Thanks mate. It's standard the DCT software. I don't have the GTS software in this video. But have since installed it which is even smoother and faster! Always read online on how it "transforms" the DCT and I can finally vouch myself that it really does make a difference!

Media6D was this setup too raspy by any chance? Seems like the M performance axle back gives a bit of a hollow sound with a cat less x pipe. I have the M performance exhaust and was looking to put a MS cat less x pipe on it.

It's still one of the best sounding exhaust for it. 😉 My bias of course.

Congrats man :) Hope you enjoy it. Well I only had my DCT M3 for about a year (had the manual before) and only done 26k miles. Mine's still solid. I do use it for going into Drive/Reverse of course and Neutral but I don't use it for shifting. its either Auto or I use the paddles. No idea how much it'll cost to replace that part though :/ Depends if its the knob or the entire shift mechanism. New? Around $900. Or used for around $300-400 :) I think the part might be 61317842102

Hey thanks for watching and your support. I have heard some others have reported that 2 pipe mod + test pipes sound great! ;) BTW, I've sold the MPe exhaust already (again). Not that I don't like it. But tempted to either try out Eisenmann Race for the last time or go down the 2-pipe OEM mod with the Evolve TP lol myself.... I've done 4-pipe before and that was overkill.

Hm I don't think it will "heal" itself and stop leaking to be honest. No need to weld it too btw! Just use some exhaust / manifold gasket paste around the pipes before clamping it down. Mine wasn't super tight before, but I changed to some better quality clamps (rather than the Evolve supplied ones) and used some paste. I recently had my emission test done (annual requiredment) and they detected no leak and it passed emission (just) despite removing the cats. Goodluck with your emission test since I'm sure its different law compared to the UK.

Lol it does sound mega. I tried revving the car in the underground car park the other - and its crazy loud. Gave me a shock hahaha.

It is pretty epic. I think the whole car park can hear the car. Its so f***ng loud (when you press on hard on the throttle). But quiet when you want it to be. Love it haha :D

Thanks :) I didn't bother with the remap either. Some say it makes a difference but I can't justify the high cost for 20bhp or so. I had the full akrapovic before and i must say it did feel a bit more and a lot smoother. Noticeable. But I still didn't bother with the tune. I think its fine as it is.

I have driven it with The M performance exhaust. Different experience from M4. The M4 is like what the hell just happened im already at 60 where as the M3 you feel and hear it work I love it

promodelred i'm not so sure about the M4, something about it feels too clinical and modern about it? Lack of soul? X-factor? Noise? Not sure - just different and personally not sure if I like it. Must be getting old...

To be honest with you, the car has become more hardcore in certain areas. Definitely recommend it, only think that isn't is as good is sound

Bailey Pribyl it is mighty fast, but you probably gather from my channel - the perfect sounding car is more important to me. The E9x M3 is fast enough for me in the UK. I don't go on tracks, there's no Autobahn - really doesn't need to be any faster in my world.

I did test drive one before I settled with the E92 - just love the way it looks! Hope you have lots of fun with yours - but do be careful though - they can bite if you're not paying attention.

Weve33 Hey - no worries. Love talking to people about cars - especially the M3! I like both to be honest, manual or DCT. I use a range of cameras, sometimes my Canon 60D/70D/iPhone5S/GoPro Hero3 BE and I use Final Cut Pro X. Custom thumbnails? Photoshop ;) Thanks for your support! :)

Difficult one. I would go careful by removing a set of resonator or cat only if you want a little bit more noise. It's hard to tell if you will end up with more rasp or drone. Eg. with the 4 pipe mod on the OEM muffler, that's super raspy, but 2 pipe wrap is fine. Sorry I can't help anymore. All I can say is to do things in small steps from my experience.

gokii polat Hello there. Awesome. The OEM modded backbox is still one of the best sounding options out there and the cost saving makes it very attractive too. I honestly think the OEM mod sounds better than the Akrapovič (that's why I sold it at the end). Glad you are having fun with your setup. Luckily my neighbours don't mind, but then I'm not driving it everyday at 6am - so that's a added bonus! Enjoy the remap! Heard many good things about it.

