I put a BMW M52TUB28 petrol engine in my 110 roadster and love it. And I use it hard in the Sahara. Funny enough, the M52 actually is a LR engine. The South Africa plant ditched the V8 in '97 and used the M52 through 2000 as it's factory petrol engine. If I did it again I would probably do the M57 as I would like to have the 30mpg. But, there's nothing like sticking your foot in a powerful petrol engine! ;-)
Hi there from South Africa, I'm very impressed with your work. When you do the m57 conversion, do you retain the lady's gearbox and prop shaft and driveshaft.are these strong enough to handle all that extra torque? Thanku in anticipation for your reply.
Thanks Graham. I think Dave meant on his Instagram because we can track it there. I’ll make sure he explains better next time! Check out the @wearemahker Instagram for the post over the weekend
Incredible to think LR were so behind with the defender where they could have developed a vehicle like Toyotas that sold millions of vehicles around the world as work horses or overlanders with impeccable reliability. Alcanta? You mean alcantara
Awesome. We can’t track YT shares, so please head over to the @wearemahker instagram this morning. We’ll post the video there and that’s the one Dave means. We’ll get him to be clearer next time!
Dave, So I’m beginning to see the attraction of a bloody BMW engine, but it just grinds my gears that I’d be sacrificing my warrior like 300 TDi for teutonic technology with all necessary electrickery, that I’d never be able to fix up a mountain in the back water of nowhere? Plus where’s all the blood, sweat and beers videos from the Bermuda Triangle Mr. Lea? AND now what do I do with my crappy Mk1 drive flange cap, now you’ve gone and made em better ? 😮
