My first join and reply after all these years! You asked, “Should I keep posting videos like these?” Yes please. Great fun! I’ve been researching BMW, as a replacement for my Road King Special and your videos have been extremely helpful. Then it came down to gs or rt and again, your videos were very helpful. Did contemplate the Multistrada but quickly dismissed. Well I pick up the gs on Friday. Having some engine guards, risers and highway pegs put on before then by the dealer. Thanks for your informative videos and keep on rolling the tape!

I nearly bought a GSA back in 2015, but once I took a Tiger Explorer out for a test ride I was sold, the engine is just a peach. Ok, there’s no electronic suspension on it, or fancy LED headlight, but I love it. It’s just had a big service, with the throttle bodies balanced, etc and it rides like new, if not better after a new clutch slave cylinder was fitted after the original one failed with a bad seal. It’s got a heated seat and grips which were part of a promotional deal at the time, along with the panniers. I’ll never get rid of it and if it needs any major work, I’ll just stump up the £’s and get it fixed as it doesn’t really owe me anything now as I paid cash for it back in 2015. Got a trip planned to Finland this summer to visit friends out there. Keep the vids coming Andy. Xx

Just went to pick up my 1150GS from the workshop (fresh tyres and brake pads, oil change, that whole thing with getting her ready for spring), and ran into a fellow coming in with his R100 from 1983. First and only owner, and he'd put a fair bit over 300 000 km on it. Wonderfull bikes all around!

Reading your review of the R1250RS swayed me and bought one last September. The boxer engine does grow on you and I find I am enjoying it more and more. The R1250 RS has been great and the only issue has been an intermittently playing up steering lock.

Great blog as usual. I am a Brit living in So Ca. (Better weather here!) and ride a 2015 R1200GSA. Best bike I’ve ever owned, I have around 33K miles on it, and have many aftermarket additions, including many you’ve recommended. I’ve riden the newer 1250GSA, but I agree with you that I don’t notice enough of a difference to make me want to trade up. Previous bikes were all Kawasakis, from ZX11, thru ZX12s and Concours 14, but the Beemer is by far the best, not the fastest, but the most comfortable and the easiest to ride. I’m not a flier, but I am a sailor, and a sports car driver so I appreciate your multi-transport perspective. Keep it up.

My GS is almost identical to yours except it has ABS Pro and keyless. I was quite envious of the TFT when it was first released but that has worn off. Still love my GS after 7 years!! Can't really see a reason to outlay that sort of money for a bike that feels so similar. Radar cruise control may sway me though!

They are a great bike - I owned 2. However, I now have the latest model KTM 1290 Super Adv - it is effectively a GS with better handling, brakes and a turbo. Much better bike....and, yes, I rode the GS1250...
@Hemlck
@Hemlck 2 года назад
The KTM is a beast…but….it’s no GS beater. I put 3000 touring miles on the KTM and then swapped back to a new 1250 GS and did another 5000 miles. The GS is comfier, and handles luggage way better than the KTM, and doesn’t have the faults of the KTM ( the worst being that the seat wouldn’t go in its highest position without falling back down!) oh and the shaft drive a a million aftermarket parts….👍
@troppo4872
@troppo4872 2 года назад
@@Hemlck it depends what you want....if pure touring is your bag, I agree, the GS is better....but 6th is still a bit low for motorway droning.
@Hemlck

@@troppo4872 I rarely use motorways…but tbh I found that the KTM was good here..I actually used the cruise control as the radar thing made it very useful …as someone who doesn’t really think cruise control is needed the KTM system made it useful…it’s a good feature👍

Thanks for the invitation to your ride in the country Andy. Not riding myself anymore I thoroughly enjoy the chance to have a virtual ride!! 3 things came to my notice during this ride, 1) The screen extension is, I'm sure, ideal for you but not great for video. It frequently blocks out your vanishing point which I find a little disconcerting! 2) How can you wear sunglasses and a tinted visor, you must have very sensitive eyes! 3) With Carole's 125 arriving in the garage will you have to rename it the personcave? Brilliant stuff Andy. looking forward to the scran now!