Jamie Gavin Nope, runs fine. Obviously would get a bit more power with remap + test pipe. I recommend the O2 spacers if you're not remapping. It will help to keep the light out for a while. But eventually it still comes on, just have to delete the light with a laptop or using the carly for bmw obd adapter / phone app.

Jamie Gavin If you leave the centre xpipe cats in place, it will pass MOT just fine. I take my M to BMW to get its MOT. Passed everytime and they haven't said anything.

Hi, I don't have any tune in this particular video. But I have since updated the DCT to the GTS software. Quicker and smoother shifts. Engine wise, it's standard.

Good stuff! I know what you mean. But at least you have warranty and I know BMW will replace if there are issues. Take a look, if you have some holes on the top / bottom of the box then you are lucky. That's the newer ver which should help with the cracking issue. Alternatively wait for a bit longer, then just complain that the exhaust is making a weird noise and get them to replace it with the slightly updated version. I have read quite a few other people who have done it and BMW have replaced it with newer version.

DCT gearbox :) comes as standard. Only way for manual is try and get a performance steering with the display/leds. You get the shift lights too then. But £900 for a steering wheel?? :/

Cold start are louder of course with this type of exhaust combo. But if you're smelling it from underneath the car then its likely that's it leaking gas from either the clamped section or from the manifold. They probably haven't tighten it enough, didn't put any exhaust sealant paste around it or the gasket around the manifold where the TP goes is broken when they undid the original exhaust.

Unfortunately I can't anymore as I no longer have this particular exhaust combo anymore on the car. I'm sure you can find some on RU-vid though :) Thanks for watching.

Hi thanks for watching my video first of all. The M Performance Exhaust, ie. the REAR section is what you guys call 'slip on'. Same thing lol. The exhaust is made out of a material called Inconel (wiki it, tough stuff, good anticorrosion, heat resistant, light etc. The 4 protruding tips of the exhausts are made out of Titanium. Hence the use of both material. Does that make sense?

No my friend. You have to cut the original front catalytic converters off the x-pipe and then clamp the new test pipes in place. Its a none reversible process unless you get some one to weld the pipes back together in the future. But its probably easier to buy a second hand system if you want to go back to stock.

Either. Might as well keep the sensor in the pipe to protect them. No point of disconnecting them or leaving them hanging. You do know that you will get emission sensor errors by going decat right? Only way is to get a remap/tune or to clear the codes periodically when the dashboard comes up with an engine light. Doesn't affect the performance or anything though. So you if you decide to ignore it, its fine also.

I don't. My OEM pipe had to be cut to fit the evolve pipes. No going back now. Like I said, I don't have issue with mine. But not sure how strict they are meant to follow or how much do they know whether its' part of the car or not.

Nick Swampsurfer Hi Nick. Not a whole lot more in terms of sound from the inside at least. A bit louder, bit more rasp and roar. You will get around 20bhp extra as a bonus, but you will get engine check light on the flipside if you don't remap it or go with a sensor spacer. Depends if you want more sound, more power or more hassle to deal with?

Nick Swampsurfer Then a TP pipe might be the right thing for you then. Alternatively you could mod / change the x-pipe section. Less power gain, no errors, but more sound still. And finally, the TP will actually give you bhp increase even without a tune, but around 40-50 bhp increase if you did go for a remap as well. Thats the typical range of increase I've seen.

+brianpsx1 Akra has more bass at lower RPM (no drone mind you), but higher RPM its quieter - all you hear is the engine, not much exhaust. With this setup, lower RPM - its quieter - civilised. But at higher RPM, its much louder, you can hear the exhaust and scream + engine sounds (without drone), that's why I prefer this combo much more over the Akra.

