I checked the error codes there aren’t any. Do you think it could be the battery causing the issue? Thanks
That's where I would start. I went through something similar with this car. Battery was on it's last leg. Top tip - if you don't already know, you can't just replace the battery on these cars. There is a computer that manages the battery. That needs to be flashed to let it know a new battery is installed. That computer regulates how the battery is charged. If it isn't updated, it'll charge your new battery as if an older weak one is installed. You'll just introduce new issues at that point. Hope this helps. Good luck
I would connect your car to a scanner then. That's very odd that you're not seeing code. Are you sure you're pulling the correct menu up? If you have a CEL, you should see a related code.
I have the same check engine light and reached to the error code option but no error codes. If i reset the software, all the software updates will be gone too?
I got f20 from 2014 and since a while having this check engine light on, the joke is I brought the car to bmw dealership they said the system needs to be updated and there is nothing wrong with the engine.. 2 days later it came back on.. Bmw says the car computer system needs to be replaced and charging me 1700 euro for it...finally I got error code eraser for 20 euro and cleared it but it comes back again after some kms what a fucking thing
On my 2014 F10 this is showing the DTC error codes however when doing software reset it doesn’t turn off the check engine light. I tried restarting engine and still displays light…Any tips?
My guess is you have a persistant issue somewhere then. This procedure will zero out the historic codes that keep your CEL on. If you have an ongoing issue though, that code will not be cleared until the problem is solved.
@@JaysDMC i figured it out a longggg time ago but it’s called “limp mode” and it was because i needed a new spark plug and my battery needed a recharge.
@@jshifty9618 During covid lockdown I was barely using my car. One day I took it out and everything was fine until I got back into my car. Every single light came on the dashboard. Transmission failure, suspension failure, engine failure, electric steering assist failure, etc... Turns out, my battery was shot. I was able to start the car fine but it didn't have what the car needed to keep all of the systems up to where they need to be.
On my 2014 F10 this shows DTC error codes but when I do software reset it doesn’t turn off check engine light…even after restarting engine. Is there a wait time or certain number of miles before it turns off check engine light??
Thank you for the video. The problem on all these is that the code requires cannot be set because on my car VIN its finishing with 48 and there in board it turns to 1 after 45 😮 So how otherwise I could find the error actually
@@JaysDMC I missed the moment when you said to multiply them, it's coming 19 to me. But still when I have get in to the menu after putting the code I couldn't find "errors", its all others but not errors. Thank you
@@florinstoica5357 No, not multiply. Get the SUM. Add them up. So, for example, if your last 5 digits are 1 2 3 4 5, add them: 1+2+3+4+5=15 In this example, 15 would be the 2 digit code you're looking for.
So take the last 5 numbers in your vin. Lets say they're 1 2 3 4 5. Add 1 2 3 4 and 5 together which in this case is 15. 15 would be the 2 digit code. Make sense?

Hopfully someone sees this. My cel came on today on my way home. Followed this video and was able to make it to the screen shown. However, no codes present on there for me. Any and all help is appreciated!
