Outstanding review. You spent extra time focusing on important parts of a sports-touring bike, such as seating position, aerodynamics, handlebar position, foot peg position, and seat comfort. I really appreciate that. Many reviewers simply focus more on the engine/performance and suspension/handling.

Thank you kindly, I'm glad you liked it. Funny story, my friend in the video traded in his RS shortly after this video for a BMW K 1600. He wanted something bigger that his wife could ride on more comfortably. But knowing him, he'll probably sell the K 1600 in the coming months for something different. He gets bored with the same bike.

Hi , I bought the RS 2 years ago after watching your channel . I live in Manitoba , Canada so i have a long non riding season with the cold weather. I have really enjoyed the RS and totally agree with your comments thru out the video. Well done ! I did buy an MRA vario windscreen , Added Wunderlich Bar risers , 1 inch back and 1/2 inch up . Also the Wunderlich Vario foot pegs , and Grip puppies which are foam covers for the left and right handle bar grips. All the additions help out and make the bike more enjoyable to ride . I am totally hooked on the power and torgue with the shift cam assist , its fantastic. Like your friend in the video , I am thinking of selling it this spring and for the same reason's . I can ride 2 hours then start to get very stiff, , added a gel seat it did help some. I owned a 750 GS before the RS and liked the more upright position . Next bike may be one of BMW s 1000 XR , 2022 - 850 GS ,or Motto Guzzi Stelvio 2023 - 2024. Thanks for giving very good reviews on the RS , I really enjoyed it, but at 72 my body is saying time for a more relaxed seating position , Cheers Ed

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for checking it out and commenting with your insights. Also happy to hear my videos played some small role in your decision to buy an RS. I have a couple friends with s1000XR. They like them. I also test rode one and enjoyed it. Definitely more comfortable seating position than the RS for longer rides. However, I missed the amazing torque of the boxer engine. The XR shines higher in the rev range. I might trade up to the RS when it gets the 1300 boxer and then after that start looking for a more upright bike perhaps the RT or K1600. BTW how do you like the grip puppies? I’ve been thinking about doing something with the grips. I’m still rocking the stock ones. They are thin and hard, after two hours of straight riding I sometimes wish they were softer. Good luck with your next bike whatever that may be. Safe journeys!!!

I would definitely try out the Grip Puppies, they are very comfortable and do help out on longer rides . Easy to install, still feel the heated hand grips but somewhat muted. I can't keep them on 2 setting too warm. Very economical and feel great. Will add them to my next bike, whatever it may be . Thank you for the feed back . @@Texas2Tires

I have always had a fondness for the RS, but like you, shorter distance is best. I have ergo challenges to fit my 6'5" 225 lb self and the RS feels good to sit on. There is stiff competition from the japanese sport tourers, Ducati Multistrada and the S1000 BMWs, so it comes down to what fits I think. My current rides are a Goldwing DCT Tour and a K1600 GTL because of my fondness for the LD touring side with somes sports touring thrown in.

Great review. I have a 1250 GS and at 5'9 I was looking for something a bit more manageable. I found the RS a bit too sporty for my 62 year old body unfortunately though. I was a bit disappointed as I love the looks. It turns out that the perfect alternative for me is the R1250 R which is low but has the same upright rising position as the GS. I'm currently looking at one with panniers and a windscreen, so we'll see.
@Texas2Tires

Many put bar risers on the RS to make it more comfortable. Also putting a lower seat helps too, but lowering the seat too much ends up putting more angle on your legs and that's where my friend Chico said that started hurting his legs. Anyway, thanks for checking out the video and best of luck with your search for the perfect bike.
@paulyflyer8154

@Texas2Tires Yes I thought about that but as you say the RS makes your legs a little too cramped for my liking. The R1250 R seems perfect though, although it seems a bit indulgent to swap my gs so soon!

Please let Chico know I have both bikes k1600 GT and the RS. I understand his knee pain. You can purchase the higher seat for RS which is 840mm high. This is higher than the highest setting on the K16 of which is 830mm high. Both bikes are amazing. He will lose a bit through the canyons on the k16. Still awesome although 100kgs heavier. @p-dub7422
@p-dub7422 7 месяцев назад
Excellent video! I have this same bike and completely get it. I think your point about a bike designed to do two different things is a challenge. People who have sport touring bikes will appear picky and dissatisfied because it is a difficult category to fulfill. Having said that, to go full touring like the RT and the bike that your friend is going for they will find themselves looking at that bike and maybe having issues with the additional weigh, wheelbase size and looks. Do you know what kind of helmet lock your friend had on his bike and where he got it? I would like one. Bikes use to come with them. Do you have a video so that I can see your helmet locked to your bike and where you got it from. I am tired of carrying my helmet around. Also, you mentioned it but would you consider the bar risers just for the relief and comfort? Overall, I like my RT and it is a bike that you can do some distance on if you wanted to and as you stated your body type might matter. I do not do the distance riding like I use to but I want to at least be able to do over 100 miles in day if wanted to. And on this bike I can easily do that. And for me I like looking at my bike in the garage and when I get to my destination and I can do that because it looks nice. The bikes sound to me is very nice as well and I can hear when it settles down. This RS does not sound or ride like the older RS's which was nice too. Thanks
@Texas2Tires
@Texas2Tires 7 месяцев назад
Thank you kindly for visiting and watching my video. The RT is a great bike. I test rode one during BMW demo day. It was quite comfortable. The first thing I noticed is the front end is obviously much heavier than the RS so it’s not as flickable. Not sure where he got his helmet lock but there’s many on Amazon. For my helmet, I lock it onto my top case rack. I do have a video called tips for new riders and in there I show how I lock my helmet on the rack. Here’s the URL link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pNbrjaKYMBw.htmlsi=GynNt_boODEtgbp0