Nope. No drone. I hate drones. So wouldn't put up with it. Weirdly compared to the Akra it's louder / raspier / nicer sounding above 3k rpm. But also quieter when you're driving sensibility. The Akra was very bass heavy at low rpm (doesn't drone) but didn't sound very nice at higher rpm. The Akra didn't sound very V8 like to me somehow. This does however. It's perfect!

Hi bud, yeah mine did leak before. So I used a different much stronger clamp from a different company and I also applied gasket/exhaust sealant paste around the type and tighten it. It's stopped the leaking now. The supplied clamp thick metal just can't clamp it down tight enough on its own.

It is very loud past 3k rpm. But below that it's very quiet. Best of both worlds.

Hello. Here's the thing, I never liked the Akra sound from all the online videos I've watched. So I thought I'd give it a shot personally to make my own proper judgment on them. After 5-6 months they never entertained me to be honest. (Obviously this is just my opinion, there are others who love them). But I didn't like the stuff I heard online and owning it personally confirmed it. Issue one, its mega bass heavy in idle and start ups. Shakes the house, sets of alarms. Fun? Hm a little. Its great at cruising, zero drone which is critical for me. Weight saving? Yeah. Power gain? Yeah too, just a bit. You feel it to be honest. Price? Ridiculous. All the previous points are ok and interesting. But I want a very specific sound and this didn't provide me with the sound I want. Why? The fast you go (higher rpm), the quieter it is and raspier it became. It does not sound a like a V8 in my opinion. Whenever you're WOT or stationary revving. It sounds like a very raspy motorbike or something. A rattling thin metallic sound (since its full titanium). Ultimately that doesn't isn't what I want. But I can see why its appealing or people being obsessed with it. Its a great all arounder, for the price. But doesn't particular stand out in any one aspect. Weight and power gain? Yeah but look at the price! No drone and drama at stationary? But boring at the top end. Conclusion, its not what I want. MPE + Evolve Test is perfect and cheaper. Not as light, but perfect sound low / top end and pretty much the same power gain. Love it :)

Lazerbeam323ci Hi ya. It will generally get louder anyway with most exhausts cause the damping material inside will break down over time. But as you mentioned, the most concerning is that its starting to crack somewhere. So try and keep an eye out for it. Is yours new from BMW? V1 or V2? The quality on these exhaust is alarming since I've seen so many cracked ones - hence! I've sold mine earlier this year (2015) - I didn't want a ticking bomb on my car. Not that it'll explode I just mean I don't want it to crack and having to fix it or become worthless so I sold it before it went bad. If you bought it new than you have the BMW warranty which they will replace with no issue with the new one. The newer one is slightly improved but too early to tell if they have solved the thin Inconel material issue.

***** Thanks bud. I'm not sure which version I have tbh. I bought it at dealer about a year and a half ago. With 2 year warranty it's not a lot of peace of mind since I'd expect even an inferior exhaust to last at least that long. The price was also 25%off msrp which leads me to think they were having trouble moving the inventory so it is likely a v1. I guess I'll have to just wait and see what happens. For now it looks like it's holding up fine despite being driven in winter as well. Thanks for the response. Enjoy your M it sounds amazing!

Lazerbeam323ci I suspect its the older version. Hopefully it won't cause you issues, I mean they are not failing 100%, but if it does happen - I do hope its within your warranty period - cause they will replace it with the new one without question.

I have removed the primary cats only. The secondary cats/resonators are in place to pass emission tests and to make sure its not too overly loud. Going full race xpipe makes it very raspy and in some case very bass heavy/drone. It does have a nice V8 bass to it. Depends what speakers/headphones you're using. In real life it sounds nice without the drone.

No remap. I'm running sensor spacers so it'll delay the CEL. Comes on about 4000 miles still unfortunately. I use the iVini app and my new wifi adapter to clear the codes when it does light up on the dash eventually. Check out the video on that too on my channel :)

did you order the cable, +remap software at the same time? Or did you purchase the test pipe only?