Top of your retro test to do list should be the awesome Honda CB 250N Superdream !! My first bike, bought new on HP in 1981, it was wheeled out from Lloyds of Whitehaven and off I wobbled, no training and never previously ridden a motorcycle, predictability writing it off a few months later. Then the new 2 part test came in with compulsory training, passed those and bought a new Kawasaki GPz 550, another classic contender for you. Great channel TMF 👍🏻

I also love the flying vids, they are so chilled and show a hobby that most of us will never experience, can't understand why they don't do so well! As to suggestions for future reviews, perhaps you could review all 3 generations of the loverly FJR1300 and compare them to each other. I own a gen3 but often wonder if the gen 2 and gen 1 models would have given me the same capability but for less money. Could do a back to back series looking at the GS, RT and Triumph Bonnivilles for example. Anyway great work as always, cheers!

Super video on the GS .. Really easy viewing. I feel the same owning a later air cooled triple black … I’ve ridden your version and the more recent GS1250. And while there is a gap in what you get / performance & style. It’s still not wide enough for me to trade up. Absolutely love my GS. Got a Honda CRF300L & BSA B44 1970 sharing the garage … Suggestion for another video - Always super impressed with your video & sound quality. This GS video is a great example. Why don’t you take time out to show us how you do it ?? Would be very interesting for a lot of budding video makers who aspire to do something nearly as good as the TMF. Just a thought .. Keep up the great work .. Gary

Hey Flyer, love these types of videos, probably some of the best ones. They put us ‘on the ride’ with you. Being able to listen to the bike, the surroundings and a chat with a friend, so to speak. Richy Vida’s older videos of no schedule ride outs on the VFR were the reason I subscribed to his channel and later found yours and Lamb Chop. Keep’em coming.

Thanks for this and I couldn’t agree more. My ‘17 GS (with 30k miles as I speak) is the last bike I’d sell. Over here there are more dirt/gravel roads and it’s nice to not fear the “pavement ends” signs when on tour. Thanks again.

I’m watching this at 2 in the morning cos I can’t sleep. I know I shouldn’t. What a lovely relaxing and unexpected ride just the job. I haven’t ridden my bike this year yet, sun comes out then next minute pouring rain! I’m of that age where I’m finding it more difficult not during the ride but after the ride aching for a couple of days. Well I’ve been riding since 1974. Only recently started touring though. When I started the only bike gear I had was helmet and gloves. Freezing cold ans soaking wet going to work anyway thanks TMF really enjoyed Pete

Another really enjoyable vid. Treated myself to a Thruxton & been riding it a lot - new bike syndrome, but went to the Cat & Fiddle on Sunday on my GS & it reminded me what a fantastic bike it is. Agree that if I only had one bike, it would be the GS. Thruxton is fun, but GS is a keeper. Might treat it/me to a heated seat too. Stay safe 👍

Yep guilty as charged! Such was your enthusiasm and consistent love for the GS I put my cash into a 2015 with 7800 miles. Red too. So far am absolutely loving it. Does so many things so well and that motor does have some poke. We have to get over having the newest thing around. To put it in perspective I got an immaculate GS TE for 9300 cheaper than a new Triumph 850 Sport which needed even the basics like a centre stand and heated grips fitting let alone luggage. Has 2 years warranty too, so for value for money a good used GS is a brilliant bike.

Hi Mr Flyer. Really good video as usual. While Im not a big fan of GS BMWs I do appreciate lots of people are. Today however, I did laugh out loud when the first bike you mention that other viewers have encouraged you to ride was a Fazer1000, as that's exactly what I was thinking at the time. In fact, I have my own 2004 Fazer1000 that I would be happy for you to have a ride on if you need one to test. Owned from new and several modifications, most usefully the suspension at both ends. Ive test ridden quite a few other bikes but nothing seemed that much better so Im keeping it. Cheers!