Tex, I am still not riding. The Concussion is getting better but for now, I am thinking about the RS To get me back in the saddle to get me back riding so I can handle my current RT for touring. One big deal for me is less weight compared to the RT. I cannot keep it from falling when I am at a stop sign. That thing is heavy. The other option is the R. Do you by chance know who made the screen? Is it a factory BMW screen, or maybe a PUIG? And yes, my RT is nearly 10,000 more
@Texas2Tires
@Texas2Tires 6 месяцев назад
Wish you a speedy recovery back to full riding. The RS is lighter than the RT for sure but has a slightly longer wheelbase making it a tad less maneuverable at low speed. My wind screen is a Puig. It is basically the same size as the stock screen. I just wanted smoke color to match the bike’s overall theme. Thanks for checking out the video and Happy New Year!

I'm about to trade in my 1250 GS for an RS with the tubular bars and sports colours. Like most I will probably fit a different screen to mine and maybe lower the pegs but the RS is so much cheaper than the new 1300GS so I don't mind spending a bit on it to get it how I want. A lot of the bits I had on my 1250 GS fits the RS too so will save my some monet. The GS is great for 2 up touring but as my wife doesn't want to ride pillion anymore I no longer need one, which is another reason to the swap to the RS.
@Texas2Tires
@Texas2Tires 7 месяцев назад
Thank you for checking out my video and glad to know that you are getting an RS. I hope you enjoy the RS as much as I do. If you are not going to ride to up, you might consider getting the sergeant pod so you can store some stuff in it or perhaps you’re going to have some panniers? I’m guessing the 2025 RS model will have the new 1300 boxer engine. I’ll considering trading up as I under stand the gearbox is much smoother than the current one, which is quite clunky. Safe journeys!!!

@@Texas2Tires Hi there, thanks for replying. The bike will come with the BMW luggage rack and I already have a small tail pack for my daily essentials. I mostly to rides out for either half or a full day so if I do decide to do any overnight stops I will buy a waterproof Dry sack to strap to the rack and pillion seat. I think riders take what they want rather than what they need when they go touring so tend to take far more than they actually need. I toured Spain for a week in the 1990's and all I took was a single sports holdall strapped to the seat so really don't need to go to the expense of buying panniers specific to the bike that will rarely get used which I can use for other things or on a different bike if/when I trade in the RS. Cheers Bazza

I’m especially interested in the engine power on this bike, so the beginning of this video where you were describing the torque was exactly what I wanted to hear about. But I’m not sure I grasped what you were saying completely. If you ride reasonably responsibly, is it a good hwy bike? Say in the 70 to 90 mph mark. Does it still pull? Thanks brother!
@Texas2Tires
@Texas2Tires 7 месяцев назад
Yes it still pulls, but once hit 100 it flattens out. It’s top speed is about 140 mph. At constant 80 mph on the hwy it’s fine there some vibration as it is a boxer which vibrates, but nothing terrible. I just got home from a ride in the Austin Hill Country (twisty backroads) with 6 buddies we kept the pace at 70-90 mph for three hours straight comfortable.

But after 250 miles or so, the riding position is uncomfortable. The GS is more upright and is more comfortable for longer overnight trips. Plus the GS carries a lot of stuff easily. I have a 2023 BMW S1000RR, 2023 BMW S1000R, and a 2023 BMW R1250RS. The R1250RS is by far my favorite. My only complaint is that footpegs are dangerously low as I have almost ripped my foot off a few times in turns. This bike is incredibly versatile from "almost supersport" to "go touring". Power is so linear compared to my S's that it isn't as exciting but gets the job done in a way that you don't realize how fast you are able to ride the bike. I give this bike a 10 out of 10. You nailed it with the barbacks and a Wunderlich seat. I'm also in TX (w of FTW) and I've ridden this bike all over TX, OK, and Arkansas. I can't imagine a more sporty bike to tour on. It's crazy because when I'm at 3 sisters area I'm not sure I would rather be on one of the S1000's. THIS BIKE DOES EVERYTHING.

@@dirttoysdotcom still fun to have different bikes for different moods. My RS has stock bars, so the position is a bit sportier and can cause my back to ache after 90-120 mins in the saddle. My friend and I were thinking of heading up into Oklahoma one day, so would be nice to stop by to say hello. I test ride a RR, totally different feel.