Damn the innuendo's are killing it lol - wow I always wanted some TS37 (SL) but they're so expensive and rare in the UK. I need to do my LCI lights too, but the M is on hibernation at the moment. More mods when it stops raining (if it will ever).

Hello! Congratulation on your new car! Are you thinking of taking the wool out only or replacing / wrapping any of the pipes? The decat pipe + OEM rear section (with or without mod) will sound very nice. Refer to my Russ Fellow xpipe + OEM section. Thats what it sounds like. You get more sound and tiny bit of smoother acceleration but not night and day. And doesn't affect fuel consumption, if anything it should be even better cause its working less hard. It doesn't put any more strain on the engine by going decat. :)

Generally don't need to change your coils unless the ECU says there's issue? Mine hasn't been changed. Not a regular service item. Not sure if just taking the wool out will make a huge difference. The internal 4 x perforated pipes will still absorb a lot of sound since its been designed to do so. Not entirely sure what it will sound like, if anything it might sound boomier but not necessarily louder. Russ Fellow and Evolve are the only 2 UK based xpipes makers. The rest are like Supersprint, Macht Schnell, Challenge, etc etc. which are all based abroad. Expensive items, expensive shipping, expensive import duty tax.

And is there any drone? I get a little in the 2-3k range

Hey congrats Cody on your Comp DCT E92!! I think the test pipe adds bit more rasp and volume to it but doesn't affect the lower RPM. I didn't find any drone, but each persons perception is different. It wasn't an issue for me compared to the Supersprint Race - that was headache drone. The other benefit (even without tune) is that with the test pipe you should get a few more bhp and it definitely felt smoother on the rev band.

Hi Aidan. Sounds great even in the inside. You can hear it with window up at higher RPM. Drive normally and it's quiet. Not obtrusive at all. No the TP doesn't drown out the engine. It really is the best combo and my favourite setup out of all of them. The MPE is louder and fruitier and has more bass, bark to the tone. IMO, the OEM mod which I have done and heard (2 or 4 pipe), just sounds thin. The MPE really does sound better. OEM is loud, but there's a difference between just shouting and an opera singer, if that makes any sense? But if you just want noise and volume, the OEM mod is the best bang for buck. Best thing if you can hear one for yourself in person or a good pair of headphone. Really does sound like that in terms of 'character' or the voice. But ear bleeding loud (from the outside). That's what I love about it, outside it sounds mental, inside quiet unless you floor. Then you can hear it inside. Despite so many exhaust on the market and I've tried a few myself including the much more expensive full titanium Akrapovic. This really is the best exhaust for the S65.

Joe, many thanks, big help. Liking my oem mod but as you say it's missing the character/voice. Do you think I'd be gaining a positive sound change going from oem mod to mpe stock cats? I heard its quieter but that video you just linked sounds heaps better than oem mod and loud!. If I wasn't happy with volume then I would add the TP's

For sheer volume, I think the OEM is similar with 2 pipe mod but if 4 pipe. It's probably even louder since it's pretty much straight through at that point. But as mentioned and as you can hear the MPe is plenty loud and it's hard to judge volume from a video but you can hear the characteristic/voice from the audio. Volume varies drastically on how the video was recorded, edited, and how YOU play it back; at what volume. But the MPe is loud and like I explained above. Most importantly it's the type of sound you can't match with the MPe, it just sounds like quality to my ears and makes the back of your hair stick up when you hear the cold starts or revving it. The OEM mod (no offence, as I've owned it myself) just sounds weak. I personally don't like the sound. As with these things, it's all down to personal preference though at the end of the day.

Akrapovic lighter weight, performance gain. Better resale value. M Performance, not much weight/power gain (near zero) but sounds better in my opinion.

No tune. I don't really want to mess with the ECU. I'm doing it for the sound and the test pipes already releases around 20 bhp on its own without remap anyway so I'm cool with that. With tune, you get another 20-30 bhp more. No clips from the outside.... yet. :) Coming soon.

Being super lucky having owned both manual and DCT. I can see both of the good and bad points. Both of them are equally good though. The DCT sounds good but hand to heart it's less satisfying that a manual shift.

I'm literally buying an 08 e92 m3 dct with 86k miles tomorrow, gonna install this or a similar setup for exhaust down the line.

+Luigi Race Very similar in terms of overall volume, and rasp level. But the M performance gives it bit of a bass to the sound whereas that other setup is just pure volume and rasp with no hint of the V8 grunt / bark which I find lacking. Its a lot of money to pay for the bit of extra bass (but with no drone - which is amazing) and not to mention the weight saving. The original box is very heavy - the M perf is a lot lighter. But pure sound, they are both loud, both raspy. But again to recap - this one has a nice V8 roar / grunt / bark / bass to it without a dreaded subaru/honda bass drone. Hence I think after ALL my previous trial & errors - is the best combo I have come across.

smithyrtd Think I answered your question in the other thread. But also, DCT is more expensive to repair if it goes bang and quite common leaks. I think I have a leaking issue with mine too unfortunately. Again, both good and bad. Really down to personal preference and need. I don't buy saying that either is better - both good and bad. No clear winner after owning both.

Second hand unit or if you have warranty, maybe BMW will replace it? :/

No tune. Using O2 sensors to delay the CEL. When it comes on - I just use carly app on my phone to delete the CEL.

Yeah. I get my MOT checked at BMW. Never had any issue. But technically it is modified. But I had no issue. Depends on the garage / person I guess? Emission report is fine though. Visual inspection is another thing. Depends how strict they are.

I’ve got a evolve x pipe on mine. Primary decat section which is the most restrictive part for power and sound. X pipe has high flow cats to keep emission in check and a pair of resonators to keep the drone and noise down somewhat to give this result. Best combo ever. Doesn’t have to be the evolve pipe. Any other similar configuration pipes from other brands will do too. Hope this helps.

No there isn't any adjustment as far as I'm aware. Could be slightly worn.

+Ricky Logan Depends on your ears, but to me - no which is very important because my supersprint race + x-pipe droned like hell and I sworn never to have another setup that remotely drones. So this is my perfect setup - hence the title. Quiet at low rpm and not too loud cold start, no drone, but screams at higher rpm with a nice bass / rasp to it and V8 note -again the supersprint didn't really sound V8-ish and the akrapovic system was loud at low rpm, but quiet at high rpm oddly. Could barely hear it and it sounded more like a motorbike - this sounds like a V8 grunt.

+Media6D Thanks for the info. I currently have test pipes and SuperSprint Race which drones like hell as you mentioned. I was thinking of switching to the MPE muffler with test pipes or stock rear muffler with a race x-pipe (no cats, 2 rear res).

Ricky Logan Hi Ricky, I've had the personal experience with the Supersprint race and it wasn't pleasant. The MPe is much better, even with test pipe and I imagine with race xpipe. But not with full on straight pipe + Mpe. Either test pipe OR xpipe is fine with the MPe and the combination is perfect. Small tip though, try and get the newer version of the Mpe (you will if you buy new) or if you buy used - the new version has new holes in the muffler box to try and stop it from cracking. Original version suffered from a lot of cracking under stress due to the thin Inconel material.

E90 M3 #86 Definitely! I don't mind a little bass but IMO a V8 at 8500rpm should be a screamer like a race car and not be a boom box.

+surewin i'm selling my challenge xpipe (with primaries welded on), no secondary, and rear resonators to a full catless setup. you should have bought my challenge so you didn't have to hack up the oem xpipe! Challenge street + tp = Challenge Race for a lot cheaper lol.

gokii polat 2 things I can say (based on my experience). 1. its super loud and raspy with that combo. My friend has this inc. the OEM 4pipe mod. There's no bass with that setup. Don't forget you won't pass MOT and likely to get pulled with that type of sound volume. Driving 30mph sounds like 300mph. Its OTT. 2. I bought one myself for a different backbox (not OEM mod) but the fit and quality is utter s*** and I wasted £300 - true story. It's basically going to the bin as they didn't want to give me a refund for various reasons and offered £40 compensation if I sent it back. I probably spend more on postage alone so I decided to bin it instead. Of course if you do get one, yours might be better built (like my friends) but the one I got was crap and it wouldn't fit. The welding is all over the place that it just would not fit into the manifold even using brute force. Personally I'd avoid it. As they say - Buy cheap, buy twice. In my case its totally true.

gokii polat It'll be louder for sure. But honestly - checking at your vids - its loud and sounds nice as it is? In my opinion. If you want more sound, yeah go for 4 mod but its a bit OTT once again? I find that the 4 mod makes it sound like a jumbled mess. I've heard 2 or 4 back to back and the 2 sounds nicer with some refinement to it. The 4 doesn't sound as nice - louder < yes. But its just a racket.

gokii polat cool - upload vids after ;) busy at the moment, got a speed sensor issue on my car that needs fixing when I have time. Ordered new part *fingers crossed* its just the sensor and not the ABS/DSC hydro unit itself. Replaced the left hand side but week later, the right hand side is giving me grief again. :/ Also I'm currently stock with my exhaust - so I don't feel like driving it without any exhaust noise :(

Not true. You can order a 6 speed manual with all production years of the E9X M3, including LCI. 6 speed manual came as standard and DCT is an option.

The only issue is that I need to find a way to get around California's strict smog tests. :D How did you clear the engine check code, btw? Also, what mic are you using? Is it taped on the bumper?

surewin Ah I see. Well no idea how you are going to pass the SMOG test? Here we have annual emission test too, but its not super strict so even without the primary cats in place, the secondary ones are enough to filter out most of the smoke. I use a sensor spacer for the lambda sensors, but eventually the lights still come on. I just use the Carly for BMW app to clear the codes. Done within a few mins so its no hassle. I use a audio technica lav mic clipped to the back of the bumper grill, cabled through the trunk (shut) into the go pro input port.

***** Thanks for the info. Our state actually requires passing readout through the OBD port, so I have to see what I need to do about that. We also need a visual inspection pass, which includes reviewing whether the cats are in place. :( That mic placement is pretty close to the exhaust. You're not scared it might melt? :D I'm using the Sony ECM-DS70P right now. I tape it to the bumper when I'm on track because I'm scared of temps getting too hot.

+iLLM3 What drone (is the answer)? I've had pretty bad drones with the Supersprint Race, this, Akrapovic and OEM mod doesn't have any drone. Hence why I labelled it as - best combo in the world. Loud when you want it to be at high RPM, quiet when cruising. Nice rasp and bass but no drone in cabin.

iLLM3 Yup - its one of the best combination. Ticks all my boxes to be honest, but its just the cracking issue that got me worried which led me to sell mine before it happened.

+Media6D Cracking issue with the M Performance Exhuast or the test pipes? Just curious as I've not heard of any cracking issues personally.

***** The M performance exhaust. It's pretty wide spread if you search on forums. I have read / heard quite a few. Of course not a 100% failure rate, but enough to be concerning to say the least.

I'm on public road, can't go flying around in high rpm, too loud with this setup and probably get pulled over.

It will smell a bit more around the back (lol) but shouldn't do at the front. You could also rev the car and listen underneath or feel it with your hands (don't touch) and see if there's air moving.

In that case, ignore the email content. Its meant for people who get the remap as well. You will need Evolves cable (vehicle VIN specific) to download your cars ECU to send to them. They will mod it and send you a new file which you will upload to your car afterwards. TP only won't require all that stuff.
